How lucky to get clear days for the most mountainous parts. I've been to Skye many times and many times I have seen nothing but grey clouds! Another trail added to my ever growing bucket list. Thank you for making the video.
Fantastic video - glad you enjoyed the Skye Trail... What an adventure! Pity about the conditions on the Trotternish as that would/could have been a highlight, but glad they improved through Glen Sligachen. Anyone thinking of doing the route should try not to miss Loch Coruisk and a potential climb up Sgurr Na Stri. Will add a bit of time and difficulty but is a shame to miss out these highlights. There's never enough time to be on Skye... 😊
It was definitely one of my best ever through-hikes, despite the mixed weather. My companion wasn’t too happy about the Bad Step, which ruled out the Loch Coruisk option, and the Elgol-Torrin section was grim. But the scenery is amazing
Just watching this second time around Charles. Did the trail in the past week, very mixed weather and I agree that you would struggle to do it without wild camping. I pushed too hard though and did it in 5 days and destroyed my feet 😂
I've been toying with idea of doing this: recently completed west highland way so your video has been a great eye opener. Realistic days walking with camping seemingly essential. Great video & thoughtfully done!
Most importantly, avoid midges season - late May onwards - as they are notoriously bad on Skye. Otherwise it’s just a matter of luck with the weather. But Skye is heavily booked up in April and May, so get your accommodation sorted out well ahead!
We decided to give it a miss; neither of us is good with heights (the cliffs north of Elgol were bad enough!), and my companion has a compromised left arm, which would have made it extra challenging. Perhaps another time, eh?
fabulous video, really enjoyable watch. I knew the place was a bit magical but had no idea that it was quite so ... Tolkein-esque? Also very happy to see that LanShan holding up so well in quite difficult conditions. It really is an extraordinary tent. Thanks for making this, gave me lots of ideas for my own walks!! 45 minutes well spent!
Thanks!! I hope my enjoyment came through. I totally agree about the Lanshan - it was lighter and more spacious than my friends Hilleberg Soulo, and a fraction of the cost 🙂
I had the Cicerone guide book. But there may be a better one; it had lots of background information, but was short of details on some sections of the Trail, and is a few years out of date now
I would say that the Skye Trail is a good taste of the Cape Wrath Trail; especially between Flodigarry and Portree, and the section between Sligachan and Elgol. The main difference is that the Cape Wrath Trail has a LOT more big ascents & descents, so plenty of training is essential and will make all the difference to enjoying the experience. Nevertheless, the CWT was the trip of a lifetime; go for it!

Thanks. We had our share of bad weather, but each day was different; a fantastic trail
Epic! Got to love skye most beautiful place in the world
Can’t argue with that. Stunning scenery. The stuff I saw between the rain clouds was, anyway 😃
Most beautiful place in the world, obviously never been to Lochgelly
Wonderful video. We also did the Skye trail in may and enjoyed every minute!
Thanks! I’m glad that you enjoyed it too 🙂

Congratulations on doing it in 5 days! That’s a great achievement 🙂
How were the midges?? 😆

Thanks 🙂. It’s a great trail; just be prepared for all types of weather!!
@@longsufferinghiker I can imagine, seeing all that hail when u woke up. When would you recommend best time of year for Skye?

Very interesting and well done!
Thanks! It was definitely one of my best ever :-)
@@longsufferinghiker Have you ever crossed "The bad step" slightly off the trail? Too scary for me, I don't like heights.

Well done mate, good trail vid 👍 I did the Skye Trail and made my own vids. It was awesome, inspiring and magical! Subbed 👍Justin
Thanks Justin :-)
I agree that the Skye Trail is one of the best in the UK: awesome scenery!
I am hoping to do this hike this year with the border collie , what guide book did you use. Enjoyed the vid btw looks great

Were some sections similar in difficulty to cape wrath? I did skye trail last year in 6 days and now I am thinking about cape wrath
