Swarf in the sump from doing this is not going to harm your engine. Anything that is able to get through the sieve would be tiny fragments of aluminium which will not harm the hardened steel faces of the oil pump. There is all sorts of crap floating around in most engines. This is why we have a strainer and a filter. The strainer just protects the pump.
God man.... You cant trust that no swarth went into that sump.. That sump is not that thick so you haven't got many threads... wish you all the luck in the world
This is a tried and tested method of achieving an oil return. Many hours of research was done beforehand. Any fragments left behind will need to get through the sieve on the pick up and those small enough to make it through will get trapped by the oil filter. Anything larger is unlikely to be picked up off of the floor of the pan. Many have run for years without problems using this arrangement on the BP engine.
@@shiftcounty I'm glad to hear it's tried-and-tested I personally as an engine builder for 35 years it just makes me cringe... between the pickup pipe and the oil filter is the oil pump... just hope it doesn't damage that..
It's been done many times by many people. I have done it on my car as well that's lasted 2 plus years without having any oil leaking problems nothing and my friends have done it the same way as well
Nice one, its good to see someone who is not confident doing it with success!
