I’m a non-muslim from Bangkok, and I’ve been to Pattani once. I wanted to go there because I was (still am) interested in the muslim culture and history of the muslim community in that region. I visited all the iconic mosques, tried some delicious local food, and stuff. Even though the majority of the locals are muslims, it’s actually a multicultural city with a mix of muslims, Chinese Thais and Buddhist Thais, and that’s what’s charming about it. The people there are extremely friendly like in the video. I was offered a free motorcycle ride and was invited into a home of a muslim local, and I’m not even a muslim! Your video makes me want to go there again and have more interactions with the locals. Also, I never knew there were quite a few foreigners living there as well.
Aww what An amazing story!! This is why I do this to show everyone how amazing all people are around the world including my Muslim brothers and sisters in Thailand! I hope you visit again!

People in Southern Thailand are Malays similar to Malays in Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore and Indonesia. There are 5 provinces in Southern Thailand are Muslims majority. There were separated with Malay states in Malaysia by Anglo-Siamese Treaty in 1909 between Thailand and British where states of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Songkhla and Satun under Thai admin. Meanwhile Malay states Kelantan, Terengganu, Perlis and Kedah under British administration until gained independence in 1957. All those Malay Thai provinces and Malay states in Malaysia used to be under Pattani Darussalam Empire and were under Melaka Malay Sultanate and as usual the western colonials came and divided us as happened to many parts of the world included India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Yemen South/North, Palestine, Gulf and in Africa. They saved their ass from the western colonizer by giving some land (that they also colonized) to western colonizers. Some part of the land to France became Laos, Cambodia. Malaysia was also not a one big kingdom like Siam but separate state with their own sultan, Each state became together as one country thanks to the British as you can see they have many sultans while Thailand only have 1 kings.
