Arsenal are set for a financial boost by the end of the 2022/23 campaign either through a Premier League title win or their first Champions League qualification since 2017. But are they financially healthy? How do they stack up against their Premier League rivals? How have they been managing their spending?
Abhishek Raj writes, Craig Silcock illustrates.

#Arsenal - Спорт
Just a clarification from us at Tifo: Ivan Gazidis was Arsenal CEO in 2018, whereas the current highest paid director doesn't hold the same or equivalent title - and that helps to explain the disparity in renumeration highlighted in that section of the video.
make next video on the negreira case
Remuneration*
@@sandeeppawar1485 They're clearly talking about rearranging the numbers.
I swear Vinai is the arsenal CEO or am I wrong
Saved me 7mins
I will sum up this entire video in one sentence. Arsenal are finacially stable at the moment, but need to return to the champions league if they would like to return to having profits like in 2017. You're welcome
The owners backing arteta definitely helps alot.
Thank you for the summary
@@Flinstone_Edible that's why buying all young players was key. The next two years they probably will spend a bit less even though revenues will go up. I think Arteta was told we can back you, but only to a point. I don't think they would have went spent as much as they did on Trossard and Jorginho (or any other 28 and/or 31 year olds) if they weren't so close to taking the league. Notice their other signing, Kiwior, is a 23 year old left footed CB. He's backup/insurance for Gabriel as essential to their system is having a left footed CB on the left and right footed on the right (Saliba). Happy to hear Kiwior's athletic measurements were off the charts for a CB. Combined with the fact that, like Pep, Arteta would never get a CB who doesn't have excellent ball skills, and he sounds like another possible elite CB. To the fans saying Edu can't sell - it's because he didn't inherit valuable assets. Look at the team now. We have guys not in our top 11 (Tierney, Nketiah, Balogun) who would actually fetch some real money in a sale. At least half of our top 11 are now the kind of £50+ million players we used to dream about. And a bunch of them (Martinelli, Odegaard, Gabriel, Saliba) are now worth double or triple what we paid. That's how you work the transfer market successfully.
@@Asshat237martinelli is not worth 12 or 18m
@@bandotrap5983 right?! Martinelli is worth about £80 million minimum now.
Me being financially unhealthy watching is arsenal financially healthy 😭😭
The club has also had the huge debt of the new Stadium weighing on its shoulders for a long time and has always teetered on financial troubles since. The recent signings they’ve made at the cost they had to pay have been bargains and with champions league money coming next season, I can’t see them possibly being in a better place financially. Their wage bill is tremendously low compared to the rest of the big clubs and will hopefully allow them to sign quality depth players for next season, as that is the main problem within the squad currently.
No way you still think we have a depth issue. Yes we can use more depth but no way you’ve watched all last 3 games and came to that conclusion that we have an issue with depth
@@redlucius544 my belief is that now that you have almost certainly secured CL spots, your depth would need to improve
Iirc you still dont exactly have a Partey backup yet, so that could be an issue
Plus you may want to look at a good term striker to back up Jesus or Nketiah imo
I agree
@@kyanzennaro2290 i think you may be right. Making a decision on Balogun might clear up the 9 position though which gives them flexibility. It’s very conceivable he could go for some big money if Arsenal don’t see him as the long term option and then they can have a pick as to what striker they want. Jorginho short term along with Elneny makes me think that the Rice acquisition they keep being linked to is to play him as an 8.
I have no idea though but the name of the game is flexibility. They’ve now solidified themselves in my eyes as contenders for the next 3-4 years at least with this core. It’s a great problem for them to have with squad depth and management.
@@kyanzennaro2290we have Balogun coming back along with Trossard/Martinelli for the CF position
Spurs are riding high off commercial revenue thanks to the newest stadium in London, England. But as you pointed out, they have one of the biggest debt number in Premier League. If they do drop off top 4, their revenue stream would take a significant hit, and they might be in trouble. That’s why you’re seeing Levy signing all these agreements elsewhere to have their stadium utilised for non-footballing activities, like the recently signed deal with F1 to have karting events held at their stadium.
Maybe unpopular, but spurs will win in the long term. They are becoming a financial giant and they can afford a large debt (mainly mortgage). In the long run, they will generate more revenue and spend more on the market. I hope I will be still alive when it will happen tho.

But they wana sell Beyoncé and NFL tickets 💩
We've spent alot of money on transfers over the past couple seasons....more than any other club not in the Champions league. It was necessary though to help realise Artetas vision and get us back to top 4 in the league again. Having Champions League money every season should help as well.
They also failed to mention that we spent all those money on 5-6 players. Look at the Manchester clubs for example. City spent 125 mil 100 was on grealish and then you’ve got United whose spent 100+ on two players. Our average is 37.5 mil and the most arteta has spent on a player is 50 mil Ben white.
And exept Pepe we havnt overpayed on any player either… benny blanco is worth every penny

@@moemalekafzalyexactly.....if arsenal win the league it will definitely demand more attention from kroenkes ...out of all the teams they own afc is the only one wich is global brand
I think he's genuinely very over hated just because everyone knows he's uber rich but he doesn't spend like roman did or city do. The guy owns winning franchises all of which recently took their respective leagues by storm by trusting young and/or innovative people from coaches to players. The Kroenke family themselves probably understand very little in the grand scheme about the sports their franchises play but they know how to put people in charge that do. Nobody can really deny that.
Arsenal spend 180m in a single window ONCE (on 6 players too!): "write that down! write that down!"
Other clubs ROUTINELY spend 100m ON A SINGLE PLAYER: *birds chirping*
Hahaha true
That’s what I said to other people. They just see the numbers we’re spending and think we’re spending on it for just one player.
We had no choice but to splash out. When Arteta joined, we had so much deadwood at the club that had to go and be replaced with quality young players who would buy into Arteta's philosophy. That move is already paying dividends, as evidenced by our performances this season.
Especially that one club who spends almost 100M on a Brazilian fidget spinner 🤣
@@derkaiser16 Lmao first time hearing someone call antony that, true tho.

As an Arsenal fan im so glad how far we've come as a club.

The thing with commercial revenue is that it’s directly impacted by being in/out of the champions league. Arsenal being out of it for about 7 years now has taken its toll. Sponsorships have steered clear of an Arsenal with Luiz,Musatfi,Kolasinac and co. However, this new Arsenal with Odegaard, Saka, Martinelli, Jesus etc. is a MUCH more attractive proposition to Sponsorships. I expect exponential revenue growth for Arsenal over the next few years.
with our performance in the league like you stated we will have revenue growth we will be playing in a better competition next season as well as this shirt sales have increased massively due the performance of the team and there are a bunch of individuals who are well liked by the fans. Also with our good performances in the league im sure they are generating much more matchday revenue compared to previous seasons because less fans are boycotting and more are going to matches which increases ticket sales shirt sales and food/drink sales. Also the deal with KSI/Logan Paul is huge because people will like what there influencers like.
Well....its normal that the revenues decreased.....no ucl for a while now.....if you look closely commercial revenues have grown......so the club is on a upward trajectory......if they win the premiership the will power on ahead
They Mention How Arsenal spent more than United and City during 21-22 but they don't mention that Utd spent 100m on Ronaldo and Sancho while Arsenal spent 188m on 5 players(avg around 37.5m) much less per player. Similarly city spent around 125m of which 100m was just on Grealish. One could easily Argue that All of Arsenal's signing(Bar Sambi, who is finding his feet at Crystal Palace) have been better than the rival players.

PSG supporter here, could you guys do this video for my club? I'd love for more people to know how bad Leonardo made the wage bill, how our revenue-to-expenses ratio was a healthy number before Leonardo came back (58-77% from 2017-2020) and then he increased it to 91% and 111%. More people need to know that Campos is doing what he can to bring us back to financial compliance, by loaning/selling more than 17 players this summer while only bringing in six, trying to sell Neymar, and the potential non-extensions of Messi and Ramos. Allez Paris
As a PSG fan I hate the current team. When zlatan left the team went downhill. I want more french players instead of signing a bunch of random old champions league winners.

Revenue income in football is related to performance, Arsenal unlike the other rivals haven’t been in the champions league in the past 5 years therefore their revenue is lower, with current performance of the team the revenue will increase
you should give a score and rank clubs at the end of these analysis, kind of like how Economics Explained does with countries. would be interesting to see
Superb video - fingers crossed the Arsenal can fix the roof while the sun is shining.
Arsenal are going to obviously grow their revenue for next season as they have qualified for the CL.
Winning the league will generate bigger profits and better commercial revenue and a popularity boost worldwide. The club has done really well in paying the players sensible wages with only Jesus requiring to step up his game to justify his wages.
Expecting Arsenal to become financially stronger next season.
Jesus, the four time Premiership winner, Brazil representative, needed to step up his game? The guy has been the impitus for the team stepping up the first half of the season, said by none other than Arteta
Winning the prem and qualifying for top 4 will also definitely attract a lot of players too. Some players we might’ve wanted would want to join us

@@Sohil876 he justified in 6 months his wages stop this unnecessary discourse
Jesus has totally justified his earnings. No need to step up his game, he just got injured. He will be much better hopefully is he gets fit for the rest of the season / next season.
Should be getting better at player sales too which has been something of an issue in recent years (likes of Ozil, Auba, Laca, Ramsey etc. all leaving on frees - as the video mentions, partly just to get them off the wage bill) as they're a) investing in younger players with potential re-sale value and b) finishing higher in the league which makes selling on squad players for higher prices easier
Are they bad at selling players or have they just been forced to sell bad players that have no real value? Lazy players on world class wages over 30 aren't exactly easy to move on for a fee
He can’t he got fined 571 million by all the nfl owners 😂. And that’s not a lie google it he had to pay 571 million to the nfl in October 2022.
We just had a bad patch made worse by loss of match day income due to Covid 19.
I was not expecting to see Mount Macchhapuchhre in a TIFO video lol
Not bad. Some of Magic Mike's numbers in there!
Quite accurate, except but you forgot the balance sheet.
The value of assets owned, players, has increased significantly. Hale End and signings, over the period.
Some of that asset base can be sold at profit to cut debt and build the squad.
Edu and Mikel, in last 2 years, have not bought a wrongun. Smart.
Include that in the analysis and the future is looking good.
Mr Kroenke is not stupid.
Arsenal are grand financially - we should get champions league money in for next year and the revenue was still being impacted by Covid for the 2021/22 year. The owners basically took a hit in terms of players leaving for free and bringing in new players to replace them which was all done to get themselves in a healthier position. All our players are now far higher than value than 2- 3 years ago and the club could probably afford a big sale in the next year or so
How you know you can sell your players more then you bought?
Please do a video for all top 6 clubs
So informative
Champions league qualification which I hope is all but guaranteed now will boost Arsenal greatly next season!!!
There is lot of room for improvement in sponsorship deals. Like Emirates paying 4m/year for stadium naming rights whereas city get 21m/year from etihad. Having no training kits sponsorships , whereas UTD , city gets 15-20m from it .
I wouldn't use city as an example when they're being investigated for inflating their sponsorship deals. But yeah arsenal could definitely do better on that front and will because the deals end soon
Don’t forget Kronke only worth 12 billion net worth so that’s including all his franchises. He was fined 571 million dollars by the nfl and he had to pay it full he lost a lot of money the last two years 😂🤣
you're kind of forgetting that out of good will Emirates gave Arsenal far more money for naming rights in the early 2000's as part of funding the stadium being built in the first place. And hence out of good will from Arsenal they are charged low fees now for naming rights.
Honestly, I would support Arsenal even if we don’t get into the CL or finish bottom. Whatever, glory is fun but I loved this club long enough to know I’ll be here lol 🔥🔥

I'm a Spurs supporter, but a fan of Kroenke's teams in Colorado(Avalanche in NHL, Nuggets in NBA, Mammoth in NLL, and Rapids in MLS).
He's a good owner(three of his teams won their league's championship in 2022), and clearly cares about the success of Arsenal, the Avalanche, the Rams, and the Nuggets, and even the Mammoth somewhat. I just hate how he pays no attention to the Rapids at all.
It does feel like hes actually putting in effort to see the teams succeed now. They were all in pretty bad shape for a long time but he's decided to care about sporting performance from all of them. Its cool to see and very exciting as an arsenal fan.
I feel like the club is one summer away from reaping the investment into transfers. We'll need a couple of big signings this summer but after that we'll have a proper, complete squad and the majority of our purchases have been successful meaning we'll be able to offload some players for hefty fees.

His wake up call was in October when the NFL fined him 571 million. Google it.
I think the main cause of the fall in revenue matches perfectly with the fall out the champions league then out of the Europa league while finishing poorly which led to fan dissatisfaction.
This and the ridiculous amount of useless players eating up wages
Now that Arsenal are starting to get back on track they will get a healthy payout for finishing 1st or 2nd in the EPL and get that Champions league revenue they’ve sorely lacked for the last half a decade

This summer will be be our best selling summer in years so our net spend wont be as high if we sell Pepe, Tavares, Balogun/Nketiah, Mari 5m, Lokonga, and Potentially even Smith Rowe which would easily be over 120m without Smith Rowe mabye 80- 100m
why would arsenal sell smith rowe?

@@marcus-sky Under Ferguson, yes. But in the last few years they've been away from the top for so long, I find it hard to imagine they could still have spent that much on transfers and wages without selling much or playing CL
Well, at least they are in better financial state than Barcelona
An episode like this indirectly shows how Man City has breached financial play rules. I could only imagine what their wage bill looks like.
Just cos Arsenal doesn't spend recklessly it doesn't mean they are broke. They have in the past spent money wrongly on signings that didn't work or sometimes failed to spend money to improve the squad to make it competent but that is all in the past now. Since the Kroenkes became sole owners in 2018 money has been made available to improve the squad. For example in the 2018 January window when Wenger was still at the club, they signed Aubameyang for a lot of money, they also gave Ozil and a very big contract. And then continue to spend money in the next two summers under Emery, including the high fee of Nicolas Pepe etc. But all that never really took Arsenal anywhere until the structure was changed with the arrival of Edu and Mikel Arteta.
Their task was to rebuild the squad and it wasn't an easy journey. A lot of money was spent but it was sensible, like when they spend 160m on 6 players whereas other clubs were spending close to 100m on a single player etc. Also they didn't completely rebuild the squad in one window like how Chelsea have done, they took a few steps in the process and some of their signings were stopgaps.
At the end of the day Arsenal do spend money but they spend it correctly right now, unlike in the past. All this is the brilliance of Edu and Arteta, they are only after the players they want and are not competing with other clubs for player's price tags.
The overarching conclusion is: Champions League = money.
