Largo al Factotum Thomas Hampson (Lyrics in Italian)

- Thomas Hampson with amazing voice. The barbiere di siviglia (Rossinni). This song it is one of my favourite. Enjoy it. So, you can learn the Italian language. Don't forget to put your comments. Also you can rate the video.
Breathing is for the weak.
G. Rossini lol, The singer probably has an extra nose
Andrew Gunner It's hiding in his hypnotizing, magnificent hair.
You are mistaken, sir, it is the hair that hides in the nose
+G. Rossini he s trained to breath with "jet system" :3
ahhaha😂👍👍
No microphone in operas.. just his pure, years and years of trained voice.
Pretty sure a microphone was involved or we wouldn't be hearing it
Opera singers do not use microphones
Ambient microphones
Thank you uploading song this is one of my prefer we agreed love it
Beautiful!!!
Tom and Jerry introduced me to this
the cat above and the mouse below
A great recording.
Thanks!
God damn!
Unfortunately, no data what so ever! Date, place, conductor, orchestra. But the performance of the "song" (understand: aria) is great. Mr. Hampson is just absolutely the best, compared to anybody!!!
@GoblinInventor I THINK THAT LANGUAGE IS ALSO IMPORTANT, FOR EXAMPLE.. I SPEAK SPANISH AND IT IS A LITTLE EASY FOR ME TO SING THAT FAST, BUT WHEN I TRY TO SING "INFORMER" BY SNOW OR "GARDEN OF EDEN" BY GNR IT"S SO HARD... WELL MY FRIENDS REGARDS FROM COLOMBIA!!
ANYWAY THAT GUY IS AMAZING
he's awesome! but, who is that woman host (the woman with the short hair)?
The equally awesome Anne Sofie Von Otter
I lose my theet only listening.
I can't even do the la la las at that tempo let alone the lyrics.
The sexiest voice on Earth.
He just looks so happy to be on stage and singing. He is great at what he does.
To be fair, he is playing a happy barber
Daniel Teixeira right, this is how the character is
Charming.
The best !!!
SUCH CLASS SUCH SWAG HE’s THE FUCKING MAN
4:15 hold my beer moment
4:17
Just saying that for when I restart
Hold onto your hats!
It's insane how it looks so easy for him !!!!!!
Baritones are my favorites and he is my favorite baritone :)
he IS sweating though!
@@hetedeleambacht6608 Haha yes. I mean this song is extreme sport in itself 😅
Friend: Eminem is the fastest rapper in the word.
Me:
Your friend is an idot. Eminem isnt even known for being fast. Literally nobody says that
Amazing rendition
Even if he does look like the world's tallest Oompa Loompa
GOOD grace. Even the orchestra can't catch up with his speed. he is AMAZING!
musicalacting lol I do feel he his a step ahead of the orchestra by the fast speech, and that is actually one of the few flaws in the outstanding performance. the other I would say I'd his facial expressions when repeating "Figaro". It could just be I have a different interpretation than he does, so not a big deal there. All in all one of the best performances you could possibly see of this aria, and this is supposedly not his best.
"Even zee ORCHESTRA ees beautiful..."
Its nit an easy aria to perform , requires a lot of skills. very few are capable.
I've watched and listened carefully most of the interpretations of Largo al factotum n youtube (more than 15) and without a doubt this is my favourite, not only because of his great voice but most importantly for his interpretation, he really looks cooky and sure of his role, exactly how Figaro is meant to be.
I think the same.

I don’t know I feel like Robin Williams has that piece on lock (I’m fully kidding lol please don’t attack me 😂)
I swear ive done this as well and i love how he sings so passionately at colla donietta. Hes the only one whose brought emotion to that part
Sí, condivido.
"Lyrics by: Sergio Hernadez." Just because you wrote them OUT, doesn't mean you wrote them! hahaha
Maybe you could cut the guy some slack. I give him some credit for noting that the aria is a great way to learn some Italian. BTW, where's your peerless contribution?
I think he's the only singer who can keep up with the tempo he conductor sets. Most other singers run into trouble with the coloratura passages, the fast speech and pronunciation of the words, run out of breath and then are behind the orchestra.
He doesn't. He's perfectly on point and even sings admirably well. He's absolutely marvellous!!!
I happen to absolutely agree with you! Anyone who thinks Rossini's "patter songs" are easy to sing, then start carping on how singers should have better diction etc etc, should try singing one themselves, and get tangled in a torrent of words and fast tempi. I know, because I tried and I couldn't manage any of it!
+Tatiana Lennox I thought he was singing too fast and I do not like his timing...he almost has to rap, lol...So, is the aria meant to be that fast, maybe to highlight the singers` qualities or weaknesses ?
Yes it's quite a tongue twister .. Thomas Allen sang this very fast too.
@ke.ux: And Sir Thomas didn't ony manage the fast tempo, but did so with a perfectly clear diction.
If you think that's fast listen to his Cheti Cheti from Don Pasquale
This is perhaps the greatest example of stage presence, stunning looks, charisma, and soaring talet in a single performance. The man is amazing.
Agreed.
Look up Franco Corelli... not even in the same league.
@@oiuyuioiuyuio Corelli?? What does he have to do with anything in this video LOL
@@comment6864 read the comment I replied to. Are you able to read? This isn't the greatest example of that which the original comment describes by any stretch of the imagination. I gave one example of someone approaching that description in a more substantial way.
Watched Corelli, he is great, but this video makes Thomas Hampson an equal besides him. Your comment is not the greatest example of honesty and solidarity by any stretch of the imagination.@@oiuyuioiuyuio
Can't count how many cartoons I heard this in.
+Ron Flesher every other Looney Tunes cartoon xD
+Ron Flesher Every time I hear this song, I think of the Tex Avery cartoon, "Magical Maestro", and I can't help but giggle, every time!
Michigan J Frog was another one lol.
Woody Woodpecker's version was the best! Watching maniacally torment and chase around that barber shop customer was classic!
My favorite is Tom & Jerry, "The Cat Above and the Mouse Below". Every time I watch it, I still laugh as if it were the first time!
There may be a mouse sleeping below the stage
I can see the mouse licking a piece of lemon off stage
highly doubt it, the mouse didn't finish the aria.
Tom & Jerry is one of the places where kids can learn classical music
True. And Bugs Bunny.
I love the emotion that he put into it.
He feels so comfortable on stage! Amazing!!
I could watch this ALL day
Outstanding performance by Thomas Hampson - and even more so considering that he was singing this aria with another famous Figaro, namely, Hermann Prey (who had sung the role at the Met back in 1973), sitting right there on stage. And Hampson sings it with bravura, joy, and elan - a different type of bravura, joy, and elan from that of Robert Merrill, to be sure, but just as enjoyable in its own way.

There will never be another Hampson. The guy is a legend.
@Barone Vitellio Scarpia The applauses at the end speak louder than words
no diggedi doubt : )
Agree😍
Hampson is great, but check this out, ruclips.net/video/HJAwODTPoGw/видео.html
Legend? Opera is truly dead. Legend! LOL!
Best version for sure, what a diction, what a control, beautiful and clear Voice, easy in the top, a true Master!
@Barone Vitellio Scarpia It’s unfair to compare a young-star(at the point this video was taken) with the legends of old..
@Barone Vitellio Scarpia RUclips has no video with his name, can I get any link about him? Anyway, you understood me wrong. I do NOT think Hampson is THE BEST baritone in the world. At least not when this video was made. But still he is a respectable, great baritone. Do you even disagree with that?
@Barone Vitellio Scarpia I see rationality from you by stating Nucci a tenor... Well then I’m shocked even Hampson is considered a tenor because I thought his D3, E3 was rich enough to be baritone..
@Barone Vitellio Scarpia 100% d’accordo viva Corelli
@Barone Vitellio Scarpia but corelli is absolute master. so I thought that would be possible
An absolutely tremendous performance. To sing this in the finale at the speed he does with accuracy and pronunciation is incredible.
Largo al factotum della mediocrità mondiale, largo ! ...
non per la prima volta Hampson nella sua così detta ''interpretazione'' non rispetta lo spartito .
povero Rossini !
Hampson is the king. Nobody can sing like him, so much emotion, so much fun, and so much raw power.
Sherrill Milnes singed Largo al Factotum too and his is better than this version
Hampson is a tenor.
Jesus Christ... I could hear the popping of exploding ovaries
+RobbyGAMEZ I mean bruh, I'm trying not to bust a nut over here too
rumor has it he got laid more than a dozen eggs after this performance.
I've not been able to hold it back since I heard Hampson in that weird British telecast of "Cosi" 20-some year ago...
This Robby Kid he was and still is the hunk of operas
Jesus Christ bless is holy name
Tom and jerry, the cat above and the mouse below.
Christopher Reeve and Hugh Grant had a son and he is a great Baritone! xD
ERiCDrAyViN LOL!
I used to think that Muslim Magomaev was my favorite Figaro but I keep rewatching this... he's GREAT, I love his acting skills, his expressions and the way he moves :)
Muslim Magomaev, Azerbaijani-Soviet citizen was very good in this and not only as Figaro. Unfortunately not well known in US as many great artists from behind the Red Curtain did not visit America. He died due to heart attack. He actually followed steps of Mario Lanza by switching to lighter repertoire. It was a big mistake he made.
I actually like Pietro Spagnoli's more, but this one is very good.
I believe Magomaev was more of a pop singer. He was ok at opera, but not his forte
i once looked up a translation of the lyrics, but all i can remember is 4:00-4:10
"i'm here. Figaro here, figaro there, Figaro here, Figaro there, Figaro up, Figaro down, Figaro up, Figaro down, faster and faster, what a confusion-"
He's officially my favorite Figaro!! Amazing!!
Maritza Jimenez mine too
Oscar brought me here ! C'mon, it's a funny movie !
Finuccis SIT!
Who else came here because of Tex Avery or Tom and Jerry??
Yo
He’s absolutely brilliant! And charming and fun and full of joy. For all the critics out there who demand their criteria of perfection, please learn to simply enjoy. Music is to be listened to with an ear for enjoyment! Meticulous scrutiny has it’s place, but not in the role of the listener. Our job is to live the humanity expressed in music. The relentless critics are doing a disservice to the arts!
He's the best at giving masterclasses, and now I know he's one of the best singers I've ever heard!
Probably you didn't hear too many singers!
+Judy JR (A suburban mom's life) Oh, heaven! A singer's groupie!
What does it mean if somebody is nice and respectful for his voice or his performance? He can be the most respectful person on earth, when the voice is destroyed, it doesn't matter!
You are talking about his character, I'm talking about his voice. That's two different things. I'm sorry, if you can't understand this. Period.
Suburban Mom Either you want understand or you can't - I'm afraid you can't.....
Happy 200th birthday to the Barber of Seville!
And by the way, I don't know jack about opera, but this performance was absolutely outstanding. What a vocalist!
Well, a toure de force performance of a classical Italian masterpiece, what can one say? He nails it and.thank you for delivering a beautiful rare performance!
Check this one out... ruclips.net/video/HJAwODTPoGw/видео.html
One word, magnificent!
I like his voice but Figaro he is not. John Rawnsley: now THERE'S a believable Figaro along with the voice.
ARE YOU SERIOUS? He's the perfect Figaro!
I know, no costume.
P
Stunning.
Thanks for sharing. One thing: the words "città","verità","l'alba è già","qualità","più nobile", "non si dà", "v'è la risorsa","ahimè", "carità","Figaro là,Figaro quà,Figaro sù,Figaro giù" must be spelled as such, with an accent on the last vowel.Cheers from Italy
chi ha messo i sottotitoli ha la tastiera americana, ergo senza vocali accentate..;) by the way le parole QUA E SU NON VANNO ACCENTATE!!!!!!
Nina Bella you get bonus points for including quotes around each word. Bless you! I hope Italy is doing well. Cheers!
He's pure tenor, but singing as baritone
No! He is a Light Baritone. No tenor in this world would have such a low speaking placement! Show me a tenor who can speak an F2 with such an ease and comfort.
ruclips.net/video/dT1ljGerZK8/видео.html
I don't think you know what a lyric baritone is
@@gualtiermalde645no, he's a tenor without high notes, cuz of this reason he's singing as a baritone
This is marvelous. He seems so brilliantly comfortable and happy singing the song.

Y con mucha diferencia!!!!
What a good accent 🇮🇹
Yes, Hampson 's son in law is Pisaroni , bass baritone from Parma, Italy. He had so many duets with him, I think Luca learnt him a bit Italian 😂
HOW??!!!!
omg... his voice.. amazing thats all i can say
TRALALALA
I love it when he says Figaro... figaro figaro figaro and the faces he makes. GREAT!
CORDE VOCALI ROTTE :)
Dudes got some heavy pipes, not a lot of people can understand the quality and skill that this guy executes with his voice these days.
Especially most teens my age, kinda sad. This guy is awesome.
Original rap god XP
Lol it's what i thought!
A. C. Woah there, I get it you don’t like it but you don’t have to trash the genre. Rap is music that speaks rhymes and wit just like poetry. Jazz and blues are great for listening and I like it too. But you know, give Rap a try. Just find an artist that conveys powerful words. And Rap was also one of those things that conveyed the Black community's message in the past. You know that riot in the 1990's, they were made because white peoples were racist. A better experience is just watch NWA.
Rap is not a genre, it is just trash. How can anyone even mention the word rap in an opera video?
Emil Elias Preach it to the world, some might listen but not all, the biggest question is whether they'll finally realize it. Times have changed, people innovate so not to stagnate, if you can’t comply with the order of nature constantly undergoing metamorphosis. I pity you. I just wish that I don’t grow up living in ignorance to the way things are. And what’s wrong with Rap in an Opera video? It’s the RUclips comment section my friend, it’s almost like the public domain.
4:17 top 10 rapper that eminem too afraid to diss
He almost sounds like a tenor!
Absolutely outstanding. How does he articulate so damn quickly?! I've tried for years... And failed!
4:18 When you look at your phone and realise you only have 5% battery left.
@marwanelmounajjed Opera is hard and takes amazing talent and years of training. Keep in mind that while this is a concert performance of an aria, but when Thomas Hampson sings this role in opera (which he did), he sings a lot more than this one aria, it's part of a 3-hour performance with a lot of singing. Notice - this is the Met, a 3800-seat theater, and there are no microphones anywhere, the audience hears the unamplified voice, and the singer projects his voice so that he is heard.
I can't help but think of Bugs Bunny LOL
Same here.
Heh, this reminds of Woody Woodpecker instead.
Heckle and Jeckle. "Call for Mr. Figaro!!!"

"Leopold!"
omg this is so happy im loving it. the figaro of largo al factotum are: thomas hampson and mario al monanco.
If you want to meet the real Figaro go to this link: Dan Iordachescu G. ROSSINI -- Barbierul din Sevilla Aria lui Figaro). And then we can talk!
This is the best rendition; both from the singer and the orchestra
his and Michael Spyres being the best out of the lot imo
So, raise your hand if you pretended you were singing at the end.
@adri5008sweden
This was at the Metropolitan Opera Gala in 1991 because of Maestro Levine's 25th Anniversary as conductor at the Met.
All the best
@yosoyelfercho ahh, that is true, going from English to Italian is a big change in phonetics for a native English language speaker. I didn't really think about it making the tempo difficult but it definitely does you are correct.
그냥 피가로가 악보에서 튀어나와서 부르는것 같음. 발성과 무대매너가 압도적 ! Brabo!!
At 4:17, I checked to see that I hadn't left the player on an increased speed mode again. Nope, a human really did that. Bravo bravissimo!

Awesome version... but...
...Woody Woodpecker has done better!
;)
he is pure Tenor, pay attention on his look and energy , could anybody find any other Baritone like him in whole history? he sung A note at 2:54, no baritone is able to sing A so easy :). He is a super singer anyway !
Isn't that von Otter at the beginning, as Orlovsky?
BEAUTIFUL VOICE !!! BRAVO !!! GOD BLESS YOU !!! GOD BLESS YOUR FANTASTIC TALENT !!! YOUR ETERNAL FAN Nadya Mirkova from Sofia - Bulgaria
歌唱力すごい!いつか本物のオペラをイタリアで聴きたい!!
I know nothing about opera, but i think this performance is good, easy and fun to hear, especially when you closed your eyes. His way to sing up and low note, put some strenght and go smooth, and also change his voices character during figaro is just awesome. Thank you so much for sharing this video.
Believe me, you actually do know very much about opera, without believing that you're knowing it.
Go on trusting your keen senses. Someone like you can't miss.
I'd like to know what opera experts think about this. To me, (a novice) this guy has pretty much got this. He's loving every second of this. I'm no kind of expert but, this is my favorite "Largo" Does anybody know of a better version ?
It’s a solid performance but the voice lacks the weight and darkness that you expect of a baritone. We call singers like this “lazy tenors”. Look up Robert Merrill singing this aria on the Ed Sullivan show for what a true baritone sounds like.
the best figaro ever!!!!!
Oh, my God, he is just splendid. (And boy, is he cute, but that's just icing on the cake!)
As always excellent outstanding brilliant real skills talents and efforts to able to sing like that are deeply appreciated thanks if you are Italian its your kind of music everyone including the orchestra did a excellent job let's honor and appreciate this masterpiece of music much love and respect and appreciation job well done you should be amazed and proud love you guys thanks hope they took him out to dinner tonight after a excellent performance you should be proud very impressed way to go appreciate you guys thanks !!! Joe
I believe this is from the Metropolitan Opera Gala honoring James Levine's 25th anniversary back in 1996. Everyone from Renee Fleming to Bryn Terfel to Frederica Von Stade performed (except for Pavarotti, who cancelled at the last minute).
This is from "Live from Lincoln Center" September 1991,The Silver Anniversary Gala of MET
I'm here because of Tom and Jerry.
How can Hampson have an ENGLISH accent when he's AMERICAN?
So much for YOUR ear!
I wish I was on that much cocaine
