I don't live in London or greater London so am currently unaffected by ULEZ, but my sympathy goes out to all those that are. The point I would like to make is this: I am a tradesman, my VW van would not be compliant as it was registered in 2004 (it's a 54 plate) I bought it brand new and have always kept it well maintained with it so far always passing the emissions test at MOT time. It still runs beautifully despite haveing over 264000 miles on the clock, if I lived in the catchment area I would be forced to scrap a perfectally good van that probably puts out less emissions than say a 3lt V8 car that is newer and therefore not liable to pay the charge. The whole scheme is poorly thought out, it's using emissions as an excuse to rob people (the poorest in society) to make up the gaps in TFL's budget caused by Kahns bad housekeeping.....It's a scandal and needs to go, as does Kahn!
I'm in a greater London Borough. Now my two vehicles a car and van are both non compliant. The van is a 14reg mint condition with 54k miles on the clock. I feel like a prisoner in my own home now, either stay in, or pay the 12.50 a day to leave the house, or risk your life on dirty, cretin infested public transport.
Exactly this. How can scrapping perfectly good vehicles be an environmentally friendly decision. Natural wastage of vehicles would have brought about this change soon enough in these materialistic times.
The ULEZ charge and it’s associated camera costs is an outrage against London residents and visitors. We have a well maintained campervan, a symbol of freedom, now a symbol of imprisonment, leaving us and the van completely redundant. Used to support elderley neighbours and disabled friends when we are not off out of London in it - all that has now stopped. Collecting prescriptions, shopping, going to the tip, lifts to the garden centre and for one friend just a visit for daily company - all finished. Khan and his cronies at City Hall have driven a dagger through our community and left us devasted and at a loss as to what to do. Bravado Bladerunners, and direct action, left as the only recourse.
