I just found you today, so happy. You mentioned in another video that you have another video where you mention the materials you use. Like what actually type of solder, solder iron & other helpful tools. But I don’t see it, can you please let us know. Thanks so much 🤓🙏🏼💗

Clare, I just found your site. I bought my son a sterling ring from Italy last year. It was suppose to be turquoise. Well……it wasn’t. When he was wearing the “stone” fell out. I picked it up and it was acrylic. I was/am so mad. But it was my fault for not really checking it out better. Do you do cut stones. I can send you a pic of the ring and measurements if you do. I’m excited I found your site!

Hi there! Thank you for checking out my videos. I am afraid i dont cut and polish stones but i have several friends that specialize in cutting turquoise. It is possible that the ring has a calibrated setting, meaning it takes a standard size stone- so a replacement can be purchased precut. If you need a custom stone made thats a bit costlier however totally possible. I would start my bringing it to a local jewelry store and asking them to measure the ring to see if it takes a calibrated size and if they can order a replacement first. best,
      Clare

Thank you Clare. I will take and get measured. I would love it if you would give me the info for someone that can replace the stone. The ring is special and I definitely want to get the stone replaced.

I think it’s so sad that you think it was your fault you’re not a geologist and you were looking for something for your son. They should’ve never done that to you. It is not your fault.

Unfortunately lots of dealers dont disclose if a stone is treated or an synthetic. If you are interested in learning more about how to watch out for fakes check out my 'Ask a Gemologist" series @@Bonnie-mc9zo

How do you decipher real and synthetic gemstones?

Great question! I completed my graduate degree from the Gemological Institute of America, where we learn all the various ways to identify synthetic gemstones under high magnification and with a range of scientific instruments. Some synthetics are easy to spot because they just don't possess the right attributed to be natural, such as color or crystal structure- but other synthetics require testing by a professional. It depends on what the type of gem it is. There is no 'one' test that will conclusively tell with every single variety of gem if it is natural, but rather different characteristic test for different stones. Thank you for watching!

Hello! Great studio space! What type of soldering iron is that?

Its a "Weller SP80NUS Orange 80W 120V Corded Electric Soldering Iron" that i got on ebay for about $45 usd, but next time i have to replace it i would like one with an adjustable temp gauge- they are a about 3 times more money though, but i think it might be worth it. Thanks for watching!
