  • In this video, I show how I make these felted fiber cuffs. It is a simple technique with a cool, artsy outcome. The felting machine that I use is the Baby Lock Embellisher.

    I've been making jewelry for over 55 years, and just now starting to use fibers and learning to weave. Your video is fascinating, and I appreciate so much that you are sharing your creative ideas with us. Thank you for that. Your cuffs are drop dead gorgeous!

      Hi Pat, The "pebble" stitches is just me going around in circles-LOL. It is a little circle motion that fills in space. It's free flowing and doesn't have to be exact. The circles are different sizes and shapes. Hope this helps- most important thing is to have fun with it, give yourself grace and relax! Free-motion stitching takes some practice but is so much fun once you "get it"!

    Hi Julia, It’s me…again. I’m lucky enough to have the Babylock 12 needle embellisher…..but stupid enough to leave it sitting in a corner with it’s dust cover, totally unused. So I keep watching your youtube and trying to inspire my lazy self. The last 2 1/2 years have been a real trial and health challenging and I know I’m not alone. Good thing I can count on your youtube videos.

      Hi Phyllis, I just dug out my embellisher last week and got a few flower pins made. I don't use mine often , it's such a mess to haul out all my fibers, wools, etc. This past couple years have been so tough for many, hang in there , your sense of humor brightens my days!

    What a great idea, I am learning needle felting and this is a fast project to get some experience. These are so pretty and would be fun to wear. PS: I like the hand felting, there is something satisfying about it to me, however for a business I can see how the machine would be faster. Oh, I use a felting pillow which gives me more real estate.

    Hi sweetie! Fun project! I'm a fiber-file also... you can also get sari scraps from Etsy, which are fun...and also clean pet hair makes cool yarn...of course you have to hand wash hair samples to make yarn!:-)

    Hi Julia, You and I are of the same mind in some areas. I have tubs of novelty yarn and roving and felt and have made. I find wonderful single skeins of mixed yarn like the one you displayed in Tues Morning. I have a 12 needle Baby Lock needle felting embellisher. You were lucky to find one for $300. I use thick & thin yarn and pencil roving as well as regular roving. So much good stuff. This is why my studio is over flowing.....because of my various interests. Think I'll whip out some of my "stuff" and make a couple for my grand daughter's birthday.
    I was wondering what to send her. I use the green clover brush and 5 needle punch, but the pink 3 needle model works best with a piece of upholstery foam. So much fun to do, just like you said.

      Hi Phyllis, I can relate to the overflow! I too have many interests and I can't seem to narrow it down. I did say "goodbye" to my polymer clay stuff. I use to make and cover buttons with polymer clay. I'm also thinking about letting go of my soldering supplies. I place vintage laces and needlework between glass for pendants-it's a lot of work and I'm not good at the soldering. So many crafts and so little time. Thanks for watching! Julia

    Just decided to make some of these for my granddaughters :) If I follow your process and then they eventually need washing ...will the needle felted felt on top shrink as I presume the backing felt won't?? Much thanks for your great ideas!

    Hi Julia, great tutorial. I just ordered a janome felting machine. I use to have one, but sold it due to moving. And of course I miss it. Is it possible to start with the background felt layer and put the roving on top for felting instead of putting the background fiber on later? Hope you will understand my question:) Thank you. 💜

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  4 года назад

      Hi Evelyne, Yes. I sometimes start with the background felt. I find that when I start with the roving it becomes more free-form or organic looking. But either way works. I am getting the itch to break out my felter again. Your comment has given me the nudge:) Have fun creating! Julia

    Hi Julia . Your felted cuffs are so adorable and each one is unique and different. I'd like to know if your felt backing is 100% wool and where you found it? I really enjoyed the tutorial. Thank you for sharing!

    • @stitchesbyjulia

      Hi Gail, Most of my backing is wool blend felt. I purchased it at my local quilting store. You can purchase 100% wool felt through Etsy. Here's a link to one of the stores that carry its. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

      Hi Julia. Thank you so much for responding! Great idea.....I will check my local quilting store! Most of what I found at JoAnns Fabric was polyester felt and kind of thick and stiff..Also, thanks for the link on etsy. I am having so much fun making a variety of cuffs. This also gets me familiar and comfortable with the Baby Lock Embellisher, which I have.
      Would you also have the link to the silk embellishments that you also showed in your tutorial? Thanks again! Appreciate your talent!

    How long do you make the band (not counting the loop) ?

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  6 лет назад

      Oh my gosh Phyllis, now all I want to do today is pull out my embellisher and play with yarn! I haven't felted for so long. The band measures approximately 7.5 inches not including the loop. It falls down on my hand a bit and is not tight around the wrist. These are easily adjustable by moving the button in or out. Have fun! Julia
