The tiny size of a nickel watch is dead, please let that go. 43 - 47 mm for taller bigger men. The watch can still be high quality and stylish just not a mini watch. I think that's as bad as these tight ass pants and jeans

I knew most of them but fun to have you go over them. Your pet peeve is right on I'm 72 have a nice collection. Love picking out the right piece when on leave the house. The thought of not wearing a watch would be like leaving without my pants.
Great watch style suggestions, Jeff. I own 16 watches, from Rolex to Seiko. I collected these watches over the years. However, if someone asks me what is the best first watch, I suggest a diver. It is great in sports and casual dress. In a pinch, you can wear it with a suit. Seiko's skx007 is typically about $200 and is a great first watch. Even members of the watch community that own high-end pieces, still respect the 007. There you have it. My suggestion for the guy that can only afford one watch. Keep the great content coming.
Savvy Life Strategies. I think other than a diver a good GADA (Go Anywhere Do Anything) would be better. What kind of watch? Its all subjective. I think a Explorer 214270 fits the bill or a Aqua Terra. Or if you want a quality piece without breaking the bank a Tag Heuer Carrera Day Date. But those are expensive. A Nice Hamilton, Seiko, or Oris can be had for the price for one of the Explorer or Aqua Terra. I personally switched over to a small colection of higher end pieces. Rolex, Omega, IWC, and just picked up a Heuer Auctiva with the Heuer 02 in house movement. ( Fantastic Piece). I try to keep all my purchases in the $2500 to $5000 range. These watches retain their value well, and on the Grey market or pre-owned you get the biggest bang for your buck.
@@chelious1973 Sounds like you have a great watch collection and acquisition strategy. I personally don't sell or trade up. If I tire of a watch, I give it to my grandson.
Savvy Life Strategies. TY. I really don’t trade up or down anymore. I really didn’t wear but a few pieces, just kept the ones i wore the most. Traded all the others i didn’t wear for a 2017 explorer and the Auctiva. I just have four pieces now, with room for just two more in my six slot watch box. That way my wife doesn’t give me grief and keeping each piece at or below $5000 is easier on the wallet. Keeping a higher end smaller collection at the $5000 or below price point allows you to trade in a piece for a newer model if inclined. As each piece was bought grey market or pre-owned financially i am losing practically nothing or very little. Only way i am trading anything ever again is if i like the newer models better than the one i currently own of the same model. Maybe when i have grandchildren i will probably do the same. 👍
#10 is probably the best watch advice I have heard, very appropriate for this day, age, and younger generation. Even if you're the most stylish, sharp-dressed man in the room, taking your phone out everytime will just negate every piece of advice on how you will improve the way you carry yourself.
Good video OG. I started wearing a watch a few years ago after watching a video my AlphaM. He enumerated items that all mean should wear. To keep it all the way real I usually buy a very inexpensive watch from Walmart- I like a simple clean time piece that is very clear and easy to see the time. Stainless steel coated or something with a wrist band that coordinates with my outfit. I really don't know much about wrist watches in order to buy an expensive one. Back in the day (mid 90$) we all wore Fossil watches so when I decided to rock a watch I went on OfferUp and found a black Fossil watch. It was my first wrist watch.
Dropping in to say two things 1)I enjoy your videos and hope you keep doing your thing. I've noticed that men have been falling down that "too casual/sloppy road" and this is much needed and appreciated. 2) this isn't a mistake, but more of an alternate to the "one watch and more than one" necessity. I own a silver Fossil Explorist and have purchased multiple quick release watch bands. Also, I have downloaded numerous watch faces for different occasions and times of day. Leather bands and a more simpler face for more formal or metal/nylon/silicone bands with a sporty face for other times. Like I said, keep doing your thing, God bless and hope to see more content.
Jeff, I try to watch your videos every day. You have the most levelheaded and common sense suggestions in each episode. Thanks for all your insight and hard work.
The most interesting part of your video here, are the timepieces! I have a watch for most occasions. And my wife understands me! Cannot be late for a date, now! 🙏🏽
Good video I've been wearing gentleman style watches since middle school. I've always one watch fits all, now I realize I need to step up my watch game. I'll definitely invest in a sport watch and a leather strap watch.
Another great one G! I've made several of the same mistakes over the years. I've always firmly believed though, a true gentleman always wears a watch. Correction..a timepiece! Salute!!
Wow OG another GREAT video! I’ve been a fan of your videos for a long time now, learned so much from them and for that I thank you. You’ve also inspired me to start my own RUclips channel covering men’s style and fashion. I hope to gain the following you have and inspire someone as you have done for me.
i've done some playing around with a bunch of outfits and watch combos, everything from dressed up to dressed down. if you don't have the budget for 5+ watches for every occasion, you can go with just a dress watch and a dive watch. they'll definitely cover the most ground for you, especially if you get a bunch of straps (metal, leather, nato, silicone, etc) to customize the look up and down as needed. a dive watch can go from a super casual streetwear look with the right strap all the way up to certain business casual looks, while the dress watch can go from formal all the way down to a general casual look, again with the right band. side note, if you plan on doing weight in the gym, get a g-shock or something similar, or don't wear a watch to the gym at all. i've had the shock from the weights crack more than a couple crystals before i figured that out
Great video Jeff. I own six watches, one for every day, and the other ones for weekend wear and for when I dress up. Please do a video on pocket watches and rings.
I'm a lefty! Watches have been made for right-handed people (knobs are accessible with their right hand). To put a watch on my non-dominant hand would be awkward. However, I have been looking into obtaining left-handed watches. Thanks for all your tips Jeff! You're helping me rethink a whole lot of things now that I'm a middle-aged cat. Lol!
Just found your channel recently and am I 20 year old guy who really likes the classy stuff. So I'm glad you put out this kind of content, it's good advice for mature men regardless of our age.
About a year ago I didn’t wear a watch and instead relying on my smart phone. I have just two watch now a low cost black and brown leather band watch option. Metal watches aren’t good for my skin as they react. Still trying to get better at routinely remembering to wear a watch when dressing up. But it was watching these vids that reminded me of the need of wearing a good watch. Need to find more good watch store outlets to find more watch options to consider though too.
I finally purchased a watch again after years of not wearing one when I was building homes. I was so tired of having to locate my phone to check the time when I needed to be so place, especially when I don't always have my phone on me and I am not a person who is controlled by that phone, always needing to be doing something with it. I currently have two watches and working on getting different colored bands.
Jeff. I've got a lot of respect from you. I feel that your advice is sound proof and you are very approachable. I am a dark skin Hispanic man in my early 30s and I dress conservatively. Don't have time for nonsense. I appreciate what you do.
First watch I wore was a timex,I still have it,I love wearing watches, but you are right about size and fit, love the big watches, but if they are to big for your wrist they look awful Have learned a lot from you on what watches to wear and how to match with my outfits.
"You're not wearing a watch, you're wearing a clock." Hahaha. I always wore my watch on my dominant side but swinging a hammer or a machete has to be bad for them.
I believe that a watch is a necessary tool for everyday life. No matter what the occasion, one should have a watch to suit it. I agree with you on all points, especially when it comes to proportion, and which wrist to wear it. Some people are of the belief that it should be worn on the left hand only, when in fact it should be worn on the non dominant hand. Very nice taste in watch, you have a new subscriber in me. Salute!

As a left-handed, let me say THANK YOU for saying "dominant hand" rather than "right hand". Way too many people take for granted that the right hand is the dominant.
I have a g-shock gst b100 for my everyday watch. I think it fits just perfectly but I would like a second opinion. I have a 6.7 inch wrist. A pretty small wrist but the G-shock does, in my opinion, fit just right.

Thank you for the tips my G. My brother put me on to your channel and I'm feeling it. Love the presentation. I break a few of the rules because I like it. I wear bigger bezel watches because I feel the small ones are too dainty and make my hands look huge. So anywhere from 45 mm to 48/49mm is where I like my watches. And I love to rock my dive watches, especially the ones with a metal band, with suits. Big Bond fan. I figure I follow the rules with the rest of my clothing, I will personalize my look with my watches and hosiery. But one must know the rules in order to know which one to bend or break. Thanks again.
Another great video. I have learned a lot from watching your videos. I haven't worn a watch in probably 19 Years. I am looking to buy my first watch. Should the first watch I buy be a casual watch or a dress watch?
If you're only going to have ONE watch at the moment and you don't wear a suit daily, I recommend something a little more casual. Something relatively simple like a field or pilot-style watch with two bands, a more casual (like a nato or zulu strap) and a more dressy leather band.
For less common dressier occasions, I have a $100 Seiko 5 with 4 or 5 quick change leather straps. No tools needed, fits under the tightest of cuffs, and quickly matches your shoes and belts. Super sharp on a budget.
what up homeboy this is groove coming from Montana x Philly boy have to show these folks I am how is done and I appreciate all the information is going on
Great points and tips I can follow now. I get so much beside outfit style tips. I learn confident, swag communicating tips as well. Appreciate you channel.
I have a Omega Aqua Terra silver dial on a bracelet and three different leather straps for it. As versatile as needed. An explorer would do the job too, but i need a date window. And i hate the cyclops magnifying glass.
Some really solid content. If you're going to be in to watches, especially self-winds, or mech automatics, you should know something about you're wearing so: 1. You can talk intelligently when asked, 2. Can purchase intelligently. You don't want to end up with a Stuhrling that looks good, but will break in 2 months. What are the differences in movements - flyback chrono vs regular chrono, the purpose of a tourbillon, minute repeaters, and other complications. To not know how to take care of a self-wind, or mech auto, is a recipe for financial disaster. If you're in the mid-Atlantic area and are interested in watches - a trip to National Watch and Clock Museum in PA is time well spent.

Another great video. I have learned a lot from watching your videos. I haven't worn a watch in probably 19 Years. I am looking to buy my first watch. Should the first watch I buy be a casual watch or a dress watch?
Buy one that goes with how you dress most often. If you dress casually most of the time, buy a causal watch first..
If you're only going to have ONE watch at the moment and you don't wear a suit daily, I recommend something a little more casual. Something relatively simple like a field or pilot-style watch with two bands, a more casual (like a nato or zulu strap) and a more dressy leather band.

The Rolex Submariner works in any situation, day or night. I particularly like the pre-ceramic 16610
@andy lol no one buys a Rolex to keep time. I'm sure your corolla is more reliable than a Lambo too.
For less common dressier occasions, I have a $100 Seiko 5 with 4 or 5 quick change leather straps. No tools needed, fits under the tightest of cuffs, and quickly matches your shoes and belts. Super sharp on a budget.
Thank you, sir! Your video is like a Sotheby's Concise Encyclopedia on the subject.
Thanks Omar !
“Leave the dive watch with Danial Craig ” (in TFs) 👍🏼
I like watches, so I was a bit skeptical before I clicked, but that's all sage advice IMO. Great video.
Thanks Blair!

Great advice OG! 🙌 And this is coming from a watch snob 😉
Haha! Hi praise indeed
I didn’t think of how a leather strap can be uncomfortable in the summer. Great tip!
Glad it was helpful!
Great points and tips I can follow now. I get so much beside outfit style tips. I learn confident, swag communicating tips as well. Appreciate you channel.
Salute Tim !
I have a Omega Aqua Terra silver dial on a bracelet and three different leather straps for it. As versatile as needed. An explorer would do the job too, but i need a date window. And i hate the cyclops magnifying glass.
nice one, Any other suggestions on other accessories, for instance pens, cufflinks tiebars, socks and belts. Thanks
thankyou,
No problem Keith !
Rule of thumb for watch size is if the lugs either hang over the the wrist or curve over the wrist on both sides, it’s too large.
Cheers🍻
