But genuinely my mom showed me werwolves before I was in kindergarten so werewolves have always been my favorite. I’ll go out of my way sometimes to watch a single episode of a foreign show because I’ve heard it has a decent werewolf in it. From the budget films with shitty masks that are just downright awful to 80s, 90s, to present day I’ve watched just about all of them. Still gotta say van helsing is my favorite picturing of the body type of a werewolf but, underworld: rise of the lycans is a super super close second because it’s cgi and practical effects taking place in a time where there were no guns makes them just that scarier since you have to use swords and arrows. A good werewolf just truly needs to have an elongated snout and stand on just hind legs. None of the twilight dire wolf looking bs. Only movies I can really name that can pull the flattened face off are the original and remake of the wolf man purely because that was how they intended it based off the original.
End of violently stoned werewolf rant (p.s. the difference in amount of werewolf movies and shows compared to vampires just makes me feel like no one else really wants more like me☹️ )

If I'm not mistaken, they faced each other quite a few times in the lore starting with Bram Stoker's book. But what I found interesting is that in a way, they're similar. The left and right hand of God and all of that stuff. I really liked the look of Van Helsing's werewolf form too. He looked so badass and mean. Loved it when he sharpened his claws at one point.

Van Helsing character originated from Bram Stoker's Dracula, the most influential vampire fiction ever written. Which goes without saying, you should react to the movie as well!
This a rare genre combining elements of steampunk/gothic, fantasy, and action/adventure. The other movie similar to this that I can think of is 'Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters' (starring Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton!). The movie kinda went under the radar but if you guys like guns, that movie is a steampunk guns galore 😂 It's fkin awesome.

This movie is such an underrated classic. Ratings for it aren't great, but it's very much like A Knight's Tale- One of my guilty pleasures. So much fun to watch.
Bit of a lore drop here: Gabriel is supposed to be an archangel... Or maybe just angel (I forgot), who became mortal to join the Holy Order and fight Evil. He became close friends with Vladislaus Dragulia, who was also a brother of the Order. They go to the underworld and manage to kick loads of unholy ass, and form a huge bond there. Vlad ends up forsaking his order by choosing love, breaking celibacy, and the order didn't like it, so they arranged for them to be separated, but it lead to an accident, killed Vlad's woman, and he gets mad. He makes a pact with the devil and raises her from the dead, which is where the Order tasks Gabriel with killing Vlad. Take this all with a grain of salt since I've not seen this in a long while.
It's a freaking rollercoaster of a story, and I'm glad you dudes enjoyed it as much as you did!

This is a great movie, I loved watching this growing up (and I still do). I wish they made a sequel to this movie, even a reboot (just to see these specific characters again and explore its lore more). And while there is a Van Helsing series on Netflix, it actually has nothing to do with this movie. Something I love about this movie is its lore (like I mentioned earlier), we see that Van Helsing is the Archangel Gabriel (that is why Dracula called him both Gabriel and the Left Hand of God). And he is actually very old despite his appearance, I am curious to know when Van Helsing became human (which I assume is when he lost his memories) because if he became human right before or after he killed Dracula the first time (when Dracula was human) then Van Helsing doesn't age, but if he became human recently before the events of this movie then that might make a little more sense. Maybe that's why he became human, to help Anna (one of the last of her family) kill Dracula so her and her family can finally enter heaven (he just couldn't remember that after he became human, maybe because as an ancient Archangel he would have a massive number of memories that maybe his human mind couldn't handle). Also, it's weird (and gross) that Dracula tried to make Anna (one of his decedents) his bride, I get that he probably came from a time in which marrying distant relatives was acceptable, but it's still gross. Regardless, this is still a great movie, and I would still like to see you guys react to other werewolf movies, like; "Wolfman" (the 1941 and the 2010 versions), "An American Werewolf in London 1981," "Wolf 1994", and "Werewolf of London 1935." "Dracula Untold 2014," "Bram Stoker's Dracula 1992," and "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein 1994" would also be great movies to see you guys react to as well.

This movie was an underrated gem in my opinion! I loved this growing up, and it still holds up even now! I never felt like it was over the top even as a kid. Many movies are over the top really, so if anything, that's pretty normal. The combination of all your classic monsters and van helsing was just really cool to watch. I put this up there with The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen when it comes to underrated monster classics (if you've never seen that movie by the way, then I highly recommend watching it). This is also my favorite Dracula and werewolf design by far. I'm glad you guys liked the transitions as much as I did. Frankenstein's monster was also pretty good too. Man the more I think about, the more I feel like it shoulda got a sequel for real!
I've never watched the series, but I'm pretty sure its not like this movie at all. It definitely would work well though as a series if they do it like this movie. Maybe they can reboot it or something. I also never knew the critic reviews were so bad for this movie. I feel like critics sometimes forget to just have fun. It wasn't meant to be a super serious, Oscar winning movie. I guess that explains why it didn't get a sequel though. 😢

Watched this movie when I was a kid. Funnily enough, this was my introduction to Hugh Jackman and all the legends of Dracula, Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Hyde. Which really helped me as an English major. Loved the visual effects and their style of filming. What was the Netflix they were talking about? It is not available in my area

I recommend you guys check out The Last Witch Hunter and I,Frankenstein. Both of them are, in my opinion at least, very good modern monster movies. Might be worth checking them both out.

If you want to watch more there’s a follow up film “Van Helsing: The London Assignment”. It’s an animated film with a story set before the events of this film and it primarily focuses on what happens between Van Helsing and Mr Hyde/ Dr Jekyll.

Dwergi. No idea about Romanian myths but seeing as they are shown as dwarf artificers here i got to chime in. Originally in Swedish myths there are the early stories of Alfr (elves) and even mentioned a king of Goetaland being married to one of their daughters. Then there is a folk that lives in mountain caves and tunnels called dwergar. They more or less are dwarves as known today in Anglo-Saxon myths and in germanic myths. Notice also the linguistic connection, dwergar , dwarves in German are Zwerge then in English dwarves. In DnD games duergar are a subspecies of dwarves living deeper than the rest and are evil. Also according to some seems the whole myth about a shorter , stockier, and more resistent and often quite hairy when it comes to facial hair humanoid are derived from a lengthy struggle between homo sapiens sapiens and homo neanderthals who were shorter, more muscular, hairier...etc and this struggle lasted millenia leaving traces in myths.

One of my favorite Halloween movies. This movie was supposed to launch Universals “Monster Verse” but it did poorly. Because of this, the concept was killed. They tried again with the (newer) mummy movie, but it failed again. Their intent was to create a new era of monster films. But the movies did not perform well enough for them to keep going.

Funny that you ask for a series, because in the book what the movie is based off, the medicine did not remove the curse or gift of lycanthropy. It just made Van Helsing able to control the werewolf form at will. Without the feral tendencies that come with it.

Love this movie. Yes, I tried absinthe before. Have to follow the instructions how to make it, not bad :D
P.S. I think the score of this movie might be sabotaged, just like companies buy scores for movies to make more money and look better now a days with Disney and Marvel movies. Because I see everyone everywhere saying how they liked Van Helsing. So, somethings not wright.
AND I don't believe that they could do better job today with this movie, quite the opposite actually.

One of my fave Halloween/vampire-werewolf movies. It came out when I was in the 6th grade and I had the entirety of the film memorized (yes I liked it that much). So glad you gentlemen enjoyed it too! Also you might not have noticed with the prosthetics but Igor is played by the same actor who played Benny from the Mummy (still an annoying twerp in this film haha)
