Long fasting always walk, get up slowly like Tai chi, and STRETCH. Bonus? 5lb dumbells! Fast or feast or bodybuilding with heavy weight? I swear by light weights and calisthenics too.
Training for my first marathon and still have plenty of weight to lose so its a bit of a juggle with extended fasts 😬 tried to run on the second day of the recent 48hour fast and was so heavy and lethargic 😔
Thanks Doc! This is truly useful. Maybe I missed it but what should you break your fast with if you want to lose excess fat? You mentioned how to break it if you don't want to lose weight.

I just started fasting 16:8 and I break my fast at 12pm usually. Then I workout around 12:30-1pm. I do my full body strength training during this time and I have noticed I’m not as strong right now and it’s harder to get through my sets. I’m hoping this will get better in time!
@DrMindyPelz I am doing a water fast for the first time. 8 hours away from breaking it. I can't believe I did it. Wasn't clear from watching this video ,should I have exercised while doing 36 hours. Clear it's good while doing 13 and 17 hour fast, but not sure about 36 hours
Congratulations on your accomplishment! During a longer fast, like 36 hours, it's generally recommended to listen to your body. Some people feel energized and choose light exercise like walking, while others prefer rest. It's essential to ensure you're not pushing yourself too hard and to stay hydrated. Always consult with a healthcare professional about your specific situation.
Love your videos! - what about breaking fast after exercise with fats, protein and carbs such as your protein shake in your FLG book? And- if we want to stay in autophagy we need to stay below 20g of protein, 50 g of carb and 60% fat - so is that enough protein to rebuild muscle and enough carbs to replenish glycogen stores for endurance sports? Thanks!
Generally when doing longer fasts like 24hrs and up we should not be incorporating strenuous exercise, but shorter fasts 12-16hrs we can incorporate the more intense exercises? And we SHOULD eat AFTER a workout??
I have a question. I’m a little confused. I been working out at the 17 hr fast. I workout every other day. I do my weight lifting and my cycling. Both of them I do 30 min then I break my fast with broth then wait 30m, probiotics (Sauerkraut, Kimchi and avocado). wait 30m . Then steam vegetable. wait 30m. Last protein. I do it with all my fast. Should I change only in my workout break my fast with protein? And then broth, probiotics, steam vegetables? Love your videos 😊 Elys
Did you say fat broke the fast? I thought just protein or sugar did? I am avid 17-19 hour autophagy faster 6 days per week, feast my 7th day. Late I have been making the bulletproof coffee with ghee in morning and it see.s to help me with morning cardio but I don't want to do it if its breaking my fast??
I usually fast 6pm until 10-11am. I exercise @ 5:00am. Is it ok to wait until 10-11am to eat first? Or should I be eating protein and breaking my fast earlier since I’m exercising?
I am on day one of IF and timing with coming out of fast would be before my typical workout time (I can only get to the gym at noon or sometimes not even until after 5pm). Will I not see benefits? What would you advise? Thanks! I’m excited!
Dr. Mindy!! Thank you fir all the great information. I normally do 18-24 hr. Fast and I typically only eat dinner. I workout with weight around 5 am then work all day. I currently weight 133 lbs. My goal is to get to 125 lbs. I’m 5.7”. I want to see muscle definition while losing those stubborn pounds. Should I do things different or do you think I’m on the right track? Please help
Mindy I love love love your videos. I have been working out in a fasted state for a few years and I prefer it for sure. Question: I still have stubborn belly fat and am trying to shed another 15-20lbs. For weight loss how long after a workout should you break your fast. I tend to work out at 7am and then break my fast at 2pm. Is this ok?
If i want to loose weight . And i am breaking my fast at 11 am and i am doing exercise at 9 am . Should i break my fasting with protein and carbs or fat? Or when should i exercise? Is 2 hours before breaking my fast exercising good?
Not sure if you are still checking comments since this is an older video but I am trying to understand better how to IF and exercise early in the morning. I want to IF from dinner to a late breakfast the next day but I workout (an hour, sometimes mostly weights sometimes cardio mixed in) at 5am. That would only give me about 10 hours of fasting if I have something afterwards. I want to lose fat but also build muscle so I'm not sure if I should have some protein right after my workout or continue to fast????
To optimize both fat loss and muscle building while incorporating intermittent fasting and early morning workouts, you can either extend your fasting window and have a later breakfast or consume a post-workout meal that includes protein and carbohydrates to support muscle recovery. Experiment and listen to your body to find the approach that works best for you.
I need help with a crazy question. Firstly, 11 years ago I had gastric bypass and I got to 14 stone from 23 stone. I've slowly gone to 18 stone. Will intermittent fasting help me too? I am struggling right now, type 2 diabetes and I feel like ive failed myself big time.
Do you have to break a fast after your workout? I fast from 8 or 9pm until 12 or 1pm the following day. I run or do strength in the morning. I want to feed my muscles post-workout but I don't want to break my fast until later in the day. What should I do?
It's important to stay hydrated during fasting to support your body's functions. Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the fasting period to stay well-hydrated. If you're experiencing headaches, it could be related to dehydration or other factors. If the issue persists, consider adjusting your electrolyte intake or consulting a healthcare professional for personalized guidance.

Thank you! So I get that it is okay, even great, to exercise in a fasted state, but my question is about how long after exercise should we be breaking our fasts? For example if ii exercise between 6:00 and 7:00 am but I am not set to break my fast for 4-5 hours after that, is that okay? Or will it cause too much stress to wait that long to eat?
Alison-Just from my experience, I have been doing IF for 3 yrs now, a 60year old female, and have always exercised between 5-6:30 am in the fasted state, and do 18-20 hrs. of IF each day. So I break my fast around 11 am or noon, depending on the day, and have been doing just fine. Doesn't cause too much stress at all on my body. You would just need to make it a routine, and then it will be second nature for you.
@@sunshinestateadventures63 What a great routine you have going, Debra! 🙌🏽 I'm a 53 yr old female and have been IF 4+ yrs now. I'm now at the point of #omad and I can effortlessly water-only fast for 20-24 hrs, daily. My weekday schedule has me exercising typically around the 19 to 23 hour of IF. Weekends, I exercise at about 12-16 hrs into my fast. Of course, I'm flexible.. should I need to break my fast sooner for an occasion etc Love it! 😉
@@sunshinestateadventures63 Thanks for that insight! I wonder if it matters if I am still menstruating and in my childbearing years? I have done it a few times and felt okay, but other times I feel too fatigued.
@@generationx9294 sounds like you have a great routine going also. I am working towards water fasting only at least once a week for 24 hrs. You're doing great!
@@alisonfriend I think it makes a difference. I would say listen to your body and when you start feeling weak or tired, break your fast. Just my opinion. I walk 3 miles a day and sometimes a couple hrs. after my walk I am starving, so I eat.
My question is when I’m in the power phase and I’m fasting 24 hrs. If I weight train at 7am and then break my fast at 5pm is that okay? What I’m comprehending is your supposed to eat after your workouts but I don’t want too and I like working out in the morning.
I am on the end of my first 36 (well, actually 39) hour fast. And woke up with BG of 102 after 36 hours of water, tea and coffee. After my morning coffee with a TSP on cream it was 88 and then I had a 1 hour CrossFit workout (fasted 38 hours) and my BG jumped to 133 post workout. Not at all what I was expecting. I'm not going to stop fasting or workout... But maybe working out fasted is too stressful?
Promotes fasting which is very beneficial Also promotes eating dead animals containing sat fat, cholesterol and whatever drugs the animals are pumped with. Interesting
There is good cholesterol (which goes up on a high fat diet) and 'bad' cholesterol and their ratio is more important. In any case Cholesterol is a poor marker for heart disease: half of all heart attacks occur in people with normal cholesterol, and over 60s with high LDL cholesterol live longer! In addition a ketogenic Diet reduces triglycerides, blood pressure, fatty liver, blood glucose, joint inflammation, body weight, increases HDL and reverses diabetes: all of which reduces risk of heart disease.

Now I’ve lost 71 lbs!! I’m not as starving any more. I have been doing this 2 1/2 year + !! It’s so easy. I eat whatever I want, but now I crave delicious nutritious foods. It just happened. In the first 2 months I lost 20lbs. My skin is better too! It’s like a miracle!

I would highly recommend when new to intermittent beware of your environment when exercising as you may experience temporary light headed until your body essentially learns how to adapt switching to fat for energy. For many your body has never done this before.
How do you define extreme exercising? E.g. doing a 1,5 hour resistance training (every exercise going to failure with heavy weights), followed by 20 minutes HIIT (30 seconds full out on treadmill, 90 seconds easy going, repeat this 8 times), would this considered to be an extreme exercise?
Dr Mindy, I am getting on well with 36hour fast once a week atm. You say a no no to fasted exercise for fasts longer than 24 so shoukd I just be doing things like walking on my fasting days and then leaving my training for my fed days? My goals is to keep building muscle and lose belly fat. Thank you ❤
Started IF about two months ago. What I love: No more seasonal allergies Energy and brain function Less feeling overwhelmed with life Naturally wake up earlier After adding in Dr Mindy's advice to use along my menstrual cycle: Mind blown! Instead of fighting through the old desire of just pushing through around day 19-20, I started being kind to myself and feeding to help produce progesterone... Game. Changer ! Now my body set weight is slowly lowering...rather than super high swings up and down I'm able to listen to my miraculous body and act accordingly. Thank you Dr Mindy!!!💕
What if we're mid-fast and not supposed to eat, say 1 PM, but we work out at 8 am? Is it bad to not have protein immediately** following a workout or can we afford to wait till 1:30? I've been fasting while exercising (usually 10k and weightlifting, alternating days) but wait hours before I can eat. Is that bad? I'm also following your hormone cycle
Thanks Dr Mindy, exercise is great for autophagy and helps to keep you going...It is a great boost for me....in moderation...with streching before and after.😁
That was so helpful Mindy thank you. Particularly needed to hear your advice on NOT losing anymore weight but still fasting, exercising and breakfasting with protein. It’s a fine balance.
Dear Dr. Pelz, I would like to hear your opinion on calcium intake during fasting. Magnesium is strongly advised but calcium is never mentioned although in other contexts a 2:1 Calcium: Magnesium ratio is advised. So I'm confused on the importance of calcium intake. Could you clear this up for me?
Read fast like a girl a few months ago. I was diagnosed type 2 diabetic in February this year and now its August of the same year and I've lost 3 st teversed the diabetes and cholesterol issue', my IBS has gone and all my weird rashes, even my hair and nails are growing faster. I still have another 7 atone to loose and have a few big questions I'd love answering please. Thanks in advance ❤ How many times a week shouod you do HIIT training and can you do it low impact? Is lifting heavy weights but low reps better for me at nearly 49byears old? Can i have a bone broth recipe for fasting days please?
First time fasting for longer than 24h, it's been almost 48h in fact. I was prepared to exercise with my gym clothes and all, but after watching this video, I guess I'll just try to push it up to 72h if my mood/body allows and let my body do the healing process on it's own. Totally confident it will happen. Meditation will be the answer for today. Thank you, Dr Mindy for your wisdom.
You're welcome! Listening to your body and prioritizing self-care during extended fasting is important. Good luck with your fasting journey, and remember that staying mindful and in tune with your body's signals can lead to positive results.
Im confused...if I understand correctly from other videos, the week of a womans cycle is the best time to work out. You also said that the week of a cycle is the best time to do long fasts. But we cant do the 2 together...what is a good plan for the week of a womans cycle to get the best of both worlds?
If I am exercising in the morning for 2 to 3 hours during my fasting window, I have been feeling like I am running out of fuel before I break my fast. Can you recommend something to help with this? ❤
So we have determined it is great to exercise in shorter fasting windows however what if your fasting even after the exercise still ? My dilemma is I like to workout in the morning so i can’t break my fast until hours later I guess the solution is start my fast earlier the night before
I don’t understand ur theory?? When man was a hunter gatherer food came not before 8-10 days, man was already fasting and running n sprinting n lifting barks n stuff…but he still had muscle mass . Our body is way way intelligent than u doctor. It’s only that we have conditioned our brain sooo much that
I wondered this too. I love an early morning workout and ideally would wait 4 hours or so to eat. That doesn't seem like the best way to recover from a 1 hr weight training session or a run. Any help here would be appreciated!
What happens to fat cells? Is it true that they just shrink rather than get excreted or used up by the body? If you start with excess fat, does it mean you will always have it and that you will forever more be susceptible to having those fat cells expand quickly?
I manage well doing a strength or hiit style workout in a fasted state. However, if I go running in a fasted state my leg muscles start to ache and it feels a real struggle (this does not happen running in non fasted state). Is anyone able to shed any light on this?

I’ve beaten all my personal bests in running, cycling and kayaking around 17-19hr into a fast. My body feels like is functioning perfectly with such consistent energy levels and I know exactly how hard I can push.
Hey Dr Mindy, how long is the maximum amount of time you can wait to eat after a workout? If I'm not hungry after my workout do I still need to eat protein to build muscle or can I keep fasting for longer benefits? Would a workout day classify as a MTOR building day or would I just raise my protein level and still stick to the ketobotic or hormone feasting cycle please.

Generally when doing longer fasts like 24hrs and up we should not be incorporating strenuous exercise, but shorter fasts 12-16hrs we can incorporate the more intense exercises? And we SHOULD eat AFTER a workout??
What if I’m fasting and just want to exercise walking or Pilates?
Make the best choice you can based on your goals. Perhaps just begin and see how it unfolds for you. 💙
Love your videos 😊

do you think walking 20,000 steps would be too much while fasting 16 hours?

You are in charge! Walking is great but diet and lifestyle will help you lose weight. Look to your food and fasting for weight loss
Do you have a suggestion for aminos for vegans? Ty
Please help
I think you are under weight already.
Is this ok?
Wondering the same thing.

If i want to loose weight . And i am breaking my fast at 11 am and i am doing exercise at 9 am . Should i break my fasting with protein and carbs or fat?
Or when should i exercise? Is 2 hours before breaking my fast exercising good?
hello doc, riding bike fasted lower bad cholesterol?
👍
🙃 cheering you on!! 🙌
IF I’m not loosing so is there
Any particular reason ?

IF has never worked for me😢
We are all individuals. What matters first and foremost is metabolic health. That is where we begin! 💚
I'm a 53 yr old female and have been IF 4+ yrs now.
I'm now at the point of #omad and I can effortlessly water-only fast for 20-24 hrs, daily. My weekday schedule has me exercising typically around the 19 to 23 hour of IF.
Weekends, I exercise at about 12-16 hrs into my fast.
Of course, I'm flexible.. should I need to break my fast sooner for an occasion etc
Love it!
You can do this but at least vary it. 🙂

Can I drink pedialyte if I need electrolytes deficiency and not break my fast
Sea salt is ok as well
💛
I am on the end of my first 36 (well, actually 39) hour fast. And woke up with BG of 102 after 36 hours of water, tea and coffee. After my morning coffee with a TSP on cream it was 88 and then I had a 1 hour CrossFit workout (fasted 38 hours) and my BG jumped to 133 post workout. Not at all what I was expecting.
I'm not going to stop fasting or workout... But maybe working out fasted is too stressful?
I am day 4 of my cycle
It is natural that your blood sugar spikes after working out because you're releasing blood sugar from your muscles.
Promotes fasting which is very beneficial
Also promotes eating dead animals containing sat fat, cholesterol and whatever drugs the animals are pumped with.
No meat but fasting information is on point she was vegan at one time I don't get it why Massacreing animals for us to survive is ok
@@hermanharper4594 I agree Herman. It's just not ok. Good and evil are at war. Those who are in control hail satan and animal agriculture is a living hell for the animals. Ffs they harvest the adrenalised blood from babies. @drenechrome. They don't care about animals one bit. Fear and negative energy is an energy source for these "entities". They sure ain't human doing what they do
@@MCsmileyB Eating grass fed local meat is delicious, healthy and good for the environment. Destroying natural habitats and rainforests causing mass animal extinction just to grow vast plant monocultures is catastrophic. The soil is no longer fertilized by animal manure, but by harmful chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides etc. To produce evil vegan sugar, vegetable seed oils, maize and grain which are processed to remove the nutrients and make vegan junk food: doughnuts, cakes, biscuits, deserts, breakfast cereals etc.
@@akhusal bro ur delusional. Nice cognitive dissonance tho. 80%of the world's resources are used to feed the animals that U EAT. amazon rainforest being destroyed to grow soy to feed the animals not the vegans 😂lol 70% of the cows in USA are factory farmed and with pigs and chickens it's near on 95%. This whole grass fed beef scenario is a myth. In UK where I'm from 70% is factory farmed. U don't have to do much research to realise you are completely wrong. Not to mention the greenhouse gases caused by producing all these animals. And where does the waste go? Into the rivers and streams. I want to have that problem. Losing too much weight.
I was in a fasted state and was exercising did 30 min fast pace treadmill and light weight training. During the weight training felt faint, cold sweat and nausea. Just started what did I do wrong?

Since fasting I am the fittest and strangest I've ever been. Nearly 50 with no perimenipausal symptoms, sleep better, and just generally feel the best I've ever felt !
I’ve lost 25 lbs in 75 days! Now my mom is on board! Keep the education coming, we are EATING it up!
How long until you see any results?
Now I’ve lost 71 lbs!!
I’m not as starving any more. I have been doing this 2 1/2 year + !! It’s so easy. I eat whatever I want, but now I crave delicious nutritious foods. It just happened. In the first 2 months I lost 20lbs. My skin is better too! It’s like a miracle!
@susanjones3723 this was just from intermittent fasting and fasted exercise? Amazing! What length fasts did you do?
@@kaylarodriguez2005 just have only water, black coffee or unsweetened tea for 16-18 hours a day. Then during the other hours eat delicious food. You will feel amazing in 2-3 days! I have lost over 70 lbs and haven’t gained. Just keep eating in a 6-8 hour window. Some days I only eat for 4 hours. Eat until you are full!! It’s like Magic!
I would highly recommend when new to intermittent beware of your environment when exercising as you may experience temporary light headed until your body essentially learns how to adapt switching to fat for energy. For many your body has never done this before.
I never felt that and I feel no difference and I am 17years old
Thanks
That was helpful!!
Thank you ❤
Love these short videos, straight to the point and informative 👌💕
Started IF about two months ago. What I love:
No more seasonal allergies
Energy and brain function
Less feeling overwhelmed with life
Naturally wake up earlier
After adding in Dr Mindy's advice to use along my menstrual cycle:
Mind blown!
Thanks Dr Mindy, exercise is great for autophagy and helps to keep you going...It is a great boost for me....in moderation...with streching before and after.😁
If you’re trying to lose weight, how long after you exercise fasted should you weight to break the fast?
That was so helpful Mindy thank you. Particularly needed to hear your advice on NOT losing anymore weight but still fasting, exercising and breakfasting with protein. It’s a fine balance.
Dear Dr. Pelz, I would like to hear your opinion on calcium intake during fasting. Magnesium is strongly advised but calcium is never mentioned although in other contexts a 2:1 Calcium: Magnesium ratio is advised. So I'm confused on the importance of calcium intake. Could you clear this up for me?
Fasting has changed my life! I love it!
Thanks in advance ❤
How many times a week shouod you do HIIT training and can you do it low impact?
Is lifting heavy weights but low reps better for me at nearly 49byears old?
Can i have a bone broth recipe for fasting days please?
WHAT ABOUT WORKING OUT THE FIRST 2 DAYS OF A THREE DAY FAST
Just not the same muscle group
I don’t think Dr Mindy would say yes to that. Exercise during intermittent fasting is okay. Longer prolonged fasting is already stressing the body.
Congratulations!! 🔥 love the confidence! 💙
Thank you, I've been grappling with this. I'm new to fasting
My dilemma is I like to workout in the morning so i can’t break my fast until hours later
I guess the solution is start my fast earlier the night before
Love this women! Love this channel! Love fasting!
I don’t understand ur theory?? When man was a hunter gatherer food came not before 8-10 days, man was already fasting and running n sprinting n lifting barks n stuff…but he still had muscle mass .
Our body is way way intelligent than u doctor. It’s only that we have conditioned our brain sooo much that
While working out fasted- how soon should you eat after a workout?
I wondered this too. I love an early morning workout and ideally would wait 4 hours or so to eat. That doesn't seem like the best way to recover from a 1 hr weight training session or a run. Any help here would be appreciated!
What happens to fat cells? Is it true that they just shrink rather than get excreted or used up by the body? If you start with excess fat, does it mean you will always have it and that you will forever more be susceptible to having those fat cells expand quickly?
Great question
I manage well doing a strength or hiit style workout in a fasted state. However, if I go running in a fasted state my leg muscles start to ache and it feels a real struggle (this does not happen running in non fasted state). Is anyone able to shed any light on this?
Does fasting help with weight loss in targeted stubborn areas on your body??
Can I workout during the 36hr:12hr fast?

I just changed my swimming laps schedule for prep of 72 hour fast and will see how my body feels with water fast only and no workout at all in this 72 hr
I’ve beaten all my personal bests in running, cycling and kayaking around 17-19hr into a fast. My body feels like is functioning perfectly with such consistent energy levels and I know exactly how hard I can push.
Super suggestion..fasting with exercise......excellent results assured...thank you 🙏
I would love a video on fasting/exercise and NOT wanting to lose weight. I want to bulk up if anything. Thanks
That is okay if you don't hungry yet as long you break your fast with protein to lean your muscles. 💪🏻🙂
