*Some facts about Thaiachira* A spin-off of Muay Chaiya, which originated from a student sports group at Ramkhamhaeng University and therefore has nothing to do with old fighting styles, but pretends to make themselves important. The chairman of Thaiachira (Kru Lamp) has no qualification as a teacher (Krob Kru). He has also never fought in a boxing ring. His sword knowledge is based solely on student sports and stage fencing (Krabi Krabong), which is taught at the university. The rest comes from Muay Chaiya, which can also not be called an old or a real Thai martial art. The Muay from the city of Chaiya mainly refers to a certain Ajarn Ket Sriyapai. Ket Sriyapai was the son of a governor who was active in sports promotion and brought Muay Veti fighters (Muay Thai) from Chaiya to Bangkok to promote them there. Ajarn Khet never learned Muay Thai himself. The only reason why he is called "Ajarn" is that he has written and published some (fictional) stories about Muay Thai fighters. Ajarn Ket came from a high-ranking family and therefore never fought in a boxing ring. That would have been inappropriate for his standing. His actual profession was civil servant in the building industry. Later Muay Chaiya generations (for example Ket's school friend Tonglor Yalee) mixed normal Muay Thai techniques with Silat (Indonesia), Wushu (China) and Jiu Jitsu (Japan). For these reasons Muay Chaiya, and everything that comes from this direction, can neither be called an old nor a real Thai martial art. But how do you know it has nothing to do with the old thai fighting styles? I have been trying to do research on the actual old thai fighting styles and I find no significant historical evidence to base any of those. It seems like all the old thai fighting were mostly recorded in "ajarn" rather than books. Therefore, most of them has no actual written evidence. Can we then conclude that all of those ajarn teaching and knowledge that has no written historical evidence has nothing to do with old thai fighting style? Or was there even an old thai fighting style in the first place according to that logic. Because nothing ever recorded if they were recorded, they were mostly from ajarn who learned it from another ajarn that based on no written evidence. Our cultures value different things brother, we have never cared about degrees, professions, qualification, or just generally theorotical knowledge as much as western people do. We mostly care about practical knowledge, as there is a phrase in thailand saying that "ความรู้ถ่วมหัวเอาตัวไม่รอด" it means that you got so much knowledge but non of those is applicable in the real survival situation. Those ajarns were teachers because of their practical knowledge, because they could beat any challenger in their physically prime state and even some in their old age with pure skills and experiences. Most importantly, they were thai. Those are enough evidence for us to call those practical knowledge, real thai martial arts regardless of unpractical, pure theorotical origins of each techniques and etc. As long as it is thai who combined and found the application for it. I think that is the beauty of arts, constantly changing and developing nothing is set in stone. Plus, with the same physical status and same amount of time spent practicing of the fighter. I think muay chaiya fighter could compete in the same level as mma fighter without protective gloves and mouth guard and with no time limit in a battle to death senario
