Wisnuu Ganteng lmao I had the same thing, I could do a shitton, I watched this video and focused on getting everything right and now I struggle doing 20 lmao
"Lightspeed" pushups can be great for strength if done correctly (full ROM and good technique). It is called "BILBO SET" (here in Spain "serie bilbo"), and you do the fisrt set at maximum speed to technical failure. The goal is to apply the maximum force in the less time possible, and over time you can do more reps in less time, meaning you gained maximum strength. This "Bilbo set" is only for the first set, the rest of the training is a regular one. This is the method of the best bench press powerlifter of Spain, Jesus Varela. In my opinion and experience, it is a great way to get stronger with bodyweight training like push ups or dips. Keep the good work!
I am 16 years old and I always could do like 40 push ups in a row, but now I realized that there was too big gap between my elbows and I'm capable of 15 full push ups in a row, but I feel the difference. Thanks mate!
Soccercrazyigboman I'm nit him but I'll still answer you. As your goal propably is to build muscle you need to make the push ups really hard. You should not be able to do more than 12 proper form reps. If you can do more you don' t stimulate your muscles enaugh to let them grow. So in this case use a backpack and fill it with some weights. As you break down your muscles during training you need to give them 2-3 days to recover. If you don't do this you overtrain. I think Jeff Cavaliere might help you out on this as he has a wide range on fitness videos including themes such as overtraining, proper sports nutrition and so on.
best is to just experiment and see what works for u everyone's different believe and sth what works for me not necessarily has to work for u and vice versa again experiment
I never used to be able to do pushups because of my weight but finally after about a year and a half of working my ass off (somewhat literally!) I can finally do them! I remember the day I did my FIRST pushup, I was so stoked! Now on my workout days I do around 50-75! Crazy what nearly 200 pounds of weight loss can do for a guy lol
I stopped eating junk food (I was eating ice cream every day) I started lifting heavy weights and I learned what macros/micros are and just nutrition in general. I also like HIIT cardio because it burns a lot of calories and lets me challenge myself! Reading "Bigger Leaner Stronger" by Mike Mathews really helped me more than I can say. Thats actually how I learned about Scott Herman! Mike Mathews has links on how to do the exercises he mentions in his workout plan and they all lead you to scott herman's youtube channel since he's demo'd pretty much every legit lift there is lol
This guy sounds like he trained all the actors in The Departed But for real this helped me a lot. I couldn't do a proper pushup to save my life so I'm doing the negative pushups now. Thanks again!
Lets make a realistic challenge: for every like i get, thats how many days you (as well as me) do push ups. This is totally plausible. One rule: quantity doesnt matter. Just start somewhere
Frederic Parent ignore those people saying he skips leg day, either they're joking or they are retarded. Some people simply cannot get big calves, genetics play a significant role. Besides, calves won't usually grow a lot, look at Usain bolt for eg. Fast af, he trains his legs all the time but they aren't jacked, they are barely any bigger than some people like Scott who supposedly have 'stick legs'
work your calves differently, harder and like any others muscles they will grow even if you have bad genetic... you need to work more I was a sticky legs guy, i know what I'm talking about !!!
His legs are fine. Yes you can still build your calves even with bad genetics, but obviously your arms are most likely going to be bigger than your calves because you use your arms in literally almost any upper body workout.
They used to gig us in basic for not keeping our faces up. If we had our head down (bobbing up and down) our reps didn't count. It's still a pet peeve with me to this day. 82 push-ups in 2 min. was hard enough without them repeating the same number till you either got your head up or you got your back straight. They also went back and forth about either having our elbows break a °90 or having a guy hold his fist under our chest (we didn't go all the way to the ground). The old school guys insisted the fist standard was the right standard, but breaking a °90 was the same for everyone regardless of their arm length. I'm in my 40's now and I'm lucky to crank out 30, but my chin is up and my back is straight. Great video! I think you've got a new subscriber. 👍
I'm on the verge of obesity and decided to do start working out, and let me tell you, I feel like the weakest whimp on earth, after 5 push ups I just plummet to the ground haha
That was me three weeks ago mate. I could manage about three proper push ups then I was out. Now I'm hitting 20 proper at a time, and around 80 a day. I can see the difference and my confidence has shot up, keep with it mate and you'll see the results
Set up your phone or a camera and watch your form. Print out a calender page and do your daily routine and check off the days and see your progress. If you're really heavy, go learn proper swimming form and do that for cardio. Great workout, easy on the joints. Go always with where you feel it if it's how it should be. Keep going and cook your own healthy meals.
Keep on truckin! One advantage you have is imcredible progress possible. For example, when you can do four, you are 33% improved!! Also, that improvement will spiral into other improvements, such as inclemently improving your food quality. I’m getting back into fitness myself... having to remind myself it’s a daily thing. Not yesterday though! Yesterday was eat a whole row of cookies. Then a cupcake. But I did 7000 steps.
Hey I was 200 I could do 10 started about a month ago doing pushups everyday just 10 now I'm 200 5ft6 and I do 20 pushups a day :) I'm still chubby but I got enough muscle tone I'm confident w my shirt off. Any progress is progress you just gotta stick with it and believe it man 100% you get what you give you will see results for your efforts and I swear on my life it feels good aff transforming your body physically and psychologically
Good tips I'm 48 years old from the UK and stopped lifting in the gym 8 years ago after 22 years. forgot how good press ups are this combined with dumbbell curls in the morning before breakfast only takes about 10 minutes doing super sets.
Get it checked...I had similar issues, currently suffering from shoulder impingement.got this while doing hammer curls with that clicking issue. Its not necessary that the problem will only be with your elbow. It can be your shoulder or scapula.
Do not go beyond 90 degrees with your elbows. That is why one does a 'c' position, relaxed gluts, abs tightened to get your torso and your lower back rounded upward. Any work with any joint going beyond 90 degrees will ruin that joint. This dude is not abiding by that rule. He is going to far down. Tucking elbows is tricep and allows you to get down too far. Their 'core' I sure hate that term. Shoulders down away from your ears! Close hand equals triceps, wide hands equals more pec. At least he says too fast is not good. That is very correct. Far more strength is found going slow. Fast uses momentum...breathing. When you take in a breath? And your chest moves? You are not breathing correctly. Breathing is done by diaphragm and your transverse abdominal muscles. Blowing out (through a straw helps at the beginning). Breathing in is passive to infill the lungs. His posture tells me he is doing something right. When he puts the weight on his back he is actually doing the c position. But by golly, if you do a hundred pushups you'd better do middle and lower back in equal!
1. Warm up your wrists first. 2. do wrist mobility exercises after your workout 3. If it just feels uncomfortable, you push through it, your wrists will adjust and strengthen with time. If you do these, your wrists should improve fast :)
I watched a then x video, on proper pushups, and honestly this one was so much better, Chris arches his back too much saying it's the full range of motion, his spine iscurved but when do it your back is straight. That's a perfect push up.
His accent is very fake. He can't even keep up the charade for the entire video. He says the same word completely differently at different points. I was born in Boston and lived here my entire life. Most people with a boston accent don't even "drop their R's" --- it's everything else about the accent, the things people who 'think they don't' have an accent do. Also, it's the rhoticity of the accent. This guy isn't even handling r's correctly. You don't just "Drop R's" -- you pronounce the R when it precedes a vowel. It's like the final consonants in French. It's not: "Pahk the cah in hahvid yahd" It's ""Pahk the cah *'rin* hahvid yahd" "There is" is pronounced normally "They're not" isn't. "Whether or not" Is "Whetha, 'ruh' not" It's why some people also "add R's" "Yeah 'rit is" "The idea 'ris"
john doe yeh I agree completely. I've lived in Boston my whole life as well. Although I do not have a full Boston accent myself I am very good at doing one because I'm constantly around it. I don't understand at all why it is so hard for people to do.
Odd, you didn’t mention doing pushups with feet elevated as an incremental increase in difficulty. Great video. Thanks. What to do if you have a nagging shoulder impingement?
By the way. Something I’ve noticed even with class exercises. Proper breathing techniques seem to be “understood “ as…well…understood. This screwed me up for a long time as I was not breathing properly and quickly became fatigued.
Your shirt is awesome haha hey any chance you make a video on how to set a home gym at home, with the same mindset as your training? I hope many would like a video like this.. :)
This video has helped me a lot actually, I decided to start exercising during this quarantine, and I’ve been doing my pushups wrong. I’m doing them from the knee because I have no upper body strength. Is doing sets of 5 reps 25 times alright?
Thank u .. great video.. i am a 40 yr old woman but never able to progress from knee to regular push ups.. very disappointed.. i am doing 20 knees pushups with proper form but why am i not able to do more than 3 regular ones 😟
As far as speed, I started a 30 push-ups a day for 30 day challenge that I am just over half-way through. One thing I heard was that less reps done slower allow for a lot of resistance time, with less joint impact. At 51 years old, I love that idea! I was going to up my reps and total count until I learned that. Now, I may stay at 30 push-ups a day, but let them take twice as long to do, and then three times as long, and on and on. What do you think of this idea?
I always like to go down slowly on the plank position then of course keep the back straight but for me I lightly touch my nose on the floor and lift up slowly.. the slowly you lift the tension the more of a work out it is 😊
Damn touching nose to ground ? Damn I wear a locket and I go down till my locket touches the ground ie. 3-4 inches before touching ground and then go back up...
2:15 Proper hand placement 2:59 flaring elbows too wide 4:03 Keeping spine straight 5:41 Completing your reps too fast 6:32 Improper breathing 7:51 Not Progressing with the movement
They still use the letter r they just take them out of words that have it and add it into words that dont. Like Ma can I take the ca to the market to get some tuner fish.
instructions unclear, accidentally set up christmas tree for my birthday and put easter dinner in halloween themed present boxes trying to keep posture
The number doesn't matter. If you get up from your perfect form push ups and you feel your chest, triceps and back...like you want to start shadow boxing, that's much better than bouncing up and down and only feel it in your shoulders.
Yh same for me Idm if there at lest some form but if they happy and smug about it I’m gunna call you out on it and say it’s not yoga there’s no downward facing dog
Desert Nymph Congrates, I can do about 18 in a row before having to wait 60 seconds for another set. but my stance was always super wide, turns out I was making that mistake and fixing it, it's really hard to do the pushups now. But glad I know all this because now I can work on my chest and core more while doing pushups, which in turn will help me with my other goal, doing a handstand
Glad to see somebody isn't skipping neck day!
BigFknDave XDDDDDD

Wtf so trueee hahahaa
Phew thought it was only me
I hate when people do fast push ups. When it's slower the form is better.
yeah... there is a way to move faster.... but aint nobody making gains with LIGHTSPEED push-ups :-D
"Lightspeed" pushups can be great for strength if done correctly (full ROM and good technique). That's true, fast push ups lead to half reps sometimes
some physical examinations gives you a time limit for your pushups, so i can see where this people are coming from
Bam Baam those people count reps. we make reps count!

ScottHermanFitness is it okay to do push-ups every day including doing your normal chest day plan? or would that hurt your recovery and gains
Soccercrazyigboman
I'm nit him but I'll still answer you.

king Scott, haha! look at them one handed push-ups! yeah boy!!!
+Niccolo haha thanks man. Yeah I miss tossing those in my workouts. Hardcore!
ScottHermanFitness so for one push up you do reps with each hand? Like in every other exercise.
I am against one handed push-ups because of the fact that they put a twist into your back.
thank you for the push up tips, i will correct my too wide elbows, and i will do slower push up and breath better

The push-up itself is not a problem my wrists get sore after push-up anyone have an advice
poods fan drink more milk
use pushup handles, if not available use dumbells instead.
poods fan you are probably overweight or i dont get how your wrists of all things are getting sore.
Maybe try a different possition
If it sores, just wait until 2-5 days before doing push-ups again. Also, do a proper warm-up first for your arms
1. Warm up your wrists first. 2. do wrist mobility exercises after your workout 3. If it just feels uncomfortable, you push through it, your wrists will adjust and strengthen with time. If you do these, your wrists should improve fast :)

I just love your videos Scott, you explain everything so clearly.
Damn, this vdeo helped me realized I was doing the push-ups with the elbow in a bad position, thank you very much !
Your shirt is awesome haha hey any chance you make a video on how to set a home gym at home, with the same mindset as your training? I hope many would like a video like this.. :)
Why the nose inhale exactly? (instead of mouth inhale)
I think this is the first work out RUclipsr without tattoos.
Bro very very much thnx brother u solved my problem now i can do perfect pushup much love bro
Now i can do 5 pushup in 1 set
I hardly ever give a thumbs up but you get one cuz I found your video very informative
Im a skinny 14 yrs old kid watching this video
Start now doing these exercises.
Got Clickbaited me too
This video has helped me a lot actually, I decided to start exercising during this quarantine, and I’ve been doing my pushups wrong. I’m doing them from the knee because I have no upper body strength. Is doing sets of 5 reps 25 times alright?
I realize how weak I am now lol
your a dog.... of course ur fucikn weak as we humans are the superior race...
Phat boie you're*
Right? I always thought I was good at push-ups. I did like 15 of these and my arms are numb lol.
My form has apparently been shit and hurting my middle back, behind the ribs/near the spine the day after I do pushups. Thoughts?
Love the tank top man!
It was greatly useful, tnx 😍
Thank u .. great video.. i am a 40 yr old woman but never able to progress from knee to regular push ups.. very disappointed.. i am doing 20 knees pushups with proper form but why am i not able to do more than 3 regular ones 😟
I finally come back to this video again and already, I get an ad of how to 'excise correct',yes thank you....I guess
I used to do 50 wrong, now i can do 30 in a right position
As far as speed, I started a 30 push-ups a day for 30 day challenge that I am just over half-way through. One thing I heard was that less reps done slower allow for a lot of resistance time, with less joint impact. At 51 years old, I love that idea! I was going to up my reps and total count until I learned that. Now, I may stay at 30 push-ups a day, but let them take twice as long to do, and then three times as long, and on and on. What do you think of this idea?
when my friends at school say they can do 20 pushups i show them correct form and they usually can do 5
good vid

Your voice and facial expressions make you look like a more baby faced Jon Bernthal
Aaaaand now I can't unsee that...thanks
@@rd3299 LOL
I always like to go down slowly on the plank position then of course keep the back straight but for me I lightly touch my nose on the floor and lift up slowly.. the slowly you lift the tension the more of a work out it is 😊
Damn touching nose to ground ? Damn I wear a locket and I go down till my locket touches the ground ie. 3-4 inches before touching ground and then go back up...
Is he an avenger?
2:15 Proper hand placement
2:59 flaring elbows too wide
4:03 Keeping spine straight
5:41 Completing your reps too fast
6:32 Improper breathing
7:51 Not Progressing with the movement

I'm 33. When I was in kindergarten I had to take speech classes because I wasn't saying the letter R.. should have just moved to Boston...
Me TOO
Hahahaha
I couldn't say R and I had to undergo a surgery because my tounge was joint... I still can't say R
They still use the letter r they just take them out of words that have it and add it into words that dont. Like Ma can I take the ca to the market to get some tuner fish.
ya its beta idea
I love that slight aggression and frustration in his voice as if he remembers every single moment he saw a person doing a push up wrong haha
My Gay older brother said it was that very “aggression/frustration” in Herman’s animations, that revealed “the fact that Scott is “Great in bed!” 😲🤨🤣
I think he just wants those people to stop being lazy.
Conrad Hooper tell you’re gay brother he’s a disgrace
Anime Goat I wanted someone to say it ty.

Covid 19
day 30 ish of quarantine: we can do an absurd amount of one arm pushups
Dave Wolf me lmaaooooo
Before: I can do 10 reps
Now: I can only do 3 reps 😂 but hey at least it’s a start!
I'm going to need a third arm to assist
Better 3 correct reps than 10 wrong 😊
The number doesn't matter. If you get up from your perfect form push ups and you feel your chest, triceps and back...like you want to start shadow boxing, that's much better than bouncing up and down and only feel it in your shoulders.
The right way is hard but feels good. It's more comfortable for the bones
I agree guys. I can still only do 10 but at least my shoulders doesn’t hurt anymore. It’s more in my biceps and a little bit on my outer chest.
Sounds like he's trying to sell me shamwow towels
KERNEL SANDERS says u kfc
Its cause of that accent. Its so damn mixed up but i think it might be boston or the Bronx

1:25 So freaking true kids in my sports class do fake push ups and I am the only one doing it fully which causes me to always finish last
Yh same for me Idm if there at lest some form but if they happy and smug about it I’m gunna call you out on it and say it’s not yoga there’s no downward facing dog
Its not because we dont know its because we cant do a legit one. Its better to do fakes rather than 0 so the coach/teacher doesnt call us out
It’s soo true
Dude. Seriously! You just helped me nail 5 full push-ups! I've been working forever to nail these!!!
You just earned a subscriber! Thanks man!!
FullMetal372 you need the most strength in your shoulders to do a handstand.
I can do so many pushups I stop counting, screw you all haha
Gavin McArthur Shit form and super wide stance, good for you. Fuck boi
Gavin McArthur being only able to count to 5 doesn't really help
BREATHING?!?! OMG! I can't believe I have actually heard a RUclips exercise video talk about applying breathing. Fantastic!
+roland lake im actually making an entire video on proper breathing. Some REALLY interesting stuff!
Yeah I always die when following instructions from other people because they forget to tell me that I should breathe >=(
Pedolf Titler Proper breathing 🤔
In with the good ju-ju, out with the bad ju-ju.
breathing is important bro as i used to do push by stoping breath which abvviously isnt right
Don't skip vein day
What's cool is that he got his hair to match the neck veins. That's talent.
