~WHY THEMES WERE INCLUDED/EXCLUDED~ *Trials and Tribulations, Ace Attorney Investigations, and Gyakuten Kenji 2 Spoilers* Jacques Portsman is not given a theme because giving him Prologue is like saying Prologue in Trials and Tribulations is Doug Swallow's theme or the Recipe for Turnabout case opening is Maggey's because they talk during the case openings. To me, these themes aren't character themes but just case opening themes. However, I've made an exception for Lance for the Case 3 Opening theme due to people's high association of Proto Badger, which is Lance in costume, to the opening. (I didn't use a Proto Badger image for Lance to spare you nightmares.) While some people may associate Reminiscence ~ False Relations with Lance, the song never actually plays for him in the game. People say I have missed Katherine Hall due to her attempted murder (poisoning) of Dane Gustavia in Case 3. I will include her theme in the future.
~WHY THEMES WERE INCLUDED/EXCLUDED~ *Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Spoilers* Newton Belduke is included because he is the culprit of his own suicide. Darklaw is included for involuntarily causing The Legendary Great Fire. The Storyteller is included because he is the “culprit” of his own fake suicide. Additionally, he can be deemed a mastermind type of figure due to writing the story of what happens in Labyrinthia, which means he has a hand in how witch trials are supposed to go.
~WHY THEMES WERE INCLUDED/EXCLUDED~ *Justice for All and The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve Spoilers* William Shamspeare is included for the murder of Duncan Ross. While Enoch Drebber’s murder plan was not successful, he is included because he essentially orchestrates all of Case 3. Courtney Sithe wouldn’t have had the chance to kill Odie Asman without taking advantage of Drebber’s plan. Tobias Gregson is included because he is a tactician for the Reaper. This means that he is involved in murders by coming up with plans and overseeing that they are carried out. Klint van Zieks is included for being the real identity of the Professor, who has killed multiple members of the British aristocracy. (Genshin Asogi can be argued to share a theme with him, but there’s no additional theme to add.) Mael Stronghart is included for ordering murders as the head of the Reaper. If you say he isn't a killer, it's like saying Matt Engarde isn't a killer in Justice for All because Engarde didn't get his hands dirty either. Both had their murders carried out by assassins, except Stronghart on an even larger scale by controlling the process through government officials as well. I only labeled him "Reaper" in the description timestamps instead of "Head of the Reaper" to avoid spoilers because the Reaper isn't revealed as an organization until Case 4.
Calisto Yew is underrated as shit. This woman was the definiton of a different breed of evil. She literally pulled a gun out during a "trial" and said "I don't care. I will blow your head off right here in front of a JUDGE."
Okay, I'll admit that in AA Investigations Case 4 I laughed a little as the moment of a violent murder was shown and cheery jazzy music starts playing.
Spoilers: I loved how they pulled the contrast to Godot with her theme when she was revealed as Shih-Na. Her theme didn't change at all and failed to be recontextualized. That just made her even more weird. Great move
Jezaille Brett is such a solid villain to look back on once you finish TGAA1-2, every moment she spends on screen is spent fucking with both the player and the cast at large. She basically only shows up to court for formality's sake, and when she finally dies? Basically just goes "haha lmao sure why not". We know so precious little about her, but she sets the precedent for Britain from the outset of Adventures and ends up being an extension of the insidious conspiracies that Britain had been hiding away in Resolve. Fantastic culprit, so easy to hate but also leaves that biting feeling of the fact that you never truly caught her.
The only thing I liked was that it was confronting her that ignited Ryunosuke's fighting spirit as a lawyer. As evident from how his old press was just "Yes!", and then after she clearly DISPOSES of evidence, Ryunosuke is less centred on clearing his name, and instead trying to get Brett/Shin sent down for her crimes (Well, that's how I see it anyway)
Raiten Menimemo is such a great first case culprit for his game, that he genuinely might be my favorite first case culprit in the series. Everything about him just oozes personality from his animations, to his design, and especially his theme. His plan and motivations for murder are both really good, displaying his sense of misguided justice perfectly. Seriously, Menimemo doesn't have any obvious flaws that I feel like the majority of first case culprits have. Legit top tier culprit, I love 'em.
I wouldn't say he has any major flaws per say. He does what you need for a case 1 culprit. But I'd argue that he's definitely not the best first case culprit in the franchise. For the games that I'm including: Ace Attorney 1 to 6, plus Great Ace Attorney 1 and 2, and Investigations 1 and 2. I've never played Layton vs Wright so I cannot speak for it here. Spoilers below: Dahlia Hawthorne and Kristoph Gavin are easily tied for the "best culprit of case 1 in their respective games." Jezaille Brett is also a pretty great first case culprit because she's a good "love to hate her" kind of killer. She's awful but that was half the fun of catching her red handed.
@@l.n.3372 To be fair, he's definitely the best first case 'exclusive' killer if that makes sense. The three you mentioned are all pretty big parts of their respective games.
@@hootsoot1036 Hmmm. Well, I guess it's all just subjective opinion anyway xD But yes, that's true: for a stand alone type of killer/character who never returns again in story, and who isn't vital to the main plot, he was pretty unique and interesting for himself. I think he's definitely better than the culprits of AA 1 and 2, for sure. But I think - and maybe this is just me - he might not be the most memorable. I mean, I personally didn't even remember that he had his own theme music xD so maybe they doesn't say much about his memorability lmao.
1st place: The man who masterminds the game 2nd place: The professor ~ A spectre revived and Sealed ~ the darkness within 3rd place: Quercus Alba ~ The enemy who surpasses the law
15 years is a long time to wait... You can't imagine how much I've suffered... And now... the perfect opportunity presents itself. At last... I shall have my revenge! ...Merry Christmas.
49:06 I suspected something was up about Jigoku from minute one, from how he kept talking about Japan trying to stay in England's good books - but it was still surprising nonetheless (After all, no other judge has been trying to keep a good reputation in the series)
great work as always! but I can’t help wondering why *AAI2 spoilers* Katherine Hall isn’t included. She has a character theme, she committed a crime (the poisoning of Gustavia) and even went to jail for it
@@manuelmanolo897 That doesn't make any sence. She is the reason why case 3 is a thing. Just because she didn't kill him doesn't mean that she shouldn't be on the list, because if that were the case, both Green and Drebber should also not be listed for example.
You're technically right, and I have no actual arguments to disprove your point, but for me it just feels wrong to include her here. She's a genuinely kind person, and her crime wasn't much more than a desperate attempt to expose the true culprit from the case that got her father figure arrested.
Possibly an unpopular opinion, but (AA:I SPOILERS) Calisto Yew is one of my favorite antagonists in the series. She's got a fantastic theme song, and legitimately had me fooled for the first half of the case she first appeared in - a pure "chaotic evil" villain that's easy to both love and hate!
@@Abyssreaper99 I think Quercus Alba should have just killed that one guy in self defense as Coachen tried to have him assassinated and then Coachen gets killed by Yew/Shih-na for failing and then she waits for the opportunity to kill him, giving him more screentime before the exposure and then giving him more personality and exploring the relationship with Palaeno more(giving Palaeno more screen time because he was cool) hell, I'd even add foreshadowing about the president of Zheng Fa being corrupt
@@xord6286 It would have been great if Alba was still the ring leader but Yew was the main villain since you wouldn’t really see it coming and her character is much more fun than Alba.
tgaa2... absolutely bangers all of them, and wow the way half of those (starting w case 3) are such amazingly designed or major characters. fantastic culprits in that game
18:20 in the moonlight a bell can be heard striking once. Only once. a man runs through the streets, police giving chase. Meanwhile a for hire recovering from the shock of the bell, starts hearing sounds from below. He gets ready to shoot. ... It's just a cat. The next second, the for hire is dead with a knife in his back. The murderer knows as long as the man is alive, *she* can survive a little longer, at least until the man is executed. Then both her and the murderer can be free from their past.
Spoilers below for the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles: Regarding the Great Ace Attorney, these games had amazing music but I'm kinda disappointed that the 2 main killers of Adventures don't really have their own themes. McGilded is integral to Adventures yet he only has the "suspicious persons" type of theme. And even worse, Graydon doesn't get his own theme either, actually sharing the same "suspicious" theme with McGilded! Perhaps that's meant to be tragic irony: you became the demon you hated the most? But irony aside, I think that they were important enough to warrant their own theme music. Resolve had so many cool characters with unique themes, that it's a bit disappointing to see that 2 very important main culprits of Adventures didn't get unique themes too.
True, but the point about the irony is the intended message I think, except it could have been separate from the "Suspicious Person" theme... ~~Also, unrelated but I haven't seen any love for the final theme in the video which I think is very good for a reminisces theme, as they mostly don't stick around in my head.~~
@@velocitydelta Agree with both those points. The irony was intended, but those 2 culprits are vital enough to Adventures that they deserved a unique theme separate from the Suspicious people theme. I'm a fan of the final theme in the video. I don't think any theme is bad here, but certain ones will always stand out more depending on whom you ask. There's also the themes of more sympathetic characters vs less sympathetic characters. And I think more sympathetic characters get reminiscing themes more often.
Since there's a lot of themes again, I'm just going to go by individual game like I did for the reminiscence themes to make things easier on myself. AAI 7. Good Niiight 6. KG-8 Incident 5. Another solid compilation! Great to see how far this series has reached vsLayton spoilers: Something that someone pointed out was that the Shades were probably responsible for the assault of Olivia (though there's a small chance Eve herself did the act) along with the car crash of Carmine. Both weren't really attempted murders more or so simple attacks, so I wouldn't put too much thought into it. Anyways, the theme is "Witches' Theme ~ Chase".
The Enemy who Surpasses the Law is a theme where its like "finally I got him!!! He can't possibly get out of this one!" And then "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... WHEN SHALL THIS TORTURE END!?"
At 32:10, I actually feel that the SS Burya theme should be used instead since that plays whenever you talk to her. The Russian song seems to play more for Stroganov.
My favorites (NOT listed in order!): 1)Seal ~ Locked-Away 'Darkness' 2)The Storyteller’s theme ~ Parade 3)The Professor ~ The Phantom Lives 4)Enoch Drebber ~ The Link Between Science And Magic 5)Doctor Sithe ~ The Solitary Coroner 6)Tobias Gregson ~ The Enemy Of Great Detective 7)The Chief Justice, Stronghart ~ The Ticking Judiciary 8)The Gate To The Truth
Spoilers to ace attorney investigations 2 Shouldn’t Katherine Hall be included in the list of culprits. While she was not the main person that was taken down in case 3, the case did focus a bit on the attempted murder and she was the one who committed that crime.
Justice for All and DGS2 Spoilers: I'm aware of that, but he still ordered the murders. It would be impossible for the MlP crossover to be in here anyways for a couple reasons. 1) there was no murder and 2) it’s not official canon to play and I am not a Broney. Just want to see it as a Ace Attorney Fan

Spoilers for TGAA2 case 5 Kazuma Asogi should have made an appearance on this list despite killing no one because he was the original Japanese assassin hired to kill Tobias Gregson
Have you finished both games? *MAJOR SPOILER* : Technically, he didn't commit any murder, but he's one of the person behind The Reaper. He planned the assasination of the defendant that Barok prosecuted and sent A. Shinn to kill them. So basically just like Drebber..? (He planned the murder but didn't actually kill Asman)
I mean, of course it’s obvious. The man looks just like a final boss. I think it was the matter of figuring out what he actually did. And that was.. a lot, admittedly. Though I didn’t suspect him at first at all😅
@@AIBAGold the point of stronghart isn't that it's hard to tell he was evil, the point is that he's such a powerful and influential figure that even accusing him of or investigating him for any of his wrongdoing is all but impossible unless a completely unorthodox situation happens, such as in the great secret trial. normally he has so many ways of slipping away, of avoiding culpability. the only reason he was finally caught is because the prosecution, defense AND defendant (an influential prosecutor) were against him AND a large portion of the judiciary was present to watch the trial, so he couldn't cancel it early and erase the uncomfortable evidence. his story is not one of a mystery, but one of deliberate coverups, and people thinking they are above the law.

@@l.n.3372 To be fair, he's definitely the best first case 'exclusive' killer if that makes sense. The three you mentioned are all pretty big parts of their respective games.
@@hootsoot1036
Hmmm. Well, I guess it's all just subjective opinion anyway xD
But yes, that's true: for a stand alone type of killer/character who never returns again in story, and who isn't vital to the main plot, he was pretty unique and interesting for himself. I think he's definitely better than the culprits of AA 1 and 2, for sure. But I think - and maybe this is just me - he might not be the most memorable. I mean, I personally didn't even remember that he had his own theme music xD so maybe they doesn't say much about his memorability lmao.
him and Horace Knightley imo
@@l.n.3372 I don't particularly like Gavin as a character and villain, but he certainly is a great case 1 killer and sets up the mystery greatly.

Happy "Almost Christmas" Day to all Ace Attorney fans! Let us remember what's important about today; that's it's not yet Christmas.

At last... I shall have my revenge!

49:06 I suspected something was up about Jigoku from minute one, from how he kept talking about Japan trying to stay in England's good books - but it was still surprising nonetheless (After all, no other judge has been trying to keep a good reputation in the series)
great work as always! but I can’t help wondering why
*AAI2 spoilers*
Katherine Hall isn’t included. She has a character theme, she committed a crime (the poisoning of Gustavia) and even went to jail for it
cuz she's not the main villain of her case
It seems I missed this one. >< I'll be sure to include it in the future!
@@manuelmanolo897 That doesn't make any sence. She is the reason why case 3 is a thing. Just because she didn't kill him doesn't mean that she shouldn't be on the list, because if that were the case, both Green and Drebber should also not be listed for example.
@@manuelmanolo897 Neither is Yanni Yogi
You're technically right, and I have no actual arguments to disprove your point, but for me it just feels wrong to include her here. She's a genuinely kind person, and her crime wasn't much more than a desperate attempt to expose the true culprit from the case that got her father figure arrested.
Thank you for your work ! It's always a joy to see your videos in my feed.
Possibly an unpopular opinion, but (AA:I SPOILERS)
Calisto Yew is one of my favorite antagonists in the series. She's got a fantastic theme song, and legitimately had me fooled for the first half of the case she first appeared in - a pure "chaotic evil" villain that's easy to both love and hate!
I like her more than Alba, should've been the main antagonist tbh
Pretty sure everyone I know would agree that Yew was a better villain than Alba. Alba was just annoying ngl
@@Abyssreaper99 I think Quercus Alba should have just killed that one guy in self defense as Coachen tried to have him assassinated and then Coachen gets killed by Yew/Shih-na for failing and then she waits for the opportunity to kill him, giving him more screentime before the exposure and then giving him more personality and exploring the relationship with Palaeno more(giving Palaeno more screen time because he was cool)
hell, I'd even add foreshadowing about the president of Zheng Fa being corrupt
@@xord6286 It would have been great if Alba was still the ring leader but Yew was the main villain since you wouldn’t really see it coming and her character is much more fun than Alba.
You foolish fools. A Von Karma is perfect in every way including being an antagonist (Just don't ask him to read anything)
Right at the very beginning I couldn't help but snort at the image of Hicks falling to his fucking death while Cammy's stupid ass theme is playing
tgaa2... absolutely bangers all of them, and wow the way half of those (starting w case 3) are such amazingly designed or major characters. fantastic culprits in that game
0:15 okay but the happy music with her smiling, but knowing shes a murderer and showing the crime scene is scary
i wonder why you werent able to get a high res pic of klint van zieks?
I like how you can see their victims in the background for most of them

Gregson’s theme is here because his theme is so killer… r-right?
It's cuz he fucking DIES
Unrelated but happy birthday rayfa :D

I love London Town, and that scene with Garrideb is so goofy and I still really like it
18:20 in the moonlight a bell can be heard striking once.
Only once.
a man runs through the streets, police giving chase.
Cammy had my favorite theme in that game because I actually wasnt expecting that twist.
Great Gateway to The Truth is so good man
An outstanding compilation! Much appreciated
Sometimes, when I'm feeling down, I'm only able to express my emotions while listening to Lamenting People
Spoilers below for the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles:
Regarding the Great Ace Attorney, these games had amazing music but I'm kinda disappointed that the 2 main killers of Adventures don't really have their own themes.
@@velocitydelta
Agree with both those points.
Nikolina Pahlova is the youngest culprit by age in the series.
Quercus Alba is the oldest culprit by age in the series.
Pretty sure Quercus Alba is the oldest character in general, at least from the ones we know the age of
Wasn’t Dahlia 14 when she jumped into the river?
Since there's a lot of themes again, I'm just going to go by individual game like I did for the reminiscence themes to make things easier on myself.

Both weren't really attempted murders more or so simple attacks, so I wouldn't put too much thought into it. Anyways, the theme is "Witches' Theme ~ Chase".

Technically, Mael Stronghart isn't a killer. He never got his hands dirty.
Justice for All and DGS2 Spoilers:
I'm aware of that, but he still ordered the murders. If you say he isn't a killer, it's like saying Matt Engarde isn't a killer in Justice for All because Engarde didn't get his hands dirty either. @@xcenex479 Figuring that he is the reaper is even more obvious with how the story always point at him
@@AIBAGold Then I guess I’m dumb
