The good thing about opening these is that you aren’t devaluing them. Most of them are only worth around $5-10 each carded because everyone hoarded them back in the day in mint condition hoping they’d be worth something in the future. Not the case when it’s extremely easy to find all of them in that exact shape.
I can’t believe The power of the force figures are almost 30 years old and sell for around 10 bucks in mint condition. I have been buying a bunch lately since they are so cheap.
Great video. It's refreshing to see collectors opening up their long kept collections and enjoying them. Nicely done and well reviewed. Love the close ups, makes you appreciate the work and lack of work, sometimes, that went into these figures. I couldn't agree more with your reviews on these figures. Look forward to more videos like this one.
Unpopular opinion: Not a big fan of keeping them packed. Like, what's the point of keeping them like that if i'm not a re-saler nor i can't pose them? Also, keeping the boxes would risk me to become a compulsive hoarder
That R2 definitely is supposed to have a retracting leg, it's probably just a little stuck due to its age. You can also see the little lever on the back of the leg that slots into the body.
Back in 95 those figs were really hot cuz we didn’t had anything else it was restarting I myself was collecting vintage figs and when I saw the potf2 figs I was happy i bought 2 of each so I can open one and leave one in the packaging (did that for the first wave) I still look at them as a collection might not be perfect like today’s figs but I don’t care they are star wars figures. Back then they were cheap 7$. (Canada) and there wasn’t any scalpers around aisles were full of those it was the good time to collect. Now a fig cost 25-27$ (canada) distribution suck lots of scalpers that killed the fun of collecting. Im now seeking the vehicules (falcon, tie and x-wing just for the fun of it since I have the original vehicules) The figs are still fun to have and I really don’t care what people say I collect for myself not for the next door neighbor. Versy nice video I just subscribed to your channel
I sent last Christmas some Black series that were mostly clearance but a few full boat retail, to a relative of mine in Canada. They said their kids had the best Christmas ever. That made me sad for the collectors and kids in Canada. Jeez.
Honestly these figures are awesome. They pioneered the translucid lightsaber, which is used from Legos to high-end statues. These were the first figures to be keen on costume details. And I must say that I always liked their buff aestethic. That way they become larger than life, much more stylized beyond any realism, and much closer to the buff superhero craze of the 90s - which I'm very fond of as well. All in all this toyline was made for me, it had awesome figures, great detail and cool ships as well, some of them 1st timers. I still army-build Stormtroopers and Rebel Fleet Troopers/Commandos with this line.
I love your take on it. Your point about lightsabers is especially good. I’m currently editing a video about the Epic Force figures, and I’m admiring the look of Luke’s lightsaber in this one.
@@justopenitalready Great, I'll check it when it comes out, I'm a HUGE fan of the Epic Force line. It was Black Series before there was any Black Series. Pretty much the first 6-inch Star Wars line. It's one of those unsung, forgotten lines which sadly that didn't get any traction among fans (perhaps the permanent base? The pre-posing?). I think that the Ben Kenobi, Han Solo, Darth Maul and Boba Fett figures in that line are particularly good in light of their good paint scheme and lively, dynamic poses. And it gave us a great 1st 6-inch Stormtrooper :)
Enjoyed your review, it is time to open up those figures from 1995 to 2005. Love the Leia figures and hope for more to de done in The Vintage Collection.
Nice clip. You're missing the rare blue strip freeze frame Hoth Leia. It was one of the final figures before Episode I, Flashback and Power of the Jedi series. It was basically a mail away exclusive with Hoth Leia, At-At Driver, a black Death Star Droid and one of the first new characters that they had never made before, Pote Snitkin. I was buying everything back then.
Oh, wow! I remember that Pote Snitken fig now that you mention it. I don’t recall if I ever got it. There were some I missed out on. Wish I had some close ups of that one. Thanks for commenting!
I remember when 'monkey-face' Leia and 'buff' Luke came out. What a bitter disappointment. Every character was ripped and in stupid poses. I dare anyone to try and get Han to stand up while holding his massive blaster pistol. After seeing what could be done with 3.75 inch figures like GIJoe, they really dropped the ball on this wave.
I remember purchasing that monkey man Leia figure based solely on having a complete set but that has to be the ugliest toy of all time. The sculptor really telephone in the job on the day they did this one. Its still in the package lol!
The power of the force figures were so laughably bad. I couldn’t imagine if Hasbro did that today where every character looks like they all went to the gym.
I was going to give my figures to my nephews. But I couldn't find any figures that were okay for a decent price. The first set would have been Vader, Luke, Han, Chewie. I don't know how Hasbro failed. Make the original series figures, including everyone you missed (original Rebel soldier, Tarkin, Owen and Beru (living)). Tatooine Luke, Vader, and Obiwan all have the newer saber types. Sell them directly off your website.
We will be moving soon so I am going to open about 120 figures from the clone wars-saga era. They take up 2 large Lowe’s boxes and I’ll set them up somehow when we get settled. It’s gonna be weird had some of them 20 years
That is an era from which I wish I had more figures. It was a slower collecting period for me financially. You should document and share the pics/video. I’d love to see those figures in their new home.
I wonder if the R2-D2 from that two-pack was intended to have the middle leg stuck in the down position. I forced mine into the body when I first bought that set. If I recall, it had a brown spot as if there was glue holding it in place.
Another commenter said that they were meant to retract, and speculated that mine might be a little stuck due to age. I haven’t gone back and forced it yet, but I think I will.
I was old enough to collect the Kenner figures when they first came out. Seeing these new SW figures in store, in the mid '90s, sort of brought on a nostalgia rush, but I found these figures to be mostly disappointing - nowhere as good as the 1978 - 85 Kenner SW lines. The new packaging was most definitely inferior to the classic Kenner SW cardbacks. The notorious "monkey face" Leia was one of the worst POTF2 figures produced - as ugly as the Kenner "big head" Han Solo figure. I did own a few of the better POTF2 figures (Bossk, Greedo, Hammerhead, etc). I'm happy to see the back of them - ugly figures and packaging. There's a good reason why these are going for so little (compared to vintage Kenner) on eBay.
Yeah, but you shouldn’t NEED to buy a stand to have your action figure...uh, stand...in the most basic neutral position. You’d think that someone signing off on each stage of production would have picked up the figure and noticed that it fell over every time they set it down, but QA is a hard job I guess. Anyhooo...rant over. Excellent review! Love the extreme close ups!
Some of them look rather cool. It's funny to see Leia's face from "Star Wars" on the packaging from figures that are from "The Empire Strikes Back" and "The Return of the Jedi".
POF was awesome! So 90's and well made too. These could take abuse. Everyone was so swole and Leia was so too heavy. I preferred the action fleet series because of screen accuracy and the playsets, but i did like POF.
What's crazy is I have so many potf figures thinking they'd be finds to sell to keep my habit of collecting going and people hate the line. I'm glad over time they stopped making them so BUFF, good video. ....creatine Leia lmao P.s. I cringed as you opened those perfectly carded figures. But I get it..I do
Anyone who says the POTF2 stuff is the worse has obviously forgotten about the Episode 2 figures, which were basically one-pose plastic statuettes. Many even had stupid "action faces" to further add to the cringe.
I’ll probably be opening up some of those Ep 2 figures when I come across them in my containers. I remember buying several of them on clearance at Toys R Us.
I opened up a box with a mail away Force Ghost Obi-Wan in my first video and noticed it had a bit of a tacky feeling. Someone commented that they had opened figures that had been stored in their hot attack and they also had that feeling. You might have noticed that the glue from the tape on some of the weapons in this video had come off and coated parts of the weapons, but that was a whole different type of sticky from what I experienced with that Obi-Wan figure. Sort of related, I think, but I've encountered a little yellowing of one of the figures blister packs. I'm finishing off this container soon and then moving on to another one in several weeks. I imagine I'll encounter some more of these different issues.
Let's recall the steroid era. --my name for it-- of Star Wars figures. A time where greed won the day. This fact is marked by the fact Kenner/Hasbro remade the figures but not the ships. The Falcon was the same moulds from '77, but the new Chewie could not fit in the cockpit.
If I’m thinking back correctly, my mother probably helped me pick so many of these up for that reason. She was also crazy for beanie babies. But the truth is, I just liked them hanging on my wall. I’d have a hard time parting with them, I think.
I’m very tempted to grow my POTF collection. It’s so much more obtainable. I love the Black Series, but those are getting harder and harder to manage. Thanks for commenting.

That's when they still made figures for kids not collectors you can tell by the price. And this was after a long hiatus of no new figures since 85'

I’m tempted to buy some more myself. Maybe acquire some of the ones I never picked up back then. Much more economical than collecting newer figures.

I thought that might be the case. Thanks for letting me know.
I got that two-pack when it was still in stores, and I had to force in the leg. It was almost like it was glued in the down position.
The older one gets, the more difficult it is to get the third leg to extend...
I'm happy to see that Monkeyface Leia's cape got repurposed for the brand new TVC Krennic.
I saw that too! Gonna have to do a comparison maybe.
