I was about to order one of these and thankfully heard about all the problems they're having. Loose magnets in the motors, brake discs warping because they're not heat treated, just basically shitty build quality and on top of that a two month wait to get one. I ended up buying a Freesky Swift Horse and it'll hit 40 mph no problem and I won't have to rebuild the motor after 50 miles. I tried to have correspondence with Wired and after I mentioned the loose magnet and other problems, they wouldn't return any other questions I had. Good luck with that thing buddy, I wish you the best.
The earlier models (like mine) had motor issues. I fixed the motor. Better than stock now. I understand your hesitation. You're definitely not hitting 40mph on flat with 48v, 32max. Volts are what determine speed.
Kepler does 38+ and has 1K watt bafang with 2K max draw. Well made also. The shunt solder method is better done by paralleling a power resister alongside the shunt after measuring the shunts resistance, done responsibly, you can slightly lower overall resistance for a consistent value.
{{3}} That's a solid lineup of customizations for the Wired Cruiser! Great job on personalizing it to your own preferences. I took off the fenders first thing, too. Don't really need the front fender since the water will strike the frame, and if you keep a bag or basket on the rack you don't need the rear. Then they don't interfere with my car bike rack, either. Granted, it was a pain to remove the rear fender - you have to deflate the rear tire to get an allen wrench in there unless you remove the tire.

I laugh at trails that say class 2 only on an ebike - I have a Ride1Up mountain bike and still average about 5 mph on anything above the easiest trails. I go slower on the ebike as opposed to my old Prophet mountain bike since it had an excellent suspension unlike any ebike under $5000.
