    Dear Ralph! My name is Thomas. Besides my day job I am in music production. Yesterday I received my 2600 Blue Marvin and I want to stress that without your video tutorials I most probably would have sent it back to the big t meanwhile. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I got caught in each and every trap around for a bloody 2600 beginner as me. However, after watching many of your videos (some still on my to do list) I have started to manage the beast. And what a great beast it is. I fell in love immediately. And you enabled me to even patch my first two sounds (Kinda proud of it LOL). A snappy bass and the other one is a sound that you most probably would not be able to patch on an original ARP 2600 namely an organ using sine waves from OSC 2 & 3. In one of the videos you invited us to share patches, How am I supposed to do this?

    • @RalphBaumgartl
      @RalphBaumgartl  2 года назад +5

      Hello Thomas, thank you very much for your valuable feedback! It's highly appreciated!
      One of my main goals is to show absolute beginners that there's nothing wrong with their new 2600 Synths, but rather a matter of just learning the Synthesizer!
      I am so glad that you are using my tutorials to learn the 2600 Synthesizer. Regarding how to share some patch ideas: Just write a few sentences. Most people who have some experience with the 2600 will figure out what you mean. And those people who don't understand it yet, can watch my tutorials first ;-) Wishing you lots of fun with your 2600 Synth.
      Greetings, Ralph

      @@RalphBaumgartl Hi Ralph, I’m currently saving up for a Behringer 2600. I already have 3 Korg polysynths and the B2600 has been on my radar for a couple of years now. Time to jump in deep and learn all the sound mangling possibilities I think. Please can I ask you if you know of any way that the Release time in the AR or ADSR can be made longer?
      I’m probably going to want to make long releasing pads and other ambient drones that will benefit from long releases.
      That is one concern I have about this synth in terms of is it right for me…. I think I’ll still get it even if it’s not possible to make release times longer. I love what possibilities this synth can produce. I hope you’re well 👍😃

      @RalphBaumgartl  Год назад +1

      @@rickhopkinson Hello Rick, I personally I believe that the release time of the AR/ADSR of the B2600 is sufficiently long enough. But you can also use the initial gain and VCF/Mixer settings to somehow prolong the sound. Dabble with these sliders and see how close you get to your sound ideas. Cheers, Ralph

    I really appreciate the videos. I have a lot of synth experience, but my Blue Marvin arrives this Thursday and I wanted to learn the ins-and-outs of the 2600 before it arrives. I think I've now watched all your tutorials and at least know how to get/get rid of a drone note (with the initial gain!). Very helpful and thank you for making these. (And I learned that OSC 1 is the master for the sync on both OSC2 and OSC3. The SYNC switches are unlabeled so I couldn't figure out what OSC was syncing to what other OSC!)
    Concerning the Envelope follower - my understanding is this is just and AMPLITUDE follower. It doesn't care about pitch of the input signal, just volume. The CV produced doesn't represent the input PITCH, just the input VOLUME envelope.
    It seems that running env follower through the LAG processor would produce a smoother, more usable envelop.
    Thanks again, these are very helpful

    Sensei. I have never even tried to use that, and now I'm going to go crazy with it. Is this how to get the robot voices (outside of the vocoder method)? when you were mixing your voice with the synth , it sounded like there were a lot of possibilities . You can run a drum trigger into the preamp (x10 range, max gain) and take the env follower out to the AR Gate's In. The env follower out can also go into the VCA's EXP In for a different effect, or even through the ring mod, which can add a nice sizzle to the end of a drum. With Preamp gain at 1000X, if you feed the Env Follow Out to the AR Gate and take the ADSR Out to an inverter in the Voltage Processor, and output that to a VCA Control In, you can get a passable sidechain 'duck'.

    If you connect a guitar to the envelope follower and Route the cv out to the Filter opening and close you can use it just like a Autowahpedal😉 but you can Input a Bass drum do shape it with the Filter etc. a real drum can be shaped nicely, you can add noise to a snaredrum etc.

    I've just ordered one of these Behringer 2600 on the strength of your tutorials
    It should be interesting as I used an original thirty years ago which
    I thought it was a bearly controllable monster, raw, rough and gloriously rude .
    I always thought the cross modulation was better than a Prophet 5 but that's a very risky thing to say in polite company.
