I’d give my left arm to hear the same artists do it live again and I’m 71. Especially Rosemary with her solo part in ‘Here comes those tears again’. David Lindley RIP
My dear wife of 41 years recently passed away. The words"won't you stay, just a little bit longer" evokes me to be wanting just a little bit more time with her, I want us to 'play a little bit more.' The instrumental ending feels like my heart yearning out to her, and the fade out is my tearful goodbye...
I understand your sentiments fully but I have a question for you? Would you like to have had another wife that lived longer or cherish the 41 years you had with YOUR WIFE? Memories never go away. Lost my first wife at age 45 but still to this day good thoughts and lots of love
@@kathyrebuck3131 So fortunate to have seen and meet David many times When he Toured England,, an amazing musician and all round nice guy, who will be sadly missed, but what a legacy of great music he has left us with.
The era when music, was actually music instead of noise! Not some computer generated rhythm! Musicians earned their money, years ago! They actually practiced and played instruments!
David Lindley, you had me at "oh won't you stay" - and I did. Thank you for countless moments of pure bliss that your music and your beautiful soul have gifted us forever. May warren Zevon be there to welcome you across the border. 🙏❤️🙏
The song was written by Maurice Williams in 1953 when he was 15 years old. He had been trying to convince his date not to go home at 10 o'clock as she was supposed to. He lost the argument, but as he was to relate years later, "Like a flood, the words just came to me." In 1960, the song was put on a demo by Williams and his band, the Zodiacs, but it attracted no interest until a ten-year-old heard it and impressed the band members with her positive reaction to the tune.[citation needed] The band's producer, Phil Gernhard, took it along with some other demos to New York City and played them for all the major record producers that they could access. Finally, Al Silver of Herald Records became interested, but insisted that the song be re-recorded as the demo's recording levels were too low. They also said that one line, "Let's have another smoke" would have to be removed in order for the song to be played on commercial radio. After the group recorded the tune again, it was released by Herald Records and was picked up by CKLW. It entered the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 on October 3, 1960 and reached the number one spot on November 21, 1960. It was dislodged a week later by Elvis Presley's "Are You Lonesome Tonight?". On the Herald recording, Williams sang lead and Henry Gaston sang the falsetto chorus. The original recording of "Stay" remains the shortest single ever to reach the top of the American record charts, at 1 minute 36 seconds in length. By 1990, it had sold more than 8 million copies. It received a new lease of popularity after being featured on the Dirty Dancing soundtrack.
And this Jackson Browne version is about the band leader wanting to Stay and play one more song... Maybe it is supposed to be at the same dance as Maurice and his date !😄
Ahhh Mr Dave ! That falsetto, then dropping into low register. Almost too much for me on this day following his passing. Godspeed Mr Dave🌹 Thanks for all the great music.
My buddy who lived down the street from me had this on an 8 track. Can't tell you how many times we listened to this in his old Pontiac, without knowing what the players in the band even looked like. Great memories!
Jackson Browne, David Lindley, Rosemary Butler, and all the rest of the band were amazing. I liked about everything they released. I was into some pretty heavy rock~n~roll until I heard this band. David Lindley will sure be missed for sure!!!

I remember buying this album, getting home to play it and knowing it was going to be part of the soundtrack of my life. It was and still is pure magic, and I'm grateful that Jackson helped the Eagles get started with their songwriting. If they all were my neighbours I'd be in heaven.
The music still means so much to this very day the quality and craftsmanship and detail and the stories he tells also poignant and beautiful ..JB one of the undisputed all-time great songwriters singers and performers nobody like him
Just listened to a Rosemary Butler radio interview from a few years back. Came across as a very humble lady who loved what she was doing when she was doing it. Seemed devoid of ego-was thrilled to be singing whether singing lead or back-up. Think she'll be forever remembered for her shining moment in this song.
" When this album came out , I had a party house , I think 5 t-shirts , a couple of pairs of jeans , broke by Tuesday from partying on the weekend , played this album so much , there weren't any grooves left . Life was good .
