Hola Brien! Just linked to you from OB Michael's Ham install video and am glad I did. It sounds like you made it though Chapter 2019 of your life and are off to a great start with Chapter 2020. I'm an OB member in the SW operating along the north side of our border from the Pacific to the Gulf. You appear to have a lot of mad skills and know your way around tools. I'm working on getting a Ham license and am eager to swing by your new shop the next time I'm in the Old Pueblo. As a new subscriber please let us know when you're ready for visitors. Congrats and much success with your new venture. You obviously have the courage, strength, and perseverance it takes to get through this life in one piece.
Thank you for the subscribe and the nice comment, Hank! The shop is open for visitors whenever you are in town. I'm here all-day just about every day, primarily working on personal projects as I build the shop out a little more to take on more client work, although i've done a bit of that here already as well :D
What you said at the beginning of this video, made me feel like I was looking at myself in the mirror. :) I've been a fan of teardrop campers since I was a child and have been following the subject on RUclips for these past years. 2 years ago, I decided to retire and build my own. Despite having no skill at wood or metal work apart from highschool shop in the 70s, I gambled and began buying equipment. I intend to build my own 4'x8' trailer, and build a camper over it. I still am at that stage. Your build is quite inspiring.
Awesome, please share your build as you go! We can share ideas and horror stories, haha! I'm getting ready to start another trailer build here in the very near future, and i'll be sharing the process here as i go
Hey there I’m currently in the process of welding my overland trailer frame, I’m still stuck on what materials I should used for exterior walls do you have any suggestions?
On the Wakamper build we used 1" square steel tubing to build the skeleton and then added a 3/8" plywood exterior. The thing is super strong and we filled the frame spaces with 1" pink insulating styrofoam so it keeps toasty warm in the winter. The plywood was pre-finished cabinet grade and then we sprayed it with Raptor bed liner for added protection and waterproofing.
just start.
