Yes Cara, I totally agree with you regarding 'fake' audiences or stooges. That's one reason I RARELY watch Cris Angel. He uses so many stooges and does so much editing. In my opinion, it ruins magic. You can learn stuff by watching videos and working out the moves, You don't need to pay the super high prices they want for a sheet of instructions and a gimmick anyone can make (sometimes - I'm not talking about shells and things but a lot of the time you can make the gimmick yourself if needed). Most of the magic marketed today is not new - just a rehash of old effects. It's not "created" as many would have you believe, simply "recycled".

Really? You're telling me that Tommy, a man with 40+ years of experience under his belt, a man with NUMEROUS awards, a brilliant thinker puts an audience to sleep? CLEARLY no are SO far away from reality it's ridiculous! I would LOVE to see these so called videos that exist of Tommy "bombing". Each crowd is different. Your audience reflects your material and a worker will adjust to fit his venue and audience.
Honey, there are a LOT more things to consider instead of just the move itself. To an obvious novice such as yourself, a move is just a move but to worker's a move had meaning. It takes the right timing and understanding to know HOW and WHY that move should be executed. "I can do things that make a lot more money than the bottom rungs of magical entertainment." First of all, I'm assuming that if you know ANYTHING about magic Tommy Wonder is definetly NOT the bottom "rung" of magic.
Exactly. What some people think is 'obvious' and 'simple' in magic takes years of discipline and practice. For Tommy to get his sleight of hand this smooth likely took most of his life practicing and honing. When you learn the secrets behind magic, you should be appreciative, not "Oh, that's obvious and easy."
That's the reason I quit my magic Ring. And it's the main reason you DON'T see many women doing magic. Too many perverts making comments like that. Too many fat fucks that can't get a date so they swarm any woman who shows up at a meeting.

I don't think you need worry about people like me. Say I went on your channel & exposed some of your stuff (assuming you didn't block me) Say that exposure remained up, it would have little consequence. Even if that vid got 20,000 views, the performance vids get largely viewed by magicians, & most people haven't the background knowledge/inclination to study technical explanations. The only people it may really interest are a few magic students who could well go on to buy your material anyway.
That's the reason I quit my magic Ring. And it's the main reason you DON'T see many women doing magic. Too many perverts making comments like that. Too many fat fucks that can't get a date so they swarm any woman who shows up at a meeting.

Every one has to develop their own presentation. They will not adopt the presentation shown, But the mechanics remain similar. I am merely giving people a foothold on the methods. Of course they will have to study to find out more. Maybe by getting a public domain work such as Bobos Coin Magic. There is is no need to pay, but some people may want to pay, to find out the best. I have encouraged them to take the next steps.

I'm not going to argue on the statement that a lot of magic isn't original, and you're correct. However, that's not an excuse to go out and steal from someone. "Oh, that guy robbed a bank so I thought it was cool if I robbed a bank too." Do everyone in magic that respects it a favor and PLEASE, stop embarrassing yourself and standing on the shoulders of the giants of our art.
Well I've been doing other things the last few years, but when we first launched SOMF a few years back (which is still going in another version by the way SOMFv3) we found we could pretty much reverse engineer any effect. Most of of them were quite trivial but a few were harder. Most of what was being marketed was described as by "creators" but was simply current magicians introducing minor performance variations/patter to existing or forgotten effects and claiming it as their "own creation"
I'll also expose the first transfer. At 0:20 he only pretends to put three coins in his right. He actually retains one in his left and at 0:21 to 0:23 he has it in classic palm in his palm in left hand with the fingers extended. See how his fingers are a bit awkward sticking out? He then says the owl wants to have the money & puts it in with the classic palm coin. The transfer is already done. You can perform the whole routine just watching the vid and working it out. No need to buy the effect.
But to someone making their living off of magic and who respects the creator, they will invest the money into their act because they know they will make it back. You see no value in magic so you steal. But when you go out there and amaze people you're amazing them with someone else's idea.
It's fine to work out how magic is done and perform it yourself. Like when I hear music, I can play it on the piano after some trials and a bit of working it out. Does it mean I need to buy the sheet music? No, I used my own skill. It won't be exactly the same piece but it's my version/arrangement. Same with magic.
Tommy Wonder was good but don't worry about explanations. The only people who will really understand my explanations are people who have an interest & a grasp of basic sleights. For example people will not understand classic palm or it will take time for them to grasp Hang ping chen. The casual viewer will not want to follow detailed text. But I am bridging the gap for someone who has interest. This has been proved time & time again by the number of new people that have come into the art via me.
I agree with you. I have actually come up with moves of my own by playing around with coins, cards, etc. only to later see the move in a book or on a video. Then "magicians" give me shit because I didn't credit the move to a predecessor. If I came up with a move apart from someone else then I don't need to credit anyone. P.S. That easton magic guy sure likes to brag. I hope he doesn't hurt his arm patting himself on the back.
@@eugenelayton5231 A lot of crediting creators is azz licking and a lot of "creation" is not creating at all. They come up with something based on a principle in an old magic text. In fact it is explained in the old reference which is public domain. It wasn't their right to market it as their own in the first place!
@@CaraBrimleyRules you have a good understanding on how so called "creators" rip off generation after generation of newer performers just recycling existing effects and charging huge prices. they claim it is their work but they just rehash public domain work. it's very deceitful.
So why not make a general statement saying "This move is published" but make them do their own homework. When I was growing up nobody told me where to find anything. The point is that the student should be able to find out themselves which direction to go. And how exactly do you pre-qualify and/or track the numbers of new people you've had such a profound influence over? Do you maintain a list of people to make sure they still are in magic? Most people satisfy their craving and get out.
Tommy is not bad generally. He has an engaging manner at 1:48 to 1:52 he drops a coin on the table. This appears to come from his right but he actually drops it from his left. Because the hands are so close together you can't tell. He then picks it up with his right - the transfer is now already made thought he lies and says "nothing happens yet" The whole routine is similar to this so I didn't find it too magical. But I thought Tommy's presentation was quite skillful.
@Cara, do you know the "black guy" does have a name. I'm guessing that you just call him "the black guy" since you don't know his name nor know nothing about Louis' audiences. Are they mostly the same audiences? Yes. Are they stooges? No! In fact, they put John in front because he's the PERFECT example of true astonishment. He LOVES to be fooled and allows himself to escape into the realm of mystery. This audience just loves magic...nothing more.
You haven't the SLIGHTEST idea what you're talking about. I don't rely on RUclips to sell my services or products. I could care less how many subs you have. In fact, most of my time I'm actually on there working! I have been performing full-time for over 20 years and not to be cocky, doubt, VERY seriously you make more than I do. I have made a VERY good living and most of the ones who are making money aren't necessarily the ones you hear about.
Cara, if you are a "magician" then why do you feel the need to go on a public forum and try and expose one of the greatest contributors of magic? Tommy's ideas and timing are exceptional materials! I'm not sure what level you're at and if you perform as a hobby or part-time profession (I'm assuming not) but I am extremely embarrassed to be included in the same art form you claim to be associated with. Also, video will NEVER accomplish what it's like to be watching Tommy LIVE!
Congratulations, you're now a magician then. Figuring out things, makes you feel really good putting down others doesn't it? Why you got to be so trivial? Don't buy it if you don't want to then...
" I'm simply helping young magicians who read these pages understand a bit more about the effect" How? By teaching them that exposure is a good thing? What exactly do you find appropriate about teaching people OTHER people's effects and moves through a public forum? You might know technically how a move works but there's no way you can tap into the reason WHY the move(s) work and WHY the creator thought that move would work best.
Yes I have done paid shows. Not semi-pro though. I can do things that make a lot more money than the bottom rungs of magical entertainment. Exposure is irrelevant. Almost the only people who look at these vids are magicians and magic students. See the "about magic" view on exposure - and the large numbers they talk of which makes it a non issue. I'm simply helping young magicians who read these pages understand a bit more about the effect. I've helped loads of people into magic this way!
You can try and justify it anyway you want to but the plain and simple truth is that you're taking these artists hard work and giving it away for free. What gives you the right to do that? It's absolutely no different from stealing a piece of art from a gallery. It's NOT your routine to give away. I'll give you an example - I put out a DVD last year. It sold a decent amount. That money went to feed my child who has special needs and provides for my family. Do you see where I'm getting at?
You are, in NO way, shape or form helping ANYONE out in magic by exposing it. All you're doing is teaching these young kids that it's okay to trade videos and exchange secrets that do not belong to them. Color it anyway you wish but that's the truth.
They are primed up to scream and shout "no way" and generally make a huge riot of applause. Of course L and L want to sell the instructions for these effects so they want to make them look good. I've seen vids of Tommy perform similar stuff for "difficult" audiences and believe me he bombed out. Nobody could care less even though it was reasonable magic. This audience is stooged up to market the effect. No real audience behaves like this - the L&L audience is a standard joke among magicians!
I do like Magic and I perform myself. But I don't like fake audiences. They are primed to suck up on the plot here. Eg at 1:42 he performs a clumsy transfer and the black guy picks up on it as intended while at 1:48 he performs the hang ping chen doing the actual transfer by dropping coin from one hand to transfer while pretending to drop from other. This is all soooo obvious. If I was the black guy I'd be screaming Hang ping chen when he did it. It's only natural if you can see it you shout!

Also, video will NEVER accomplish what it's like to be watching Tommy LIVE!
pedazo de susto que se mete el negro:)
why is that black dude in every single magicians stand up close up routine lol?
bein a spectator lol
I know right haha. Maybe because he is fooled so easily and has awesome reaction
AW SHIT!
Congratulations, you're now a magician then. Figuring out things, makes you feel really good putting down others doesn't it? Why you got to be so trivial? Don't buy it if you don't want to then...
I'm guessing these aren't genuine reactions either huh?
" I'm simply helping young magicians who read these pages understand a bit more about the effect"
How?
Ya sure blah blah blah, I know nothing about magic and I highly doubt the 250 000 views on here are all magicians 👎👎👎
they weren't.
When America was GREAT . but this isn't what those MAGA people want....
XD :P
Aww shit
They are primed up to scream and shout "no way" and generally make a huge riot of applause. Of course L and L want to sell the instructions for these effects so they want to make them look good. I've seen vids of Tommy perform similar stuff for "difficult" audiences and believe me he bombed out. Nobody could care less even though it was reasonable magic. This audience is stooged up to market the effect. No real audience behaves like this - the L&L audience is a standard joke among magicians!
Is it me, or does slim sitting at the table look like Jay-Z's daddy???
This crowd is dreadful. They rehearse the wows and no way all day before they do the final taping. So artificial.
