  • So I absolutely loved the score of the original Final Fantasy VII, but what Nobuo Uematsu did with Final Fantasy VII Remake is on a whole other level of legendary. The fact that the music adapts to your in-game actions makes it feel all the more immersive and I couldn't help but put together my own version of "Let the Battles Begin!" which is comprised of parts from all the other versions that I tried to seamlessly put together into a new compilation I call "Let the Battles Begin! - Limit Break". Enjoy!
I do not own the rights to any of this music. All rights and credits go to Nobuo Uematsu and Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd.

Probably gonna ruffle some feathers here but that ironically fits FF7R pretty well. Of course, the characters and story moments are mostly fantastic and it has a fun combat system but the levels and activities are nothing to write home about and the filler can be pretty egregious at some points. While I absolutely love this game and beaten it 100%, it definitely benefits a lot from the amazing soundtrack. A great example is the bike chase in chapter 18. The spectacle and music is phenomenal but what you are actually doing is pretty bland and overly drawn out.

Most of the work on the soundtrack for this game was actually not Nobuo Uematsu's doing! I believe the only song he actually composed was Hollow. The talented composers this time are Masashi Hamauzu and Mitsuto Suzuki.
    This is a fantastic mix!

Credit to Masashi Hamauzu and Mitsuto Suzuki on the arrangements. They said in an interview they really did a lot of work bringing Nobuo's work into the modern era for the new release but also still keeping it very true to the original composition. I say they smashed it out of the park... I mean they even kept the clanking noise in from the original version! So good!

That's like saying "Most of the work on the Moonlight Sonata was done by the London Symphony Orchester and Kent Nagano, not Ludwig von Beethoven!" - Uematsu is the composer, Hamauzu and Suzuki did the arrangement. That is a very different job, but still one that requires a lot of skill and understanding of both music as a whole and the original composition.

From what I've heard, Nobuo-san only composed "Hollow" for this game and Masashi Hamautsu and Mitsuo Suzuki did the other songs. I could be wrong but we should give credit to the other two guys too.

For ask much as people joke the intro didnt know how to hold back storywise, the best part is how the MUSIC absolutely intentionally blueballs you with a slow leadup to this and saves the "traditional" rendition till a few big set-pieces in.

You mixed this excellently. I'm actually not a huge fan of the remake score, but I do really like the way you put this all together. I think the large shifts help hide parts where the instrumentation sounds flat vs the original midi, and the progressive parts all make sense together. So, good job!
