- The orphans of Annie and paperboys of Disney's Newsies teamed up for a dance-and-rap rumble to resolve who could lay claim to being the ultimate Broadway show about New York. The scrappy, energetic number earned them a runner-up nod for best presentation at the 27th Annual Easter Bonnet Competition, produced by and benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
The Easter Bonnet Competition, produced by and benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, raised a staggering $4,250,542 -- eclipsing the previous high of $3,734,129 set in 2007. The grand total was announced April 23, 2013, after six weeks of intensive fundraising by 47 Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring companies.

Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS unites theatre artists with theatre lovers to help those in need. Broadway Cares helps men, women and children across the country and across the street receive life saving medications, healthcare, nutritious meals, counseling and emergency financial assistance.
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS awards grants to more than 450 AIDS and family service organizations in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and Washington D.C. and is the largest single financial supporter of the social service programs of The Actors Fund, helping everyone in entertainment and the performing arts.
Broadway Cares hosts two six-week-long fundraising campaigns in theatres across the country every year, one leading up to the Easter Bonnet Competition in April and the other leading up to the Red Bucket Follies in December. Broadway Cares also produces annual fundraising events in New York City, including Broadway Backwards, Broadway Bares and the Broadway Flea Market & Grand Auction.

When they said "NEWSIES OF NEW YORK" and everyone came out and struck that pose, I was thinking Annie should turn around and say: YO ORPHANS, DRAG YA RAGEDY BUTTS OUT HERE WE GOTTA SHOW UP THESE FOOLS.
But they cant, because only one kid did something even close to dancing, and the was a pique turn. The others skipped out. That wont get ya anywhere

Don't get me wrong, I love Annie, but Newsies is the better musical in my opinion and they had better dancing. But I do get that Annie had a cast of 9 year olds, but I still think Newsies won....

Lydia Plante lilla was annie until June of 2013, and this was April of 2013. Sadie was a standby for annie, but replaced lilla in like July I’m pretty sure. So Lilla was technically still annie in this. And I don’t think they all had specific roles during this, I think it was more of just a cast vs cast haha

My opinion both Newsies and Annie are two great movies and Broadway shows. Who ever came up with this video did an awesome job. Now I only wish that someone creates a movie and the movie should be called Newsies meets Annie. Both movie are about orphans. Newsies are orphans of boys and Annie is a movie of orphans of girls.

The little girls are so cute! Also....the burn at 2:00 is SO TRUE!! Those male actors are 10+ years older than the ages they are supposed to depict as young street peddlers. It's annoying and distracting, which is why I love the film version best. They hired more minors than the broadway musical did.
