I gotta be honest, SOR Remake is my favorite Beat Em Up of all time, official or unofficial. The amount of love and detail put into this game is incredible. The amount of playable characters, different story paths, stages, enemies, incredible remixed music, etc. It's like a perfect combination of all 3 SOR games, AND THEN SOME. It would’ve been higher to possibly come close to sorr with the reveal of the new star power, deva and shiva but when they made only cherry have the ability to run(I’m sure that’s what’s going on since axel and blaze have’nt shown to be able to run yet and I refuse to believe the players playing sor4 are just dumb to not use run as any other character)for me they dropped the ball.

"While the animation has been bumped up a notch, it never looks out-of-place or foreign to the gameworld" - which is EXTREMELY rare for fan-made beat-em-ups/fighting games made in Beats-of-Rage/Mugen etc.. Most of them just jam sprites from very different games with different art styles and sprite sizes together, and it looks like a jumbled collage. Makes you appreciate a cohesive project like this.
Just did a replay and beat SOR 1-3 and loved it! I've never heard about this until seeing on your channel! That soundtrack tho! It is legendary to say the least! Thank you to the creators who really put so much effort in making this and thank you Sega for an awesome review!
Thank you for introducing me to this, Mr. Lord X. This looks like the perfect beat-em up and perfect Streets of Rage game. Streets of Rage 4 developers beware....
@@SegaLordX As I always say "to each his own, but this is a match made in heaven". SoRR has become my personal standard meter against which all future 2D Beat 'em up games are measured.
One of the greatest video games ever. It's tough for me to even go back and play the original Genesis SoR games now. This just takes those to a whole other level.
Every word of praise is true but don't forget all the custom sprite work, especially Adam's! I was so happy to see him return in the SoR2/3 style. The SoR1-style-but-SoR2/3-size sprites for Axel and Blaze are just the cherry on top!
The most impressive & professional "Fan-Project" that I've ever seen!! Bomber Games.. Thank You!! You're one SUPER talented collective of coders! SLX, excellent work on spotlighting this one! Thanks as always for the quality content! Keep up the great work! Really like the new introduction also!
This game is AWESOME, and probably one of the best examples of fans getting together and creating a playable love-letter to an amazing franchise. I spent a fair bit of time with this one, and it was just like you described; felt like playing that "SOR4" that we never got.
This one should be picked up & licensed by Sega & Sold As A Plug & Play for Tv's.. Sell it with two high quality controllers & have the ability to save your unlockables... It would be A HUGE HIT... I Would Purchase It....
I can honestly say, at the risk of sounding a bit over dramatic, that this game ENRICHED MY FUCKING LIFE. As a huge fan of the SOR series, discovering this has brought me unprecedented joy. It has those super feel-good nostalgia moments but it also has those "wtf!? Oh my god, you can do that in this game!?" moments of rediscovery that uplift the experience. If anyone who worked on this reads this, THANK YOU! My only regret is that I hadn't discovered it sooner. Me and my girlfriend both played the shit out of the original SOR games and as huge fans of the series, we give this remake a huge stamp of approval. We've only been playing it for a couple weeks or so off and on and have already unlocked everything in Blaze's shop. XD This more than fulfilled our desires for more of the same (SOR is just awesome how it is) and scratched that itch for a revised experience with additional content and functionality as far as the combat system goes. Thanks again BOMBERGAMES! You made us feel like kids again and that's not easy to pull off!
hangemhighhilton my friend maybe you can help us then. We want to play this game but don’t really understand how it works. There are supposedly over 50 levels. But how are you supposed to play through that in one sitting? Is there a save feature? Check points? Please help
@@PhillyCYOSports The fifty levels span through all three main paths you can take and branching paths within those paths. It's impossible to play all the levels in a single play through. You can save by exiting the game using alt+F4, then when you reopen the game, it'll start off right where you left it. :P
Zobbster it is worth hunting down. But it’s hard to find since sega put the freeze on it. I have it and I keep it well backed up cause it’s just that priceless!
I honestly don't know why Sega never ran with this for SoR 4. It's very possibly the best Brawler ever made and few people even know about it. It's basically everything the fans of the original wanted - just enough of an upgrade over the originals whilst being different enough to stand on its own. Perfect. Would have loved it on my Switch.
The only reason I haven’t replayed this game is that i don’t want to become obsessed with SoR again. If SEGA were to take over/buy this project and port it to modern consoles and steam, this would easily be my new most played game ever.
I have this on my modded original Xbox. I get feels playing this on a console. I have yet to finish a whole playthrough but the quality of this remake is a 10/10
Blazing Chrome has to be a contender. And as a fan of Super Mario World I would also include the 100’s of SMW ROM Hacks that have been made over the past decade.
I remember playing this and the Beats of Rage versions. When I played SORRv5, I was absolutely blown away. Truly an SOR fan passion project. Such a shame it was shut down. I just hope SOR4 actually has some music by Yuzo Koshiro.
I think someone already said it before, but the star system was already in place in 3. Which means they had to come up with unique gameplay additions for Adam and Max, who never had the star system in play.
The fact that this is not recognized as a legit entity in the series hurts my heart. SO much time, effort, and love for this series is here, as a diehard fan of the series, this game was absolutely amazing for me. I would gladly pay for a legit physical release.
Fantastic project, runs like a dream on even a budget PC, and worth experiencing with a Saturn pad just because it feels like it was meant for that system. What's even more incredible is *it does not use reverse engineering nor a single line of code from the original games* (direct quote). Those graphics? Done from scratch. Sure, the effects are lifted, but that's it.
To be fair, many of the sprites and graphics were ripped from the original games, only enhanced with more colours, details, new moves, etc. But the engine was made from scratch, you're correct.
Definitely one of my favorite fan made games. I've been enjoying SOR2 for as long as I can remember and the remake definitely was very faithful to the original. I don't want to give away the hidden characters but there was one in particular that I had so much fun with and never thought I would. Great recommendation!
Great review. I loved this series. It was one of the few games I played growing up that had a character that looked like me in it. Skate meant a ton to me way back in the 90s. Brought me into gaming and fighter stuff in general.
You see- this was the original Sega 'Mania' game. It is just so, so good- arguably better than the originals in all ways except for it not having a physical release. I really do think it is criminal that Sega haven't seen the value in this game. I literally played through Streets of Rage 3 last night- it is a series that I've been playing since I was back in 1992, and that I still love to this day. For me, Remake is a part of the series proper, owing to the amount of time I ended up investing in it. It is just so, so good. Maybe the next gaming petition the community should start should be something along the lines of 'SaveStreetsofRageRemake'?
I adore this game. It only gets better when you get a bit deeper into some of the fan made SOR Maker versions too. There’s even a very good quality playable version of Vegeta from Dragonball Z which is a direct sprite swap over one of the versions of Shiva.
@Shyning77 Nah don't let it go to your head it is FAR from perfect. The main problem is that its so good it doesn't fit in with the p2w terrible games released today. The second major problem is that its waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy better than streets of rage 4. thank you
My friend, this excellent coverage of an excellent game, truly one of the very best experiences I've had in this decade, rightfully earned you a new sub!
I remember following this project closely on forums around the mid 00 when bomber games and bomber link used to release fascinating additions that came with SORR, each was an improvement over the earlier version, this game has almost 10 years of hard work put into it.
Goodness, what a fantastic game. I have to confess I didn't know anything about this game... Thank you Sega Lord X for shining some light of good Old Sega beet em up Street of Rage.
It was a golden age for video games back in the early nineties. A game where just a handful of people with hearts full of passion could make a game like Streets of Rage or Golden Axe. Games made by like six people that entertained millions of people. How I miss those days. I honestly think people who worked in the "industry" back then miss those days too. Just like music, the current state of gaming these days is a result of what happens when something goes from being an art form, to a business, to an industry. It loses it's soul. There's no heart put into games these days. When you beat a game and watch the credits roll these days, there's no connection whatsoever. It's just a long-ass list of names of people who may or may not have even given a shit about what they just created. Back in the Genesis days, the names you saw on the credits meant something. They meant: "These are the people who made this entertainment for me. These are the people that brought me fun and joy."
If Sonic Mania can be recognized and made official by Sega, I see no reason whatsoever why this can't be as well. This game is exactly as you said...a labor of love, and it's just brilliant. It's not too late, Sega can still make this official someday I hope, maybe after SOR4 like you said.
Yeah, Streets of Rage Remake is what every Sega's fan need. The latest version of this game 5.1 is the best out there. It has freaking 10 (or even more) endings, possibility to unlock skins of main characters from first two games in the series and many cool stuff and tons of unlockables. Also there is a tons of mods made by fans for this game, which you can play via mods menu in actual game. And honestly, this game is even better than upcoming SoR4. How do i know that? Well, because SoR Remake doesn't have stupid system requirements for your PC, that does not do your PC and you any justice. It can run even on Windows XP if you want. I don't have problems by playing it on Windows 7 at all. Also SoR Remake has original graphics style, unlike SoR 4, that has this cartoon like look, which makes main characters look like they was riped straight from some looney tunes cartoons. Sure i will play Streets of Rage 4, but Streets of Rage Remake is what TRUE Streets of Rage 4 should have been.
Thank you Sega Lord X, for shining a light on this. I had followed the development close to this at the time, and since it's final release I dare say it: it's not only the best SOR, but the best beat 'em up that I've ever played. And that is still one of my fave genres. And all that being an unofficial game, such an accomplishment! Also I'm glad that you have the same opinion and find it possible that after SOR4 is released, Sega could contact the developers and had it released officially. In a post-Sonic Mania world, that doesn't seem so far fetched. Keep the up the awesome work man! And that's a cool new intro
It seems like we were too ahead of our time, sadly, as the Sonic Mania and retro gaming hype only started years later. That said, SORR couldn't be released as such as it uses a few sprites and graphics ripped from games that aren't SEGA's property.
Awesome video. Didn't even know this was a thing but did some looking around and found it. Loaded it up on my arcads cabinet and its pretty amazing. Sega should've made this SofR 4 years ago 🤙🏾
big props for bringing this up Mr. X! (no pun intended :D) more people should know about this gem P.S. fun fact: in the game's shop, if it's late night time on your system clock, then Blaze will be sleeping and there is a chance to steal some unlockable (or get caught trying)
Ive had this since just before the issues with Sega and I've played it I don't know how many times. I love that you can choose your custom game settings, the sprite for the characters (I hate the SoR3 look) and even tweak the scan lines (I play it on my TV and it needs scan lines to look right for me). I'm hyped as hell to get SoR4 but I'll still come back to SoRR from time to time. Great video, you earned a new subscriber today.
Wow! As a huge fan of the SoR series I feel embarrassed that I didn't even know this existed until now! Thanks for shedding light on it and the fantastic review of course.
What do you expect from people's whos ego is above anything else in life. IF they cant be solely responsible for bringing something "great" in the world and get all the attention from it, they want to destroy it instead. Its what is currently killing the AAA Market besides the gold standard of pure unadulterated greed.

This is what happens when a a team is dedicated to their favourite franchise, has a vision, and sticks to it. It's beautiful.
Just did a replay and beat SOR 1-3 and loved it! I've never heard about this until seeing on your channel! That soundtrack tho! It is legendary to say the least! Thank you to the creators who really put so much effort in making this and thank you Sega for an awesome review!
Blaze was my first crush as a kid lol
Mine was another Sega icon: Ecco the Dolphin.

Streets of Rage Remake is like Sonic Manic, a perfect stuff for fans!
Thank you for introducing me to this, Mr. Lord X. This looks like the perfect beat-em up and perfect Streets of Rage game. Streets of Rage 4 developers beware....
I find that people who do not like the look of Streets of Rage 4 love the look of this.
@@SegaLordX As I always say "to each his own, but this is a match made in heaven". SoRR has become my personal standard meter against which all future 2D Beat 'em up games are measured.
I love your videos lord x. You deserve far more subscribers. Slowly us sega fans are finding you! Keep up the great work
I remember play Streets of rage and Streets of rage 2...... These games are a reason that I did not join a gang or anything stupid like that....
Where has this been all my life? It's F-ing amazing! Who needs the upcoming Streets of Rage 4 when there's this?
One of the greatest video games ever. It's tough for me to even go back and play the original Genesis SoR games now. This just takes those to a whole other level.
true, i mostly go back to SOR2 for nostalgia and playing romhacks of it, but SORR scratches my beat em up itch way better.
Every word of praise is true but don't forget all the custom sprite work, especially Adam's! I was so happy to see him return in the SoR2/3 style. The SoR1-style-but-SoR2/3-size sprites for Axel and Blaze are just the cherry on top!
Yes, v4's Adam was mainly a SOR2 Axel edit, while v5's was more or less remade from scratch using SOR1 Adam as reference.
wow, I had heard of it but never saw it in action until now.
completely agree you, Sega needs to acquire this and put it out officially.
Thank you, and kudos to Bomberlink for all the coding.
This game is AWESOME, and probably one of the best examples of fans getting together and creating a playable love-letter to an amazing franchise. I spent a fair bit of time with this one, and it was just like you described; felt like playing that "SOR4" that we never got.
Thank you :)
You're very welcome, thank you for your nice comment ! :)
@@Shyning77 You worked on this absolute MASTERPIECE!? :0 If so, my god it is an honor!
I #Respect the Time you took with this and The Quality of it!!
Yessssssss! Been a massive fan of this project for a while. Well worth hunting down a copy!
Zobbster it is worth hunting down. But it’s hard to find since sega put the freeze on it. I have it and I keep it well backed up cause it’s just that priceless!
@@jonathanjr9505 Thanks, guys :)
The Star System was already in place in SoR3. Great review!
You are correct, but only after 10 years i have found out
The greatest Beat-Em-Up of all time, IMO. The speed, the gameplay, the music, the graphics, the replayability, the EVERYTHING. A masterpiece. \m/ \m/
Streets of Rage remake is freaking awesome! I had such a blast playing it. The verison I have everything is unlocked.
You can change the sprites of the characters to reflect which game you want. I always played as their SoR 1 counterparts.
SoR2 for me mostly but occasionally SoR1 - Never SoR3 though, ugly as sin.
I love this art Style way way more than what they are doing with streets of rage 4 =/... Also the music touch is incredible.
I love this game. I played this a though middle though high school and still till this day. I'm happy that this game is finally getting recognition.
A wider recognition, at least, because our game got a great reception among those who were aware it existed :)
The only reason I haven’t replayed this game is that i don’t want to become obsessed with SoR again. If SEGA were to take over/buy this project and port it to modern consoles and steam, this would easily be my new most played game ever.
I have this on my modded original Xbox. I get feels playing this on a console. I have yet to finish a whole playthrough but the quality of this remake is a 10/10
Finally a review that did this masterpiece justice. Thank you.
A new SOR Remake 5.2 just came out!
Impressive work the team did!
Thanks !
Best fangame there is, period.
AM2R might top it. That game is considerably better than Samus Returns.
Blazing Chrome has to be a contender.
And as a fan of Super Mario World I would also include the 100’s of SMW ROM Hacks that have been made over the past decade.
Yes, you're going to be bringing the pain in sor4!!
Monday Morning check out ultimate double dragon, you won’t be disappointed
Thanks, much appreciated :)
Best fanmade game I have ever played. Bar none.
Thanks, much appreciated :)
SORR is amazing. We have to thanks the guys behind it.
You're welcome :)
The fact that this is not recognized as a legit entity in the series hurts my heart. SO much time, effort, and love for this series is here, as a diehard fan of the series, this game was absolutely amazing for me. I would gladly pay for a legit physical release.
So many years and effort put in that fanmade game indeed.
Loved this game the first moment I played it, and the in-game music caused the hair on the back of my neck to stand up - still does.
Definitely one of my favorite fan made games. I've been enjoying SOR2 for as long as I can remember and the remake definitely was very faithful to the original. I don't want to give away the hidden characters but there was one in particular that I had so much fun with and never thought I would. Great recommendation!
This is my new favourite channel. I grew up a sega kid. Keep up the great work.
The star system was already in BK3
Yup, but now across 12 playable characters, most that weren't in BK3.
Yeah, and they were a pain to earn - at least in the US version. Dunno about the JPN version.
@@thefroyukenfiles3641 And later on you found out that it was unnecessary to earn them if you had a six button controller.
@RCP Pilot The fact that you could use the star moves with out earning them.
@Julio Cesar This.
I remember getting this back in the day, you can still find it but hurry up and do so, very much worth playing.
I love you for posting this. SOR is one of my favorite beat em ups ever. I can't believe I'm only discovering this now.
Got this on PC and OG Xbox (softmodded).
A passion project with Sonic Mania like effort put forth.
This is the most perfect fan made game!
Why, thank you ! :D
@Shyning77 Nah don't let it go to your head it is FAR from perfect. The main problem is that its so good it doesn't fit in with the p2w terrible games released today. The second major problem is that its waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy better than streets of rage 4. thank you
I didn't know this game existed. Good times ahead for me.
well this game came out like 5 years ago or longer. used to run it on original xbox
This looks AMAZING!!!!!
Old games had more passion in them. Now its all about microtransactions season passes and dlc.....
they were done by people who love games. not by people who want a 'career' in video games.
True that
It was a golden age for video games back in the early nineties.
@@hangemhighhilton True words spoken
SLAMMIN NEW INTRO!! Its really showing your growth as a content provider.
Always enjoy your videos, they are so well put together.
Thank you. Appreciate the comment. :)
Loving the new opening animation - best so far, they get better with each evolution.
If Sonic Mania can be recognized and made official by Sega, I see no reason whatsoever why this can't be as well. This game is exactly as you said...a labor of love, and it's just brilliant. It's not too late, Sega can still make this official someday I hope, maybe after SOR4 like you said.
Not without major tweaks. We ripped some graphics from games that aren't SEGA's IP.
If only someone from Sega watched your video, and realized how much love have been put in to this game.
I think they knew, because they waited for us to release our supposed final version to ask us to pull the project :(
Great review of a great game and an even greater remake!!!
My favorite game of all time is streets of rage 2
Thanks for your comment :)
Best opening yet! - great video as always!
That new intro looks pretty sweet. Although I kinda miss the old days with the baseball cap logo and Sega Lord X himself.
Same! Before the legion of subscribers 😅
Those were the days, I do miss those old videos
Awesome video. Didn't even know this was a thing but did some looking around and found it. Loaded it up on my arcads cabinet and its pretty amazing. Sega should've made this SofR 4 years ago 🤙🏾
big props for bringing this up Mr. X! (no pun intended :D) more people should know about this gem
P.S. fun fact: in the game's shop, if it's late night time on your system clock, then Blaze will be sleeping and there is a chance to steal some unlockable (or get caught trying)
I agree this was the best fan game I have ever seen or played. Simply Amazing
Thank you !
silly silly Sega.. instead of shutting them down they should have hired them.. no question about it!
What do you expect from people's whos ego is above anything else in life. IF they cant be solely responsible for bringing something "great" in the world and get all the attention from it, they want to destroy it instead. Its what is currently killing the AAA Market besides the gold standard of pure unadulterated greed.
SoRR is all over the internet. Sega just told them to stop working on it, they're not suing host sites.
These intro's just keep getting better...really appreciate your attention to detail and pushing higher production.
