Text: Anne Ross Cousin | Tune: RUTHERFORD
The sands of time are sinking,
The dawn of Heaven breaks;
The summer morn I’ve sighed for,
The fair, sweet morn, awakes:
Dark, dark has been the midnight,
But dayspring is at hand,
And glory, glory dwelleth
In Emmanuel’s land.
O Christ, He is the fountain,
The deep, sweet well of love;
The streams on earth I’ve tasted,
More deep I’ll drink above:
There, to an ocean fulness,
His mercy doth expand,
And glory, glory dwelleth
In Emmanuel’s land.
With mercy and with judgement,
My web of time He wove;
And e’en the dews of sorrow
Were lustred with His love;
I’ll bless the hand that guided,
I’ll bless the heart that planned,
When throned where glory dwelleth
In Emmanuel’s land.
The bride eyes not her garment,
But her dear bridegroom’s face;
I will not gaze at glory,
But on my King of grace;
I rest upon His merit,
I know no other stand:
The Lamb is all the glory
Of Emmanuel’s land.
I’ve wrestled on towards Heaven,
‘Gainst storm and wind and tide;
Now, like a weary traveller
Who leans upon his guide,
Amid the shades of evening,
While sinks life’s lingering sand,
I’ll hail the glory dawning
From Emmanuel’s land.
Hallelujah. All I have is Christ, Jesus is my life. Thanks be to the Lord my God and Savior Jesus Christ.
First heard this hymn in the film Logic on Fire
Today we sang this hymn in our Church. No one sings it better than a Welsh congregation. Such wonderful promises we have in Christ. God Bless
I will not gaze at glory but on my King's face
To God Be The Glory...
We will lift up our God to Highest Heaven...
God Be Our Helper.
God Bless you All And Your Families.
These hymns are great. It brings back memories of Sunday mornings at home before anythings started when my late father would teach us those songs of praise. Dad had a bass second to none. Thank you Dad through Jesus.
How a hymn of praise can touch the deepest of our hearts! It is so different from today's 'evangelical music', so commercial, so devoid of spiritual depth! Yes, this is a song that leads us, indeed, to worship the Almighty!
This hymn reminds me of what I can expect when this earthly life is over. It is certainly a great experience to anticipate- to be with Jesus Christ forever.
Amen, come and listen again! This is a good notification.
For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better: Phil.1:23
God bless from England.
Amy Carmichael brought me here to hear this hymn.During her time of sickness in bed at night she asked her nurse to read John 14,15&16; Revelation 7:9-17; chapters 21&22 so many times that she had them memorized,as well as the whole of Rutherford's hymn "The sands of time are sinking".What a glory we all have in Christ in Eternity.precious hymn.
Deep touching story. Thanks be to our LORD GOD
JESUS BE PRAISED
Come back and listen again. Thank me later, or now!
What depth and beauty in these worshipful lyrics!
Powerful hymn. We are expecting a greater glory beyond this life.
The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn,
shining ever brighter till the full light of day. proverbs 4;18
Amen and amen! How soul-stirring, how uplifting is this hymn! Thank you for posting this. God bless
Tremendous depth to these hymns.
The old ones have doctrine in them. Get a really old hymn book.
Many old hymns possess a solid foundation in Scripture and a relevant message for the faithful.
Amen
First learnt this in Sunday School
Thank you very much for all your hard work in posting these hymns and sharing with the world, especially for those of us not so privileged to join in singing within these great congregations--a treasure trove indeed.
I must try to make my church sing these hymns. So meaningful and beautiful these hymns are. First I'll have to learn to sing them correctly. Thank you Martijn de Groot for posting these treasures. Also I must make it a point to attend service at Metropolitan Tabernacle whenever I visit London. Lovely singing.
Come back and listen again brother.
Thank you for posting this lovely hymn. I have not heard it in many years so was very pleased to find it today. The words are lovely and so is the tune. I'll see you all one day "In Emmanuel's Land."
Amen
When time is no more, we wont have to worry.
Hallelujah!
This RUclips channel is great! Thanks for all the great quality hymns!
v 4 lines 5,6 Not on the crown He giveth but on His pierced hand ?
I think that is in another, separate verse that is sometimes sung - but not in this one. The hymnal in the church that I go to has the verse you are speaking of.
