Polled Herefords are among some of the bestest cattle on the planet. A special space where they dwell amidst the sandhills ranch country is at the Snowshoe Cattle Company, and have a number of beautiful polled Herefords.. They have a website site so maybe you could give them a shout out. They are good people. I met them through the Bull Bash in my home space of Valentine, Nebraska.
When you first released the calves and the horse ran after them, she looked exactly like "The Black" from the film, The Black Stallion. Beautiful horse. Wonderful for the calves. Are they heifers, or are they destined for freezer camp? Your property is beautiful and your vision is wonderful. I love watching as you build it!

The cows and midnight got out of the fence yesterday and it definitely would have been helpful to have a cattle dog to help. I think we will need to add a couple to the ranch for certain!
It would have been better if you had unloaded them in a small paddock near the water and the barn. Feed works wonders. They will need some feed to supplement the grass. It doesn’t look like they have been weened long. Feed would also help you get closer to them. I’ve raised cattle all my life. Don’t forget to give them mineral.
That definitely would have been ideal but unfortunately with our ranch being so new we didn’t have a smaller paddock set up yet. We will definitely do that in the future! Thanks for the input!
Very true…we are still getting her trained for having a rider on her back though , since she hasn’t had anyone really ride her in two years. I’m too old to get bucked off!
It can only be a farm because you only appropriate the word homestead. You never established a homestead that first happened many decades ago when the original settlers stole from the Native Americans. How sad that you continue the racism.
As I understand you want to destroy a natural spring just so you can have a tepid pond. You carved a road across what was once a grassy landscape. You build a cabin with glass expanses where bird strikes will occur. You build a cabin which has destroyed what was once a scenic hilltop vista. How many trees were destroyed for your selfish place? A powerline was added that mars the landscape. Why not add some wind turbines. Or maybe add a coal mine so you have a source of power? The saddest reality is that you are proud of the done or pending destruction. How Sad. You do not have a green homestead.

If you start working the cattle, behavior will change over time. It's not just a "wishing" exercise
Most Ranches have a working ranch dog to help move cattle, where you want them.

Give the horse some mineral treats and put cribbing oil on your fence posts.
