Why would you go anywhere near the pipe with bare arms, and without a face shield or at least glasses?? I dont understand why you would take that risk?. You really should go to the eye doctor to make sure theres no damage. By the way kneeling on hard surfaces every day can damage your knees. I remember a few years ago considering one of those shoe boxes. The reason I considered it was because I couldn't find another place (rental crisis). The shoe box (actually more like 3/4 of a shoe box as the room was more a triangle *single bed in the corner , small tv and that's about it*). Of course it was well overpriced as well. I would have had to put everything in storage and downgraded my bed. Thankfully I didn't.

With the amount of acid he was dealing with, a box of bicarb would be needed. I would have dumped half a box of the stuff down the drain to save the pipes and the equipment. Running water isn't enough to get rid of all of that concentrated acid.

    • @Jcreek201

Whoever used that acid, surely didn't know what they were doing & you, Ollie, bore the results of that mistake. Fortunately you had the good Lord looking out for you. God bless you & your family & be careful out there.

What a view! Thanks Ollie. Rough go with the acid!
In the states, these kinds of incredibly harsh ‘drain cleaning’ acids are produced in limited quantities and available only to the plumbing trades, and even then, they hardly ever work the way people expect.
Nearly every clog can be physically defeated with appropriate tools used experienced plumbers.
Edit: Think about getting the Ridgid K9-12 FlexShaft for those small diameter drains

Here in the states we can use lye (sodium hydroxide) as a drain cleaner. It's basic instead of acidic. It tends to work pretty well unless the blockage is real bad (or something it can't dissolve). I've used it a number of times to clear drain blockages in my house, including once for a main line clog (poured it directly down the main stack vent on the roof).

Problem is it does sometimes but also damages older piping.

I thought Olli had changed careers and became a real estate agent 😃
The acid destroyed your pants and almost cost you your eyesight but the blockage didn't do it, that's why you need the best drain cleaner in Sydney 🤩

Yeah I know the feeling, I work for cars in corrosion so I deal with muriatic acid all the time. That things a little. But you get used to it.. however I had a new experience about 2 months ago, I was redoing all of the sewer lines in the basement of a house and all the lines were above my head.. PVC cement and primer, mixed together, when I was pressing a 4 inch T-fitting together, a nice big blob of it drip into my eyeball. I just had to deal with it and hold the fitting together until it cured. So the fitting didn't push itself apart, and then I have to redo it all, over the years I've gotten a lot of things in my I probably the worst one was when I was welding hot BB fuzzed itself to my eyeball. That was an emergency room visit. Chunk of metal scraped off my cornea, fun stuff, but the PVC cement glue. I'm used to swimming in freshwater not saltwater, so if I had to compare what my eyeball was exposed to I would say salt water and pepper spray.

Had something like that when we moved into our new home. The previous owner redid the grout and rather than scoop up the excess and dump it in the bin they just pushed it into all 6 of the floor drains. Also ended up sealing the twist off grates with grout.
