The reason why I listen to you is because of your integrity and being as good as you can. You have also built a safe community. I feel like I can comment and have a voice in sports as a woman. I also love Studio Stu. It’s just as good or even better than watching the Dodo. Something as simple as kindness is missing in so many places but not yours. Donnie, you are a great addition. Keith, Trevor and Donnie - as corny as it sounds - please continue being a light in an otherwise bleak world.
Sports media developed on local radio stations, done by locals. Corporations bought all the radio stations and ruied it. They took this organically developed concept, put it on ESPN and the like, and turned it into arguing and ridiculousness. Now sports media is selling as hard as home shopping channels. Unwatchable.
The first segment discussion is on point (I’m only at this point) about all people want is negativity. Online, Many fans make fun of Jayson Tatum for “being corny” because that’s the easiest thing to draw some dopamine from since. They want to be able to feel superior to the athletes, want to feel like they have something to ridicule them about rather than praise them. It’s an ugly truth with no solution I can see
Great topic! I appreciate Donnie's informed comments on the short attention span in this time period. I was disappointed to see Zac Lowe go. ESPN showed that they are looking for controversy instead of content.
I think it’s important for this channel to continue to put out content pieces like this from time to time. It’s an interesting discussion that will low engagement compared to the normal basketball content, but if these videos are uploaded along with the videos that do well in the algorithm, I’m sure there will be some viewer carry over. As the channel grows, the better the numbers will become in the long run.
We have a lot of people who don't know sports, never played, and only worried about bussines , in the media wanting other than what sports realy bring. They want the wow and OHs and trash talk. They take out sportsmanship and the art of the game.
What's basically "wrong" with sports media is practically capitalism. I mean, what sells? If these types of wrong is being consistently consumed and engaged in, that is something right for the principalities.
I'm at about 13 minutes in the video. I very much appreciate the topic. Two things come to mind: 1. As you were talking about how the sports opinions have to be clippable, it struck me that this is how politics has operated for a long time. What has happened to our feelings about politicians in the last 30 plus years? We are not sure that what they are saying is a genuine sentiment. In a fuzzy way, sports and politics are trying to represent us, both locally and in the broad sense. The way things are now, if there is any opinion at all that will stir conversation and add energy to your cause, it will be projected. 2. In regards to hot take culture. One of the tragedies of this and one thing that we should bear in mind is that there are plenty of good sports writers out there. Some percentage of them feel the pressure and, to make a living, bend to hot take ideology (and their work suffers.) I only say this so that we don't just castigate the whole field of sports journalism. So as we rail against this movement, we do so more against its application, less in demonizing all of the people that are doing it. As with most things, given a little time, we pretty much know who the bad apples are. Pressing play . . .
Also.. let's not forget, that the same "embarrassing" play, as it may be for 1 player, might also be a career/contract defining highlight/moment for the other player!🤷🏽♂️
Over the years, the "debate" shows have gotten too comfortable with reporters -(Nick Wright), being disingenuous, for viewership! People are tired of being fed narratives, agendas & clickbait, disguised as content. Players now, are telling their own stories, & it's not their responsibility to make sure that reporters have a story to tell, to satisfy their bosses!
It’s not so much the viral clips themselves but the discourse they generate. All surface snark, diss emojis, hater/glazer name calling. Low level playground banter dominates the commentary.
People watch.. emphasis on..👀, hoping to see highlight plays!!! Someone getting dunked-on, or crossed over/embarrassing plays are what sells!! Stories being told by those who are in the locker room-(former players), are becoming more accessible, which basically makes the traditional reporters less important!
I mean yeah sports media sucks because its focuses on entertainment rather than the actual sport. Its all about hot takes and narratives. That's how it goes these days. Its basically the same as the actual news which is also useless
I'm surprised you didn't talk about the negativity of pointing out the players who don't get selections for various awards and teams like all nba, all star, and more recently, the Olympic team.
I refuse to watch Screaming A or the other race baiters , Cali cheerleaders on ESPN or the reporters that ignored the Jokic effect in both NBA & European ball. Lousy & biased refs, rewarding floppers & foul grifters while turning Bb into 3 pt & FT shooting contests . Appearance of fixed games by phantom fouls on European stars removed from games. I now only watch specific teams & players
Lets not act like Lakers Nation wasnt click baiting every single insignificant things about the Lakers this summer from bronny to every time an ex-lakers makes a negative comment. LN took a negative turn this summer.
We cover every aspect of the team and have for YEARS. What was out there this summer was largely negative. Would much prefer the team to make great moves, win games, and have positive stuff to talk about
I think with sports media there’s a lot of analyst fatigue. Stephen A Smith gives takes that any die hard fan can do. What I expect is to be informed/educated on the game. That’s why I like player given takes where they break down what happened. I don’t enjoy hot takes at all. It’s very easy to read, these analyst don’t seem genuine. It’s not WWE, they feel like characters
The media destroys themself because of clout and hot take culture They are popular or significant because of basketball and yet they are the destroying basketball or players up to the point fans dosent respect NBA anymore. It seems that media feels they are above the NBA Example "IF YOU DONT HAVE CHAMPIONSHIPS, YOU'RE A BUM" I remember in the 90s or early 2000s all players have great fan base. Even me as a teenager that time I'm a TMAC fan. I have his shoes, NBA cards, jersey etc. Can you imagine puttings TMAC career in this era? Cant get past 1st round? Multiple injuries? No championships etc? He will be killed and yet everyone idolize him befofe and they wear TMAC shoes more than Kobes. Even VC, AI have great fan base because as long as you're good at basketball thats enough. Now? Even Lebron who have a case of being a GOAT is treated like a bum I even collect NBA cards of other all star players. Barkley, Malone, Miller, Stockton to Michael Redd, Webber, etc Now if you ask teenagers o even adults? Lebron is a bum or anyone who dosent win championship is nothing
Yea but then also the problem with some "Independent media" is you guys have Favorite teams and aren't always OBJECTIVE about things and show biases towards certain teams.. so I think it's negatives on BOTH sides imo🤷🏿♂️
Which is why do our best to be transparent about our own bias. I prefer that over trying to be unbiased and having personal preferences creep into analysis, even if unintentionally. To each their own, of course. To find someone truly unbiased, that didn’t grow up with a passion for the sport they are covering, is difficult I think
@@TheBasketballBulletin I mean you were dogging Russ when the Nuggets first started struggling with him. Now when they started winning, now you’re just crickets.

Don't hate the player, hate the game. I don't like top 10's or the short embarrassing crap, or the hot takes, so I don't watch em. I don't criticise those who watch that stuff either (to each their own), and I certainly don't blame content creators for following the views. The only version of those vids I watch are the instant karma ones. I do love trash talkers or dirty players get what they deserve haha. The channels I DO dislike are those new AI ones that pop up all the time now, with ULTRA HOT TAKES, and that more often than not say crap that is obviously not true, they just want you to click the link. Stop supporting those channels and they'll stop being produced, at least on the scale they are now. Simple.
I give my genuine opinion. You may disagree with that opinion but you know how I truly think. How do I try to get others to follow that opinion though? Because i state my opinion publicly? That’s part of my job.
The best part of the being a laker fan is venting on our own teams failure than its success 💯 hate gets more views for a longer period of time. Winning is cool but such short lived. What I hate is how all of this has influence people online to think that if you don't agree with them you must be new to this - a "casual".
It’s a way to be dismissive without actually presenting a counter point. It is indeed annoying
All they do is talk about how a random unfollow from lebron is a headline from ESPN
"I just witnessed Jalen Green END Cade...live on TV". That's the notification I just saw from another popular RUclipsr as I was watching this 🤔

Glad you liked it!
In a nutshell, sports media turned into tabloid sports - basically troll publications.
I’m just glad that the NBA has returned to NBC starting next season and what they should do next is to bring back NBA inside stuff.
Sports media is awful today. Due to player podcasts, social media post, etc.
Stephen a ruined sports media and anyone that thinks it’s players/ex-players ruining it are plain stupid
