His guitar playing here is actually great. It's a simple song, just E AM D and then G A E, but it's how he dresses the song up and add's his personal style that makes it great. I love how he plays heavy handed, hit's odd notes, and plays tuned down on other songs....thats his style and its great. You, im guessing, enjoy a cleaner style. Polished and waxed with all the heart and soul ripped out. For each his own.
there's a dylanesque thing on it. It's just brilliant. Time proved your point. Doherty is an absolute genius. Thank god he exists and thank you for pointing it out so perfectly. This is art at the most purest form (it's been 14 years since your comment, I hope this touch you the same, cheers)
Tbh all Doherty songs seem pretty easy to play but once you try it it's actually extremely hard. You can replicate the sound, but never the soul. There's always something missing. That's just art ig. And he's an absolute genious doing it
1 of my fav Doherty songs... Lyrically it's astonishing... His style is so interesting & individual... He's the poet of a generation (my generation) there's no great rock & roll figures left apart from Doherty... He's honest & true & lives his art... I hate wen people can't see by the drugs/media & dismiss him or discredit musically... Its there loss as music wise he's a genius... God bless Peter Doherty.
His guitar playing is quite good. He has ideas he just expresses because he is creative but not technical. Also his timings vary now and then, again just ideas but interesting details creating the mood of the song. He has rhythm and keeps a tempo. Impressive!
strangely enough, I really believe that this song is dedicated to Pete himself, as if he could meet a younger version of himself in the darkest days and give this person a hope, say that there's still something to live for
Never really thought about it from that angle before tbh..its a nice idea though. He's obviously very introspective as an artist so you're probably right.
Intersting take, but I think there's so many connections to Carl Barat here that I just can't help but think it's about him. One of the hints that the song is about Carl Barât : in Gin & Milk (a song Carl wrote with his band Dirty Pretty Things) he says he “lives in old movies”. The line You played The Man and I was cavalry is also in connection to Carl, I think. In You’re My Waterloo Peter says he’ll be Carl’s “Calvary”. Carl also describes himself as being “the man” in Bucket Shop.
i like this song; it is audible art - it is very good.. it takes a discerning and appreciative ear to enjoy it i believe it gives you that uncomfortable feeling in the lower part of your stomach not in a bad or a good way, but because it makes you feel without realizing or necessarily wanting to.
i have been listened this song for more of 2 years YES i know that the album is new but i heard it for a weird edition of babyshambles sessions it comes with the cover of dreaming of you the coral cover, just write the libertines in ares and download "dreaming of you" song and you will see
Anyone know where I can find the 8 Minuit version on this I was so amzing I remember it being my favourite song for so many years as a young teenager I my yeying to find it but can’t! Pls help
LOVE THIS GUY .. COULD SOME1 PLEEZ TELL ME WUT GENRE OF MUSIC THIS IS???????? my frends always ask me wuttype of music i listento i say british indie ,grunge, classic rock, but this would fall in with dylan and adam green music great lyrics and such...thanx for ur help
It is what it is. Its a moment of non- scripted medley and string tinkering before the serious shit hits the mic. Although I will say that as Pete matures in the future he'll have to sharpen his little soliloquies on the guitar to be taken seriously. That said, I hope he continues growing musically and puts out many years of music.

Love it. Perhaps Docherty's equivalent of Bowie's "5 Years". These acoustic layouts are by far much of his best work IMHO.

oh, im soooo in love with this song, the voice, the lyric, the singer!
That "I Wanna Be Your Dog" riffle reference in the middle...
On pipedown by the shambles he plays 'no fun' in the middle,it's a little trait of our peters
the price of being free these days..is ri-dic-u-lo-us

My kitty doesnt like u. I do. But its making this cat hyperventilate. ¿¿ what to do
It seems to be about Amy Winehouse or Peaches Geldof as Peaches died at 25 and Amy winehouse had a severe drug addiction before the age of 25
This song was out before they died
+Araf hayat
Definitely about Carl, there's a version where he replies "I never asked you to"
