I think it is kind of adorable that he manages to fluster himself. Like, even though he recorded those lines, and did the mocap, having it directed at himself gave him flutters.
In all fairness, he recorded hundreds and hundreds of lines over 4 years, while he remembers some really clearly I bet there must be some lines that he's forgotten and it's like hearing them for the first time!
As much as Neil had Bow'ee feeding Astarion (and Neil not knowing about the renewal spell Astarion could have placed on her after each feeding to counter the buff), it's a wonder she had any energy for a vigorous sexy time tussle in the forest 😂
Awkwardness aside, I think he's reacting that way because like he and Tom said, it's a really sad scene when you know the context of the character. That he's scared, and thinks the only way to ensure his safety is if he gives his body away to Tav. I felt very guilty playing this scene when I did, but I picked a dialogue option I didn't see pop up for many people, and I think it's the best possible response: If you pick "What gave it away?" --> "I only did it so you could get stronger," he's like "and look how well it worked!" and says that you should be rewarded in turn, and Tav can say "you shouldn't be doing this just because you 'owe' me something," and he replies "oh, that's hardly the only reason, more of an excuse really." I really like that there's an option that Tav is aware/acknowledges that this feels like a weird transactional thing.
I'm also heartbroken (but appreciate) that after you do romance him, the next morning there's an option something like "did you like that? you seemed very far away," and he writes it off as he was holding himself back. But it's an amazing hint to the fact that he disassociates whenever he's in those encounters. It's something that's explicitly said by the narrator in a clip I saw where you have him sleep with the drow twins, something along the lines of he's "doing everything flawlessly/magnificently, but you look into his eyes and he's a million miles away." It makes me so sad ;_;
all good points, but since tom knows nothing about the game/story, & he's just a friend of neil's who was playing this for the first time, i believe he was just teasing neil, & referring to it being 'sad' seeing neil flirting with himself essentially, at least that seems to be the case if you see tom's reactions to all of neil's interactions with his own character in this entire playthrough

omg I never picked “what gave it away” -> “I only did it to make you stronger” and that you can in fact recognise it being transactional! need to check that asap because I haven’t seen in a video how it looks and sounds
I need those other armors and clothes, having trouble finding the right mods. And now I want to change my PC to a druid, my sorcerer isn't doing so well in the game. And I didn't get that dialogue either (at least not yet).
