  • We know that Gun Buybacks dont work. Or at least they don't work in their stated purpose of curtailing "gun crime" or "gun violence". What they do succeed incentivizing theft of firearms in exchange for a no-questions-asked score. A recent executive order from the white house inadvertently has just spelled the demise of the gun buy-back by undercutting the business model used to accomplish the destruction of firearms and components.

First, how do you buy back something you never sold?
Next, where's the Universal Background Check on the purchasing individual.
Isn’t this actually a practical example of a STRAWMAN PURCHASE, as the individual paying is not doing so for personal possession.

technically yes, but also qualified immunity lets cops break they law in order to conduct lawful business... The "buyback" may not be "lawful" if they had no qualified immunity. You could call SBI or Marshall on police buying guns for other people.

It’s weird how when it comes to having money for Ukraine, Israel, gender reassignment surgeries in Pakistan, “migrants”, school loan forgiveness, and reparations, it’s like “How about we just give you a check and YOU fill in the amount?”, but when it comes to gun “buybacks” they’re like “Best I can do: Coupon for one half off an appetizer at Applebees if you spend $100 or more, participating restaurants only. Some restrictions apply.”

I owned two gun stores outside a major, metropolitan city in the south that offered $50 per gun that you turned in. No, questions asked. So, all the repair guns, that were basically, junk, I took down to the city hall and turned them all in. And when they ran out of money, the shoe company, Nike. Donated high end shoes for guns turned in. So I wound up with over a hundred pairs of shoes, that I gave out to people in need that I knew in my church. And/or, I sold them in my store for $20, for $80-$100 shoes.
While turning them in, I saw people with BB guns, that were in pieces in a shoe box: $50. Plastic toy guns from their kids toy chest, it was ridiculous what I witnessed. Not to mention they gave me $5k worth of merchandise for stuff that I couldn’t use, and some were missing cylinders, barrels, guns you could no longer source parts for: Junk.
So, it’s all a scam, it’s just redistribution of wealth for the peons, and to make themselves “feel good”, w/ their “virtue signaling” nonsense.

The price shouldn't be the cost of labor per hour, but the delta between what the company could have made from selling the components. What's that? $250? $400? I guess it depends on the kind of firearm. But the average would have to be in that range.

  • @Username18981

These businesses are going to look at howuch they make off the parts (gross not net) and charge the government that amount. I am damn sure it won't be $100.

  • @PyroRob69

Weird how they can identify firearm parts that were destroyed from crime scenes. How if they are unserialized?
Are they suggesting there are parts other than the serialized parts that are the firearm? Now trigger groups or bolts or stocks are now considered firearms as well?
They are turning themselves inside out to try to ban inanimate objects that they have no legal authority or power to ban.
Maybe we should all get FFLs so we can start “helping” the local PD’s and feds.

People could easily just pocket the rest of the unregulated parts, then record them as "destroyed" and then later sell than at a swap meet or something. I highly doubt a police officer from a participating department is going to stand over their shoulder in a hot ass shop with no AC wearing full gear while you take your time painstakingly disassembling 250 individual guns. They are likely going to drop them off, give you a check and then ask that you provide some half ass written report "confirming" their destruction.

If they want to now absolutely ensure that parts from these "buy-backs" aren't reused, those will all need to be individually destroyed also.
Every spring. Every screw. Every pin. Every extractor, striker and backing plate will need to be rendered unusable. And you just know that along with this, there will be reams of paperwork and affidavits in triplicate to be mailed to different departments. Failure to do so will absolutely include fines and prison.
NOW how much would you charge for this task? Because if I was your GL insurer and you chose to offer this type of service, I would end our relationship immediately.
