Great video! You can also find these unique mixes on the mono portion of the 2014 Y&T US Albums CD. The stereo version of the CD uses the 2009 stereo remasters.
Those mixes were done by Capitol in the U.S.. Giles is working w/ the session tapes and the UK Masters in London. If these US mixes had been archived in the UK, I'm sure Giles would have considered them. I wish someone had alerted him to their existence while he was putting together the new boxed sets. I wish "Yesterday and Today" (both the stereo and Mono versions) had been part of the Capitol Series Boxed set releases.
I think that those 3 unique mono mixes were included on the CD-boxset "The Beatles US albums" from 2014. I happen to have a copy of the yesterday and today on CD that’s the mono version that has those versions on there that you were just talking about and you can hear it exactly what you were saying it’s a German CD bootleg a course thanks
The mono version of I'm Only Sleeping on Y&T was sent to Capitol along with Dr. Robert and Your Bird Can Sing before they considered finally mixed by Martin/Emerick. Capital used these mixes on the mono Y&T and faked the stereo from these mixes for the stereo Y&T. When Capitol reissued Y&T for CD, they kept the same mono mix but used the UK stereo mix. The difference is that on the UK versions the backwards guitar is first heard at approx. 44 seconds after the word "crazy". On the original US versions the backwards guitar debuts at 1:23 at the word "time." I am used to the original fake stereo version so I made my own by taking the US mono on cd and using a signal delay on one channel on Garage Band on my Mac.
From the UK here and I have the Y&T 2014 special edition with the stereo and mono mixes on one CD (very nice). I love these alt mixes, especially And Your Bird Can Sing. Much prefer it to the original Revolver version. The "scabby" guitar is indeed a lot louder during the verses and I love it! Technically speaking, the vocals on all 3 tracks are not as loud in contrast to the music as they are on UK Revolver, but it doesn't matter. I love the Y&T mono version of And Your Bird Can Sing and can't hear any other version now.
Great video! I have always loved Yesterday &Today. I have a mono pressing from the late 1980s which was done in error. It has a stereo cover and stereo label but the mix is mono with the original mono mixes. My original Y&T that I bought in 1984 has every song in stereo. I believe the Y&T CD from the US albums box from 2014 has the correct mono mixes unique to the US according to the Daily Beatle website. A good book to check out is Beatles Mixes by Kultur Buch Bremen from 2000 is a good resource. Thanks
The U.S. albums box set is mostly made from the 2009 remasters. Some of the more obvious different mixes are from the U.S. masters but Dr. Robert is definitely not the U.S. mono mix as it has the standard UK fade out.
I had the original-1 mix copy back in 2007-it was mint, too. The Capiphone project will feature all of the North American mixes, including the Canadian purple reissue Meet the Beatles mix of Don't Bother Me,that has an extra "Don't"mixed in.The more notable(and for the first time in an audio program),.the unique film mixes featured in HDN and Help are also included(AHDN (extra bass line after the inst break),Tell Me Why(different lyric phrasing),And I Love Her(slower single track vocal)and Help(added reverb)and You're Going To Lose That Girl(count-in as heard in the film )are included.
There are some stereo pressings of Y&T that have daytripper and we can work it out where the vocals are centered if you can get ahold of a purple Capitol label that has it
Mixes only issued in Germany and Nordic countries are also in the Capiphone project. Finally, everything is in mono AND stereo for the first time!!Love Me Do,She Loves You,45 mix of Help!,etc.Mono for Abbey Road and Let It Be,too!!Next year!!!(2023!)
This was a huge mistake on capitals part in my opinion. I was 10 in 1966 and I didn't have a clue that the three Lennon songs from yesterday and today were actually supposed to be on Revolver. When I was 10 and bought revolver I kept looking at the rear of the album where it says lead singer and kept wondering why John only had two songs. I could never figure that out. So in 87 when the correct release of revolver came out I was so glad. By the way I'm very aware of these three mixes as of back in the day I played This Album to death and my brother and I could hear John at the very end of Dr Robert and the extra guitar on I'm only sleeping. A good friend of mine put this song Dr Robert from this mix through a soundboard console that he has in his home and did a few things on the computer to really zero in on what John is saying at the fade out and it comes out as okay ah. I think I still have my copy somewhere.
Remix 11 TNK is already(prepared in 2020) featured on the project Revolver mono edition.Project is still ongoing.Lost masters to replace, unfortunately, like the Let It Be mono.
It’s not a big deal as these mixes are available and who would want the redundancy on the new Revolver box set. That was the point of buying the American versions which overall are inferior to the UK. Great video though!
Cheers Brian, can you please explain to me the Difference on the Beatles Revolver 2009 vs 2022? I know you get extras in the deluxe but I'm talking about the single LP release
The biggest difference is that the new release (2022) has been completely remixed by Giles Martin. The 2009 Stereo and Mono releases were not remixed, just remastered. So in case you don’t know the difference between remixing and remastering; here’s my really simple explanation. Remastering is just taking the original 1966 mix that George Martin/The Beatles made and adding a bit of polish to it; like extra bass or increasing the overall volume. Remixing is taking the original studio tapes (made before the mixing stage) and changing the levels/EQ/etc of all the available tracks/instruments. So remixing is way more involved. Hope that helps a bit. (Sorry if you already knew all this and I went on and on. Haha)

Capitol caught John's "heard" after their sent Mono mix was cut onto the Mono stampers. The Stereo stampers had yet to be made, giving Capitol some time to remove the "heard.' You do not hear this on the fake Stereo mix. It should also be noted that Capitol Record Club and most tape releases have the three songs in True Stereo mixes, which are also unique US mixes. These to probably won't be on the new Box set either. Finally, to the best of my knowledge, it should be noted that none of these unique mixes are to be found on the officially released Y+T CD, from "The US Albums" box set (also released separately.) I'm fairly certain just 2009 remasters there.
It's actually RM11 they are including. I could be wrong here; but from what I gather based on Mark Lewishon's "Sessions" book, RM11 was made April 29th, 1966 which was before they added the backwards guitar solo. So i'm guessing this might just be a mix of the backing track. Like I said, I could be wrong, but I suppose we will find out when the box is released. The mono mixes that appear on Yesterday & Today were made May 12th, 1966.
actually I stand corrected (or maybe not haha) but I was looking at a track listing for the box that lists "I'm Only Sleeping (RM11)" but the amazon site has it has "I"m Only Sleeping (RM1)". So at this point who knows haha. Either way, I do stand by the theory that the mono mix on Yesterday & Today is different than either RM1 or RM11.
@@BrianBringelson I've seen RM1 shown on the official beatles site, amazon, and blogs. Prooobably safe to say that's what's being used? No clue haha! Maybe these aren"t includded because you can still get "Yesterday and Today" on cd. Wasn't there a difference with the stereo "Doctor Robert" as well? A shame that at the time of Capitol's request they online had three John songs ready. Makes the US "Revolver" very uneven.
The Stereo release Y&T on Apple, released in the seventies had those songs in stereo. The reprint black rainbow issue of Y&T says stereo, but in actually is in mono. But you're going by the first stereo version of Y&T which had those songs in fake stereo, but I go by the Apple release.
The apple label pressings were a mixed bag. Some had true stereo, some had duophonic, some had both. The late 70s purple labels do have all true stereo, so that'd be a better option.
