Love that love for Normans play list!!!!!
Love this guitar
Just for the record that isn't a Clapton Strat. The neck is but the body appears to be a Mexican Player series or maybe an American Standard from 2008 onwards....look at the 2 point tremolo, the F stamped neck plate and the 3 ply pickguard.A Clapton body would have a vintage style 6 screw bridge, single ply pickguard and a battery near the trem springs for the mid boost activated by the bottom tone control.Nice playing as usual Mike and nice sounding partscaster but you wouldn't want to sell that as a Clapton model to someone who doesn't know.
Blackie was a "Partscaster" too! '56 body, '57 neck and pick-ups from a third guitar.
☝️☝️🆙Thanks for watching, you have been selected among my lucky winners message, me to claim your prize
That guitar is my "Holy Grail" guitar. My first guitar was a black strat copy with a maple neck and fretboard. And I learned a lot of Clapton licks and riffs on it when I was young. Always thought Blackie was one of the best looking guitars ever. That thing is sweet. Wish I could afford it lol.
Usually the Clapton Strats have the Mid Boost and TBX fitted, and single play pickguard. Also, the trem is usually blocked off, with six screw Trem system. It seems the person who bought this didn't really want a Clapton Strat in the first place!
Yeah, I wouldn't really call it a Clapton strat at all, the only part of a Clapton strat on it is the neck and that isn't even from a 'blackie', they usually have it written under the signature. 2 point trem, AM Pro body maybe? entire electrics seem to have been changed so no, not a Clapton strat
Hate to say it Lemmo but there is an error concerning Blackie with that particular guitar. It appears that only the neck is from the “Blackie” model Strat. The tremolo body cavity should be carved out to house a 9 volt battery that is used to boost the 25db preamp for one of the tone controls. The middle tone knob should also be a TBX control. Also it shouldn’t be a 2 point trem but a vintage style bridge. Pickups should be Fender Vintage Noiseless. The body is most likely from a 2008 American Standard Strat. Nonetheless I love the video and great playing as always. And this is a GREAT channel. Keep up the great work!!
Yup, you’re spot on. I owned a Clapton Strat around 2010-2013 in black. This is not a Clapton Strat… someone just put a Clapton neck on a Standard I’m afraid.
@@mikec3454 That’s right Mike. I still own a Clapton Blackie Strat. I also own a 2008 Black American Standard Strat which is why I’m thinking the body of the guitar Lemmo is playing has the 2008 Strat body.
Hope it wasn't priced and sold as a Clapton strat, false advertising

That Sunshine of Your Love cover was sick, amazing guitar playing
Aside from Mike’s great guitar playing, the cinematography from Jen, and the great work from all the other elves at Norm’s, I would also like to highlight the Saint Norm’s Christmas playlist on Spotify. It’s also a banger so let’s give it some love too! 🎄

Did a EC have a two point bridge? I could be wrong...I was under the impression that it was a six screw.
Thanks
hehe i just posted same ?, thats NOT an original EC body
Awesome Mike hope u have a great tour again. 😎😎😎😎😎
That's a Clapton Strat neck but it's not a Clapton Strat body. Listed on Reverb as a "Partscaster."

I first saw Clapton perform in 1975 in Detroit (yes I am old). Santana was the opener. At the end of the concert, Eric and Carlos jammed out an extended rendition of Black Magic Woman. Good times!
God I would love to hear that!
very cool
Yo it doesnt get much better than that.
Great GOTD Michael! Great sounding guitar. Loved all the Clapton music. As usual you kicked butt. Thanks and good for you guys the store looks really busy!ps: how about a Santa hat on Godzilla....
Happy Trails, Lemmo ! Stay safe !

I am 30 years old and when i discovered Eric Clapton i was 18. He changed my music taste, I am only listening Eric Clapton for 12 years.
I like his playing better when he was in Cream myself. He's a great singer also.
You have denied yourself of the pleasure of a variety of music. There is a lot of other good music, enjoy it!
@@davethefed I do listen a lot of different kind a music too but Clapton iş always there for me
@@berkc06 I totally understand what you want to say. I can't listen nothing else when I really understand Clapton. Ok, Marc Knopfler, David Gilmour, Chris Rea, John Mayer... But Clapton is God!
I'm still investing the time with listening to them, but I only like musicians like John Mayer, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Mark Knopfler, I am 28 but don't like Gen Z musician's and the Radio music
The name "Blackie" would have been under the signature on the headstock, the neck probably belonged to a different color (non-Blackie) EC Strat. That body ain't from an EC Strat, not a six screw bridge and no cavity in the back for a 9-volt battery for the mid-booster. BTW though, can someone tell me which amp he's using?

Mine was a 2015 American Standard Strat. but myself & friends always referred to it as the Clapton because it looked like the Clapton’s Strat. Some just aren’t as obsessed with such things. Anyways, I ended getting rid of it. Couldn’t get it right. I think it was a nut thing but I think there was more than that at work.

Excellent guitar playing as usual Michael. Great video from the Normans Rare Guitars team.
Wow, what a powerful demonstration of the range and versatility of that Strat, but most of all Mr Lemmo’s alchemy turning wood and metal into magic…

Be aware that the Clapton Stratocaster with the boost of has 12 DB mid boost. The same as a hot Gibson Les Paul. As Humbucker power doubles with every 3 DB mid boost a 15 DB mid boost guitar has the double Humbucker power of a 12 DB mid boost guitar ( Gibson Les Paul) a 18 DB mid boost guitar has 4 times the Humbucker power of a 12 DB mid boost guitar. A 21 DB boost guitar has 8 times the Humbucker power of a 12 DB mid boost guitar. A 24 DB mid boost guitar has 16 times more Humbucker power than a 12 DB mid boost guitar. At 25 DB mid boost the Clapton Stratocaster is more than 17 times more powerful than a Gibson Les Paul Humbucker wise. The reason it starts at 12 DB mid boost is because it has Humbucker pick ups. Vintage noice less pick ups are Humbuckers. The Lace senzor pick ups that were there earlier were even more powerful than the Humbucker pick ups in the Clapton signature Stratocaster. So this is as far away from a Stratocaster you can possibly come. Clapton himself does not see it as a Stratocaster. He writes in his self biography he used a Stratocaster for 8 to 11 years. He started playing the Stratocaster in 1974 ( yes his earlier solo albums were recorded with a Gibson Les Paul ( see page 179 in his self biography ). In 1982 Clapton was fed up with the Stratocaster and signed for a Company called Strings and Things. They made his first signature guitars and had great Humbucker guitars. Clapton at this time was looking for the most powerful Humbucker guitar available. A year or 2 later Fender offers Clapton the most money ever given to a guitarist to sign with Fender. Clapton answers ” If you can make Me the absolute most powerful Humbucker guitar in the world I sign with Fender ”.
Fender suceeds with making the absolute most powerful Humbucker guitar the world has ever seen and Clapton signs with Fender.
Thats the guitar Clapton has used since early 1986 and became the Clapton Stratocaster in 1988. Its without a doubt the absolute most powerful Humbucker guitar in the world still today. Clapton played a Stratocaster from 1974 to December 1985 but has to deduct the contracted time with Strings and Things and therefore Clapton says he played a Stratocaster for 8 to 11 years. If you buy this guitar be sure to have a very powerful amp as a normal amp Will break down immidiately from the brutal power of the Clapton Humbucker Stratocaster.
My first guitar was a 93 Clapton in green. Nothing like them.
☝️☝️🆙Thanks for watching, you have been selected among my lucky winners message me to claim your prize
That green was the best color. It’s a shame they discontinued it.
I could only dream of such a guitar. I've still got my first lefty...a '96 Squier Strat that I bought 'cause I wanted to learn 'Layla' and 'Sunshine of Your Love'. Sweet sound Michael!
That’s not an Eric Clapton strat body - standard series maybe. Should be a 6 screw bridge if it was Clapton strat body. Standard or deluxe body would have the 2 point bridge. Wonder if it has the clapton boost circuit or the noiseless pickups, or if it’s just standard pickups and wiring.
You’re absolutely correct
Michael mentions it has some replaced parts. Presumably this includes the bridge, maybe the pots too.
Don't forget the clapton had an 8 hole 1 ply pickguard and it had the noiseless pickups.
Yes indeed, I was gonna say that good eye, still a great guitar a lot like my strat , American standard body with a Warmoth neck
There’s no routing for the mid boost battery on the back either.. defo not a Clapton body.
Fender and Clapton had a dispute when they first started making "Clapton" Strats because Fender wanted to make them also with rosewood boards but Clapton said no because he use rosewood boards himself. However, apparently Fender made a very, very, select few in that way and released them and I'd kill to get my hands on one. Has anyone here ever seen one? I don't even have a clue what they'd be worth but if someone knew what they had they'd surely be valuable wouldn't they?

A Clapton signature with 2 point trem bridge? 🤔
EC doesn’t use the whammy bar
Clapton sounded better with a Gibson Les Paul or SG thats my opinion , SRV and Jimi Hendrix were the masters of the Stratocasters
So it's a partscaster 🤷

Clapton body should have a six screw trem.
I bought an Eric Clapton Strat and it's the best guitar I have ever had - highly recommended . I had a Yngwie Malmsteen Strat - Custom Shop .
Since when did they make a 2 point Trem EC Signature?
Someone probably swapped the bridge as 2 point is more stable for whammy bar use
@@christineayres7199 Then thats a terrible decision (apart from removing the better trem - ive owned every trem system over 40 years and the original is still the best (thats what was on my Stevie Ray Vaughan Signature Strat) - if you know how to set it up. Same with the tuners, Klusons are still the best, Leo got it right 1st time) as its now no longer an EC Strat body, its a partscaster, and no ones paying top dollar for partscasters....that thing is a mongrel, and not worthy of being at Normans....thankfully they probably paid next to nothing for it....because thats what they'll get for it, maybe more if they part out the neck.
@@adrianmiller1971 Depends who owned it? Also if the 6 point trem is better then why does the 2 point hold tune better under extreme tremolo use? Also the Stainless steel block in the 2 point tremolo weighs more which gives more depth to the tone from what I've researched.
@@christineayres7199 Ive owned everything from the lowliest Squier (1st Guitar) to the (most expensive production Signature guitar, the SRV) and i can tell you hands down the vintage 6 point trem is the only one that sounds like a vitnage trem...the 2 point trem changes the resonance (as it has to due to construction) and ive never gelled with it, to say it holds better tune simply because it has 2 contact points is oversimplifying, especially as most people who know what theyre doing with the vintage set it up with the 2 outer screws touching the trem plate, and the others backed off to prevent possibler binding, and i still prefer all 6 screws because theres still contact at the leading edge, to my ears, and plenty of others, the vintage trem is the traditional Strat sound, and the two point is one we do hear a difference with, especially after 40 years of playing nothing but Strats (and a couple of Ibanez and ESP superstrats with floyds/ibanez trems - i think im one of the few that liked the ZR Ibanez trem on my S470DXQM...until it was string change time, give me a 6 screw Strat anyday at that point, press the bar down, stick a couple of coins between the block and body and restring.... ) Theres a lot of bamff out there on trem blocks, peopel swear they can hea ra difference, usually after theyve forked out a small fortune, and suffer from confirmation bias. Take the Classic Viobe guitars, thnnnest trem block you'll ever see on a Fender (Squier) guitar, i owened 3 of them, opened thw back fo the first one i bought and lookign at the thin block i assumed id have to immediately rpewlace it. Insetad i plugge dit in an d played it (strange that), and never touched the trem block. Then i bought two more, and they remained unmolested too. But read any CV forum and theres people insisting you MUST buy a Callaham trem block for them....i wonder how many Callham employees have foruem accounts...bumff....
@@adrianmiller1971 I wonder how Hard Tail Strats sound compared to ones with Trems? As I never use the whammy bar I'm not into that whole Divebomb thing , Jeff Beck seems to be the master of that , Telecaster or Les Paul I usually play , Only got turned onto Strats due to watching Yngwie and SRV 😎 👍 anyway I think u may be right about the vintage trek being better but it's a choice

Definitely has the Clapton tone! I believe it was 1983 when I bought my '79 Fender strat used for $480.00 at a local music store that's been out of business many years. Mine is black with a black pick guard and pickups with the bullet truss rod. Pretty cool. I still play it often. I recently got a long overdue fret job done on it from a local luthier. It plays like a dream. Something about a Fender strat. In the late seventies, they were a chunk of wood. Lol Heavy guitar.
this one with 24 frets
a trem like Fender Beck trem
a better neck joint
rosewood fg and perfect
with a humbucker and with locking tuners = perfect but it does not exist

The 2 problems With the Clapton Stratocasters if you like normal stratocasters are 1. Because of the stacked Humbuckers ( Fender vintage noice less ) it can never sound like a normal Stratocaster. Physics does not allow it. The Clapton Stratocaster has always 12 DB mid boost even without the boost button. So it Will always be a lot more powerful than a Stratocaster. Its weakest position 12 DB mid boost is a lot more powerful than a Gibson Les Paul Humbucker wise.
2. At 25 DB boost its Way too hot. As Humbucker power doubles with every 3 DB mid boost its between 25 to 30 times more powerful than a Gibson Les Paul Humbucker wise. The Clapton Stratocaster is the absolute most powerful Humbucker Guitar in the world. This is as far away from a Stratocaster as you possibly can come. I dont understand why Fender calls it a Stratocaster because it Will fool a lot of customers wanting a real Stratocaster. Clapton according to his auto biography only used a real Stratocaster for 8 to 11 years. He started recording With a Stratocaster in 1974. The earlier solo records and Derek and the Dominos were recorded with a Gibson Les Paul by Clapton ( see page 179 in his auto biography. ), by 1982 he was fed up With the Stratocaster and Signed with a company called Strings and Things. They made excellent Humbucker guitars and even made the first Signature Clapton guitar. A year or 2 later Fender offers Clapton the biggest offer ever to sign With Fender. Clapton answers ” If you can make me the absolute most powerful Humbucker guitar in the world I sign With Fender ”. Fender succeds in building the absolute most powerful Humbucker guitar the world has ever seen. Nothing even gets close even today. Clapton then signs With Fender. Thats the guitar Clapton has used since early 1986 and became the Clapton Signature Stratocaster in 1988. Clapton only used a real Stratocaster from 1974 to December 1985. But deducted With the time he was under contract with Strings and Things and played their guitars he states in his auto biography he only used a Stratocaster for 8 to 11 years. In the eightiees he used the Fender Elite s lot when playing Stratocasters. The Elite has a mid boost from 0 to 12 DB boost. Clapton only used it on its maximum 12 DB mid boost.
Sorry, Cream tunes need a Gibson to get the Clapton sound.
