I still come back to this every once in a while, it's fucking hilarious. I'm a huge Dark Souls fan, but you gotta be able to appreciate people just seeing it for the first time not taking it seriously and messing around.
Its far from impossible, it is the bane of the head strong , the oblivious and those unable to to die, learn and adapt accordingly. Its hard but almost never unfairly so.
GoogsRS Then shouldn't he know better then to say those things about the game? I normally love & agree with Fraser but he was playing this game as if he was drunk. He should know better then to say the game feels kunky when hes only used 1 weapon & only played for almost an hour.
Disappointed that you and the chat are calling the dark souls community assholes. The dark souls fanbase is extremely large, don't let a few dicks venting off their anger in youtube comments ruin your perception of us. The community is generally very positive and quick to help you out in the game, even spawning a huge meme of 'Sunbros' who help newer players out. The worst crime that most fans commit is trying to backseat game others, but then also telling them to experience the game themselves. Can't have it both way people.
I would say that considering Fraser was playing in a large group, and he was just playing casually without knowing any of the mechanics, he did fine. If there is an interest, then by all means play again, but if there was no spark then so be it. The only person who should care how or what Frash plays, is Frash.
Djees, why all the hate and remarks? Look at all these comments.. People really need to chill out. This here is what this channel is all about: playing games on a couch, having some fun and just pay attention to the details of a game. I've watched many video's and live streams and this is my first comment, but I'm going to get turbo, just to support this AWESOME channel :D Fraser, Becky and the rest of the crew, keep up the good work!
I have to say, for a first timer using the worst starting class, knowing JACK-SHIT about the game beforehand and only using the clubs heavy attack, he did really, REALLY well all things considered. Not to mention that we got some good laughs out of it.
Yeah, Fraser made it farther in forty minutes with the hardest class, no knowledge, talking with his friends and laughing, than DSPgaming who picked the knight and was actually playing seriously.
Guys calm down, this is a casual gaming show not a professional 100% speed run show. The whole point of the couch is to get the reaction from the crew when they play a game. If you guys want to watch a boring talkless play through without talking go somewhere else, cuz here comedy comes first.
I wonder if a lot of these negative comments, are from people really new to show. I freely admit i get annoyed at some things, from some games, but I hope i never came off as some of you guys have.It was a fun let play of it. Hell, it made me want to think about trying DS, just so I can see how easy / hard, Frasier FIRST TIME, at the game was, maybe even check it out the rest.
Dark souls isn't nearly as hard as everyone makes it out to be. It's just a learning experience and different from other games because it doesn't hold your hand. Highly recommend the game! My favorite of last generation due to amazing gameplay, level design, music, cool bosses, and that deep lore.
TJ G Yeah highly recommend it. When I played it I only had a hd 4000 which ran the game at a consistent 15fps. But I loved every second of it regardless. Often on sale for $6, though you have to deal with the dreaded GFWL :0
I just wanted to thank you Fraser for finally playing this on the show, regardless of what some people say you and the crew are good at what you do and that is playing awesome video games and making people's days. You work hard and the production value of the show is astronomical, far better than what I've seen in most. Keep up the spectacular work and koodoos to you.
Fraser will need to learn the rules of the game first, before he can give it an accurate review. He barely made it out of the tutorial, and it clearly shows he didn't understand the controls, because he wasn't paying attention to the tutorial at all. The game is all about stamina management, blocking, targeting, and using light attacks. When you understand that, and aren't fucking around, it's a really good game with very tight controls. But at least he pulled off some nice dodging on that tutorial boss.
I really, really like the fact that it saves the NPC mad. Its a game saying "You done goofed, now live with it and, perhaps, pay attention next time". I like games that kind of insult che gamer that insults the game.
Eden's Cross Wow, so Dark Souls 2 is going to be even more forgiving than Dark Souls, which is already more forgiving than Demon's Souls? I wouldn't call that a "fix" so much as pandering to people who should really know what they're doing by the THIRD freaking game.
***** I never said that controls need work. I said that the gameplay does not FEEL fluid. Part of gameplay and feel is the character animations. Even the developer has admitted that they need more polish. How am I off base on that?
***** To be fair you did pick the worst weapon in the game as your starter. Once you learn the stamina system and you get the handle of a good sword or spear it becomes a ton of fun. The game is constantly escalating and the enemies get more and more interesting from stage to stage. The atmosphere is great and there's a ton of depth to the systems. It doesn't give you any quarter, but if you really put your head to it Dark Souls becomes fun in the way that Punch Out or Castlevania are. One of the cool things that giant bomb does in their letsplays of dark souls and demon's souls is that they involve the chat in the game. The online integration of dark souls is tied ot the design, as you get hints and clues and lies from other players online, so using the chat to help and plan when you get to bonfires could be an interesting angle. But on a more serious note... I feel bad that I reacted so harshly in my other post Frash, I love the show and think you're great and I don't want to come off as attacking you and the show. I overreacted and I'd feel shitty if I pissed you off with my post. :(
MrDuhVinci Yeah. Right now I'm going as a 50% weight character with decent armor and a strong Halberd and mighty Pyromancy to back it up. I feel like an unstoppable, powerful warrior, and the best thing about it is that Dark Souls makes ME responsible for my accomplishments. The game didnt hand it to me, I had to earn every Soul the hard way. :)
club moves are faster when you use light attack frash used heavy cause it's for men, if he was playing this alone I'm pretty sure he might get the controls down and enjoy the game more as a result.
Not only are you a lone soul who occassionally get a comrade to fight with (unless played with friends) but you travel through a broken world of devistation and filled with people who say little, but has a lot of story behind them. Things aren't as they seem, nor are your choices. Combined with an admittedly high learning curve, many weapons choices and strategies you have to use your own skill and wits to continue forth throughout this game. This is a game for the patient explorer and the curious observer. Those whom can withstand heavy hardships for a greater good, to unravel this unclear tale. Accept death, because it will be plentyful. Use it as an advantage because like many other games, it will be the base of your progression in this game. This game is not for everyone, but personally, i find it to be a hidden gem. My adult Majoras Mask. It was very fun to watch you guys take on the game~ The first leap, only to land on your face,...it was beautiful. Thank you :D
Oh and as for the gameplay, it bases heavily on weapon type and the amount of armor used. There are many playstyles, from nimble to heavy, all which has its advantages.....or just use magic and blast through the game.
Fraz on twitter says he doesn't like the fact that dark souls doesn't tell you more about certain game mechanics like what humanity is and how to access other skills, which is a fair point. Though I still don't see why he dislikes the idea of looking through wikis to find certain information, cause besides the basics you really don't have to do that much.
Hey Fraser, knowing you guys that was exactly the way I expected this to go. Right down to you not being able to resist picking the deprived, or taking the Binoculars as you're starting item. Glad you enjoyed the game and I hope you have some fun with it in you're own time if you don't decided to continue it on the show. To answer you're hopes about Dark Souls 2, from what I've heard it's supposedly much more friendly to new players. One of the first games major flaws is the opaque nature of it's mechanics and how little it explains, which is something From Software really wanted to fix in the sequel.
I dislike how Fraser makes a generalization about the game AND the fan base by playing for an hour (like a idiot and not trying at all) and then called the gameplay bad. Its like if I was playing Mario and never hit the jump button and called the game an unpolished mess. People don't like Dark Souls because it's hard, people like it because its combat system is deep and rewarding and it doesn't hold the players hand like pretty much EVERY other game this generation it is directly based upon the players skill. Not your level. Not your stats. Not your class. Just your skill. I really hope no one was scared away from Dark Souls by this video because it is a fantastic game.
MrDuhVinci 1) Yeah that is right I didn't think it was a fantastic combat system from my first hour, but I didn't outright dismiss it like Fraser is. 2) He would have gotten to other weapons if he actually tried...
With some of the comments here, this game is truly meant to be played solo or a friend on another system away. (Though Co-op play isn't intended I suppose). Some have already said this I assume, he is playing with a group of friends casually. I mean, this is just for fun. Fun.
The controls and gameplay is more deliberate and maybe a bit unfamiliar for most people used to fast paced hack&slash games that don't punish the player for their mistakes in the same way. Of course DkS has its issues, mostly with the backstab mechanic which is too powerful in pve and pvp.
Probably not the best choice for the casual format of the show but I hope you do return to it eventually, even if it is in your free time. It's a pretty tough game but it's also fairly fun once you get to know the ins and outs.
I really don't appreciate how fraser is simply calling anyone that commented on his video elitists. Sure some of them are certainly elitist, but if someone is so dedicated and passionate about the game and they suddenly see someone who comes along and plays the game and not even bother trying to understand it, how well do you really expect them to handle it? Shame though dark souls was my favorite game of this generation.
Damn it Frash. I hate how for some real shit indie games he pays attention to every shitty detail but in here he just mocks ang goes by. kinda a slap for all those who waited for this.
If you don't enjoy watching a group of friends have a few beers some good natured fun with a game you love, you seriously need to move on from this channel.
4PeacexDarkness Your right, it was harsh, but also true. Not only are you saying that the indie games I have selected for the show are shit, you are also comparing games that I have pre-played and learned to a game I gave a fresh look on the show by popular demand. I take issue with the idea that I was intentionally giving them a "slap in the face".
***** I do want to apologize for my remarks and rudeness towards the indie games, developers and fans. It's how you said, I just expected you to learn a little more about the game before going in as it was as well very demanded. And I have no intention to pass on the channel after all the years. I only wish you and your crew the best luck..
4PeacexDarkness The thing is, I specifically did NOT learn about the game for the very purpose that fans of the series could see a fresh set of eyes take a look at it. I think there is fun in that, and clearly, we had some.
It's playable Fraser. And I hope you continue this. You have a lot of misinformation from the game. This game is all about lore and pvp as a meat. You need to play this and experience why it is so popular and let us journey with you. Beating hard bosses is the most satisfying feeling ever.
I loved this episode. Great length, everybody on/behind the couch in great form, so many game-playing shenanigans. This is what Video Games AWESOME is all about.
Actually, how the guy with the key got in, there's a scene that happened for me, I don't know why but, in that scene, a knight who is helping you drops that guy with the key from above so you can escape.
Seriously, the game isn't that hard if you take the time to learn about it. It's an RPG so as long as you read how your stats and your equipement's stats work(like shield stability and weight vs your roll speed) by pressing select or back in the menus, play with a "decent" build(one or two offensive stats, endurance and vitality and not put points in resistance only or something random like that), take the time to read item descriptions that often tell you want to do next, find a weapon that you like the move set of(really 85%-90% of the weapons are viable no matter how early you get them as long as you like how it plays) and armor(just stay light enough not to get to the slowest roll speed) you like and upgrade it when you can, you will get around just fine. Except one or two moments, the game gives you all you need to get through, just take the time.
Kinda harsh to say a game you've played for 45 minutes needs more polish when it's an RPG... Like, RPG pretty much stands for (you need to invest some fucking time)
slayerming1 After how long? With how much help? Thing is,people are treating this as serious.Did anyone honestly expect him to not be like this and be serious about it? For god sakes people frash loves the rage your giving. Going back to dsp,he makes way worse blunders then what most lets player do.
theShanethedark Well I'm subscribed to this channel and not dsp if that gives you any idea of where I stand. But just the fact how long they took to complete the tutorial and than complaining about game mechanics that he hasn't even attempted to understand is just so frustrating for me. Whatever
slayerming1 Oh, I wasn't aware it was possible to beat this game after 1 hour of playing it. Do tell me how you managed it on your first playthrough, oh great one, seeing as how this is Fraser's first time even looking at this game.
The reason why this game was so good and my best game of the generation was because of the great gameplay, the level design, the cool monsters, and the deep and rich lore. What a great game!
Leave it to Fraser to finally play "the most requested game", only to do the tutorial, and completely fuck up the game as soon as it actually starts...
I got kind of pissed watching this as well, but that was part of the fun. This is Fraser's first time playing, and while he did pretty damn good compared to some other LPs I've seen, it's still his FIRST time playing. It's that good kind of pissed. "GAH! Shit Fraser, dodge, dodge! Fuck this is so entertaining. MOVE GOD DAMN YOU!" Watching newbies is a good portion of the fun of Dark Souls. Fraser, even if you never play this on the show again, I recommend playing it on your own time.
Yes play it on his own time. Cause this game isn't nearly as hard as he is making it out to be. Pewdipie beat it a month ago and though I'm not a huge fan of his I watched cause he understood what the game was trying to tell him. But frazer ehhh, IDK.
You did better than most I have to say. Angry Joe thought he had to fight the Asylum Demon with the nubby sword. It was pretty damn amusing though, I knew you'd take the Deprived and attacking the NPCs was also a typical Fraser move. (I think they might stop attacking you if you close the game and load it again? Not sure about this) I don't think the game works very well for a show like this, too many distractions, but I'd recommend to play it a bit more on your own if you have the time. Kind of funny how everyone plays it now, probably because the sequel is coming out soon.
I wish that Fraser will play at least a bit more of this with Becky or by himself so that he can find out what kind of a game this is and what makes it special. Based on 42:40 he seems to think that the game is pretty simple and linear.
Fraser, I know you've only played the game for a very short period of a very long game but just to inform you as to why people love DS so much and why the community is still thriving 3 years after release and will continue to do so.. no its not JUST its FAIR difficulty or even the huge feeling of achievement it provides throughout, if you are determined/patient enough that is, DS Is a game that, as you learn more about it the more it has to offer, the difficulty of DS is very over-stated and once you play more it won't seem that hard to you. DS is a game that treats you like an adult and rewards those who are observant, there is no gurantee that you will find certain areas, the game doesn't guide you in any direction, its open and you can take most paths at any point, the lore is arguably the best in any game and is left for the community to figure out, the level design and world as a whole is very well designed and interconnected.. the atmosphere in most areas is very well done...the PVP/Covenant system(Which isn't just leaving messages you can actually invade players worlds and fight them or help them with a boss fight) anyway I don't want this post to take up the whole wall so I'll just say that while I dbout it, I hope to see you progress further in this game(or DS2). Its actually a game that is popular among lets players even un-edited. Its not surprising that you didn't love the combat, NO ONE loves DS's combat so early in the game. DS could add alot of great moments to the show, from celebrations from victorys to anger/disappointment/sadness in defeat. It would be a nice change of pace compared to other games typically played on the show.
I loved seeing you guys play the intro to Dark Souls. Thank you for covering it. You did quite well (especially given the distracting environment). I do think you should try playing through to at least the first bell on your own (~10-15 hours of gameplay for a newbie) before writing it off as too hard or only for a certain 'type' of gamer. Judging the game on what you've seen would be like only playing the tutorial intro to Dragon's Dogma (if not a bit worse). Here is where you actually begin to see what actually makes Dark Souls so special. The extremely imaginative environments, the unrestricted metroidvania-style exploration, and the truly terrifying bosses/enemies. The true Dark Souls starts here.
Awesome stuff! Dark Souls is a weird game. I bought it on a whim and played up to a rather tricky boss for new players (the Gargoyles) and died 12 or so times. I actually got so frustrated I wanted to sell the game but I stuck with it. I switched to a new weapon, upgraded it and eventually won. I've now beaten the game four times and, well, it's basically my favorite game ever now. It's entirely skill-based, you see. I can take out the battle I died on 12 times with a crappy weapon no problem now, without dying at all. The only hard part about Dark Souls is learning to get good at it, after that it's not really a difficult game at all, funnily enough. I'm fairly certain if Fraser sat down and got into it, he'd seriously fall in love. If he dug Dragon's Dogma, I have no doubt (the online component of Dark Souls is also far more interesting than the Pawn system of DD).
Are people seriously complaining because he went in blind and was having fun, rather than reading about the games for hours beforehand, and taking it super serious? Amazing...
I don't think Dark souls is a game for the show because a lot of the game is learn from your mistakes, Fraser notice that the first boss was "impossible" first and at the end was "easy" but nothing changed, he was just playing better. That's what people like about Dark Souls, its not dificult, you just have to be better.
I don't see what the big problem is here. Other than the amount of bullshit that came out of Fraser's mouth in the closing minutes of this segment and the chat being too afraid to call Fraser out on that said bullshit, it was fine. Really though, you can't say a game is ''unpolished'' or has ''bad controls'' when you didn't even give a shit about what you were doing and barely beat the 10 minute tutorial in almost an hour. Anyway, casual gamers will always be casual gamers. Just leave your thumb up or down and move on.
Whoa people are uppity on here. I, too, got annoyed at Frash when I first watched VGA because he turned my beloved FemShep into a duck. BUT LO' AND BEHOLD, I now love Space Duck. He takes some getting used to but it's all in good fun. I know there's a stigma about "casuals," but believe it or not some people actually play games to have fun and chillllll.
Fraser played just like anyone who had never played before would, even when i first tried it I had the same opinion as him "Dark Souls is frustrating and fucking hard!'
You guys can continue this, it's not so bad when you get used to it, use the chat when you don't know what to do, and don't hit random NPCs, redo the game, take the master key instead of binoculars and don't take the deprived class, it's easy, really, and this game's story is a MASTERPIECE.
that last part was amusing, i feel like he inadvertently used respite (the counter after parry) move with the club seems fun if a bit of a game breaker with that guard never calming down while may not work for the show definitely should play later hopefully dark souls 2 fixes those problems
I hope this don't turn into one of those cases that some fans personality influence Faser's view on the game. I really belive he would like it if he give it a chance and don't let some people's comments make him think that this game is a "hipster thing".
All I have to say is your beloved dragons dogma has a 78 on metacritic darksouls has 89. Is not a prefect game specially due to the framerate but other than that it has the best gameplay out of modern action rpgs.
Actually the framerates just fine on the PC version. The port has some other issues, specifically with the textures and the Online being terrible. Honestly I think the only obvious flaw in Dark Souls is simply the fact it is a game that you need to invest quite a few hours into it before you start to understand how amazing it is. There's two groups of people in Dark Souls, those who beat the Gargoyles, and those who didn't.
Dragons Dogma is a great game and Dark Souls is a great game. And that's not fair to compare them seeing how one is a hack n slash and the other is a hardcore RPG.one is a free roaming RPG one is a...well I really don't know what run around in Dark Souls is like but its not like Dragons Dogma.Dragons Dogma is a underrated RPG and a fun one at that even though it can piss people off with the no fast travel bullshit and shitty ass pawn(Party members)AI but if you look past that it has a deeo Charatcer creation system a deep level up system and a deep combat system that keeps people going back for more. Not to mention epic fucking boss battles like Shadow of Colossus you can grab on to bosses making it the most bad ass boss fight ever.Want more on the pros look at Angry Joes review of the game.
Ed L If you like rpg you should ge it, the combat is fantastic and the bosses are pretty unique. Probably my second favorite game this past gen after fallout3.
The game can be disliked - I don't think that's the problem. The controls and combat are some of the most highly praised aspects of Dark Souls. For those who don't believe me watch some reviews. Maybe it's just that Frash is one of the few people who dislike the gameplay - and that's fine - but it may also be that the combat is something you really need to learn and get used to - just like everything else in DS. For gamers who are patient and enjoy a challenge Dark Souls is guaranteed to be a enjoyable experience so definitely try it out. For everyone else: either try the game out or don't, but there isn't much point telling other people that it's boring. There ARE people who enjoy it, so it's likely that it's just the game isn't right for you rather than it being dull. You're entitled to your opinion, and what comes with that right is the responsibility to respect everyone else's opinion.
I'm glad you played the game in this setting, having fun rather than delving right in. I could see it getting a bit tedious to play or watch if you die a lot - which is what I hear if you don't fully pay attention. Hosting a show would make it hard to concentrate on everything. One slip up and it's back to square one.
Personally I believe that Fraser played a good game had fun and apparently since from what I've seen this community hates fun they attack him in this video because his opinions didn't match theirs I mean seriously guys lay off he played this game for the first time and was distracted by his friends now does anyone have a problem with this.
newcannonite5648 Elliot Rodger Exactly what Elliot said, this video was a fun typical fraser video, and with any fraser video he makes comments about the game mechanics that people typically don't agree with.
I am a dark souls fan and I found this video enjoyable. The only problem I had was the comments he made about the game at the end. You can't judge a game's gameplay and say that "it could be more fluid" when you don't understand it, especially one with such depth. You need to invest hours to even scratch the surface of dark souls gameplay
Shame fraser may never realize how awesome the souls series is and just see it as a "hard game" You know whats ironic. DS1 Or 2 playthrough would be taking full advantage of the "new vga" with just frash and becky. It wouldn't work with 3 and obviously seen here all 5 but becky reading the comments and frash playing with their more toned down approach would work very well And add a new dimension to VGA. Anyway thanks for finally checking it out frash :)
Ooof. This was really some abysmal play. Literally the worst setup you can start the game with, and then he just angers npc's for the fun of it. It's a game you have to pay attention to and take seriously. You won't get anywhere by clowning around. ****** EDIT: Sorry that I go a little nuts after this point. I love the show and I've been a fan since the AVG days, I just had a lot to say and I want to say that I dont mean any ill will towards Frash-Frash. Watching them play ME1-3 is one of my favorite youtube playlists. Anyways, back ot the original post: ****** I have a feeling fraser didnt really look at the meters on screen. he just mashed attack and complained about the lag on moves, but the reason his attacks were lagging was because he kept draining his stamina. As far as enemies, the....9 guys you fight in the asylum before the demon are not a representation of the sort of challenge the game throws at you. You're more likely to fight an army of noble nights backed by a wizard, or treants frogs and massive golems teaming up on you. The later levels are crammed full of enemies that are as difficult as the early game's bosses, and as big. The TRUE bosses of the game are a massive undertaking and some of the most satisfying moments I've had in a videogame. The best thing about this game is it never takes you out of the game engine when you're fighting. You dont trigger a cutscene kill, you have to kill the boss yourself. The atmosphere is amazing in it's oppressive nature and believable structure. When you see something in the distance not only can you go there, but any souls you dropped will be visible in the exact place you left them even if you're looking at it from the other side of the world. It's a fantastic game and one of my favorite of all time. It's a true example of what you can accomplish when you stick to a strong game design and create enemies and weapons that are interesting and unique. It's not full of shitty QTE garbage or boring arena battles linking rooms together with no threat of death. Any enemy can kill you, but if you pay attention to your surroundings and learn to fight you will do well. There are plenty of bosses I've beaten without dieing, because I stood back and studdied their moves before rushing in. Pacing yourself and knowing when to attack and reposition yourself are the key to winning. This game was designed to flip the table on brainless mashers, because fuck God of War it's total garbage. Holy shit i cannot say enough bad things about God of War it is like a lazy, expensive Devil May Cry with design emphasis replaced by art asset creation budgets.
You need to relax a little. This game surely is challenging, more than most games nowadays, but it's not the "impossible" game that everyone makes it out to be. The biggest challenge is realizing that you can't just speed run through areas (mostly) CoD style, but have to be patient and adapt to the game. When you're used to that and have gotten used to the controls, it's totally fine. Now all the NG+/++/+++/++++/+++++/++++++ are something different.
You need to realize that Dark Souls isn't at all a game that's fitting for this show, and he deliberately didn't pay attention and fooled around like he does with all games on the show. That's what Fraser is known for, and playing games on the easiest difficulty. It's about entertaining, not tryharding.
***** I'm not sure if it was JUST luck or mostly luck and some skill, but he managed to get through the first area better than me or anyone I've ever seen :D
This would be a great game for the show, once you get to play pvp you could summon members of the chat to play with you and help you fight bosses would be awesome.
These comments are too funny. Everyone getting so pissed at Fraser and the crew because they're doing a first impression of the game and the fans of the game get angry because "muh Dark Souls", I imagine there's just a group of fans who just run around getting uppity and pissed at every single person who has a first impression to this game and doesn't like it or doesn't get it right away.
This is a fun and refreshing take on this game. I played through half of Demon's Souls after watching my roommate struggle through the entire game himself, and appreciate how the game makes you realize you need to be extremely careful, smart, and know how to use each and every movement (even the riposte). As such, seeing Fraser and the crew approach the game so casually was like watching a kid poke a fork into a power outlet. Except it's like if that happened in a Looney Tune. I'm not gonna take it seriously. I was afraid this would be painful to watch, but there were a ton of amusing moments in this. And Fraser picking the binoculars instead of a more useful item was worth it for all the jokes, especially Ben's at 12:40 .
Why in the world are there so many dislikes? People requested this like hell (most likely to see the deaths/frage) and when it finally comes and there is death and a little frage, which is hilarious, people get angry? OH YOUTOOBS, you so silly.
Mega Nurd You mean when he pissed off the guy? That, like I said, was hilarious and something you would only see on this show. Apparently Dark Souls fans have similar qualities to Kingdom Hearts fans, which is also pretty hilarious considering the differences between the two.
TheMinett No. More so from what he said I guess. I think it has more to do with youtube than the fanbase as a whole. The DS community that I know is awesome.
Truthorglare z Yeah, I didn't mean aaallll of the fanbase obviously. But for some reason the RUclips fanbase of both games seem to be very over-protective and fanboyish. I just hate people who can't accept any slight criticism given to the things they like.
I laughed my arse off when he attacked the NPC who then proceeded to kill Frash every time he respawned. Some people need to lighten up, it was a fun little quick look, nothing more and nothing less.
For the people wondering if Frasher is going to continue this game or not,he said on twitter that he likely will not, because it makes carpal tunnel flare up really badly.
This was great (including the S&T). I always think the best episodes are the 2 or multi-player episodes where you guy's enjoy yourself be it the game or just having fun! Looking foreward to Donkey Kong (mentioned in S&T) this weekend so see you there:)
So Fraser is making several complaints on his twitter, some that I agree and others that I don't. His first point is that the tutorial doesn't do a good enough job explaining basic mechanics to the player. That's a very valid point that I believe from what I heard From Software has fixed in DSII. Another is that you have to read the wiki to find out basic information, which is fine, though you really only need to find a few things in wikis like what humanities does and how to cast spells and such. Somethings that I don't agree with first is the community. Every time on twitter Fraser complained he got invaded he says "nice community". Now with every game there are a few assholes that tries to mess with you in multiplayer, but majority people on wikis and forums are really nice people like epicnamebro and VaatiVidya. I don't know how he thinks dark souls has a bad community when he plays call of duty which in my opinion has a much worse community. Another complaint is that he doesn't like being invaded while human. This is a fair complaint, but as some of you may know according to the lore of the game as a human in this world you a chaotic species who's goal in life is to simply invaded other humans to steal their humanity to survive(simply put) so it's a game mechanic something From Software made. Now I agree that it sucks getting invaded by others with better equipment than you, but you can choose to be hollow for majority of the time or simply turn of your computer. Another complaint is that the AI is easily exploitable, but that's the point he complained of the capra demon was too easy once you figured out what it was doing, but that's what from software's point is! Dark souls isn't an impossible game at all, it's game that forces you to learn from mistakes and every boss in dark souls is beatable without getting hit once. The last big complaint in this game that I don't understand is grinding. A lot of rpgs and games in general requires grinding, and while it is unpleasant for the most part it really isn't necessary. Besides a few titante and humanities grinding for souls isn't even that necessary in the game especially necessary since bosses and opponents drop a ton of souls. This is much more apparent later on in the game. However if you want an easier game than grinding is sadly necessary. Overall I think Fraser is going into this game with a negative mind which is unfortunate and happened with me with bioshock. Overall I think dark souls is the best game of the generation due to the fun gameplay, environments, music, and that delicious rich lore. At the end of the day dark souls is a cruel but ultimately very fair game. What do you guys think?
I'm a huge Dark Souls fan myself, and yes I'll admit it was hard watching this video. That being said, did anyone here expect anything different? This channel, from what I've observed is simply a group of close friends who want to enjoy video games, and they do casual playthroughs, just relaxing, and having fun. Don't come to this channel if you're expecting some super-MLG-100%-walkthrough of a game, because it's simply not this channel.
Why can't you just play seriously. Like first you completely go balls out with the character customization, then you talk and don't pay fucking attention in an important cutscene explaining exactly what you will be questioning later in the playthrough and then you skip the cutscene and wonder how the corpse got into your cell at the start. For fuck's sake...
Maybe they didn't want pay attention, that's the point they don't care at the moment, they don't have to play seriously the second they start the game.
I've senn them play games I like, waiting for them to get to certain points only for them to talk over or play it "wrong" but I didn't get mad, it turns out people play games differently and Dark Souls is no exception of this fact.
why didnt anyone one on the live stream just tell him that jump attack is only situatonal and that he should have usd his rb and two handed rt on top of that no one told him that the roll was used for dogging enemy attacks to save stamina
I have to say I love seeing people play the game for the first time, takes you back to when Dark Souls wasn't something you knew like the back of your hand. Also it's kind of funny that they went with a harder class to use on they're first try also. I think I made it to the Tauros Demon in 8 minutes using that class and the Reinforced Club.
I'm totally fine with the faffing about and attacking NPCs, I don't mind that he picked the hardcore advanced player starting class and then proceeded to complain about the difficult curve of the game - he's a beginner and the game gives very little direction, so that kind of mistake is to be expected. What I did find a bit irksome is his claim the game has shoddy gameplay and that it needs to have its rough edges polished up in DS2; which just isn't the case, and isn't gonna happen anyway as I've played the DS2 beta and the controls are virtually identical. Watching someone play the game for less than an hour, basically not really pay attention and then judge the game as being not very good is a tiny bit hard to swallow for big fans of the game. I'd say the reason he struggled was because he had a bunch of people distracting him, and he kept forgetting the controls. Once you have a basic grasp of how the game works you can learn to appreciate how tight and polished the gameplay is. It's a game with higher difficulty than most, but it's completely fair in its execution - it rarely feels punishing and every death you bring on yourself. It's not as hard as people make out... It's just challenging. Don't believe all that cruddy hype about how it's the hardest game you'll ever play. It's not - it just doesn't hold your hand every step of the way, it expects you to do some work.
I agree with this very much. The talk about that this game is impossible or so hard that you will have nightmares of it is pure bullshit. It is a challenging game, but completely possible to complete. Nothing is unfair in this game. Especially if you learn the controls first.
@ 11:26 Deacon references the avgn episode where they view the Super Mario Bros. Super Show menu, or the parody they made of the menu. Either way both were pretty funny.
Good lord, I wanna see them fight Ornstein and Smough! Also, I felt kinda the same way about the combat at first, Frash. But play the game for a week or two and you'll realize that it's actually more solid and in-depth than it looks.
This is exactly what VGA is supposed to be. A group of friends picking up a game for an hour and goofing around with it.
Awesome episode.
I miss this T~T
I still come back to this every once in a while, it's fucking hilarious. I'm a huge Dark Souls fan, but you gotta be able to appreciate people just seeing it for the first time not taking it seriously and messing around.
I know, right?
Same!!
Its far from impossible, it is the bane of the head strong , the oblivious and those unable to to die, learn and adapt accordingly. Its hard but almost never unfairly so.
I was literally facepalming that he kept using the overhead leaping attack on his club and then missed every attack.
Ha Fa, you deserve a High Five for that one. *Hagh Fahve*
Glad that the whole gang was here. It made what could have been an incredible frustrating show a joy to watch.
The gameplay is polished. You just didn't know what you were doing, lol.
arkane9b This.
Isn't that the point of a first playthrough? Not knowing what you're doing?
GoogsRS
Then shouldn't he know better then to say those things about the game? I normally love & agree with Fraser but he was playing this game as if he was drunk. He should know better then to say the game feels kunky when hes only used 1 weapon & only played for almost an hour.
arkane9b
So that means the game isn't polished? lol
*****
So that means the game isn't polished? lol
Dark Souls is one of the best games I've ever played
The whole soul series is just one thing to experience
Djees, why all the hate and remarks? Look at all these comments.. People really need to chill out. This here is what this channel is all about: playing games on a couch, having some fun and just pay attention to the details of a game. I've watched many video's and live streams and this is my first comment, but I'm going to get turbo, just to support this AWESOME channel :D Fraser, Becky and the rest of the crew, keep up the good work!
Guys, according to fraser's twitter, he is going to make a video going over his full thoughts on dark souls. Should be interesting !
***** They don't call him Down Syndrome Phil for nothing.
VrAzZLeMeister Did you saw him playing DaS II ? This fucker didn't die until 17th video. I...was speechless.
Игорь Кожурин The apocalypse is among us.....
Really well, with the chat telling him practically everything? Even then he (5 of em) manage to screw it in the worst possible way...
Im guessing there are going to be a lot of " Ohhh I never knew X could do that" moments
Guys calm down, this is a casual gaming show not a professional 100% speed run show. The whole point of the couch is to get the reaction from the crew when they play a game. If you guys want to watch a boring talkless play through without talking go somewhere else, cuz here comedy comes first.
Suika Nine if its a casual show, then a gem like dark souls doesnt belong there.
My favorite of last generation due to amazing gameplay, level design, music, cool bosses, and that deep lore.
slayerming1
it will go on my watchlist, if i ever upgade this graphic card of mine, heh
Yep. The only way you can absolve yourself of that sin is to find the guy at the top of the Undead Parish. That means getting past two bosses. :-P
Eden's Cross
Wow, so Dark Souls 2 is going to be even more forgiving than Dark Souls, which is already more forgiving than Demon's Souls? I wouldn't call that a "fix" so much as pandering to people who should really know what they're doing by the THIRD freaking game.
Dont get all the dislikes, it was just a quick fun little thing. They wernt starting a serious game.....
***** I never said that controls need work. I said that the gameplay does not FEEL fluid. Part of gameplay and feel is the character animations. Even the developer has admitted that they need more polish. How am I off base on that?
*****
To be fair you did pick the worst weapon in the game as your starter.
MrDuhVinci
Yeah. :)
+farfromsubtle character animation is fine. you were drunk and being a ignorant dumb. so stop nagging.
Fraser did a great job with the deprived character and I'm not being sarcastic...His club attack is slow and hard to control.
club moves are faster when you use light attack frash used heavy cause it's for men, if he was playing this alone I'm pretty sure he might get the controls down and enjoy the game more as a result.
31:07 That's a BAD miss
MrDuhVinci
1) Yeah that is right I didn't think it was a fantastic combat system from my first hour, but I didn't outright dismiss it like Fraser is.
2) He would have gotten to other weapons if he actually tried...
MrDuhVinci Thanks MrDuhVinci.
MrDuhVinci The funny thing is, he probably only thinks that because he chose the club which was designed to feel chunky, along with axes and halberds.
Shame though dark souls was my favorite game of this generation.
dyezo Yeah it is a shame that youtubers have to take time and energy to respond to hate mail instead of producing content. Oh well.
***** Kinda harsh...
Beating hard bosses is the most satisfying feeling ever.
this went about as well as i thought it would lol, glad you guys had fun though
Like, RPG pretty much stands for (you need to invest some fucking time)
this guy is like dsp but with a hat.
DSP is way worse.
theShanethedark at least dsp beat the game..
slayerming1 After how long?
Totally how I feel. These game designers made a game I loved to play more than 95% of games out there (at least).
KishinZ yeah so good, more people need to try it! Not nearly as hard as everyone says. Can't wait for dark souls II!
PS4 will have to wait, DKS2 will definitely be the next gaming related thing I'll buy.
KishinZ sadly I'm getting it for pc and it looks like it won't come out for a while :(
Leave it to Fraser to finally play "the most requested game", only to do the tutorial, and completely fuck up the game as soon as it actually starts...
Not sure about this)
I don't think the game works very well for a show like this, too many distractions, but I'd recommend to play it a bit more on your own if you have the time.
This was the best first try at Dark Souls I have ever seen! Really good play, all the while shooting the show - Kudos, Fraser!
If he dug Dragon's Dogma, I have no doubt (the online component of Dark Souls is also far more interesting than the Pawn system of DD).
and more fluid gameplay whaaaaaaaa!!!!! not the games fault you picked a giant club as starting weapone, yea its a club it feels like a club, derp
These comments are full of VGA noobs! Welcome to the show dudes!
Can't believe I missed you guys playing this!
Are people seriously complaining because he went in blind and was having fun, rather than reading about the games for hours beforehand, and taking it super serious? Amazing...
Yes, yes they are.
27:04 *Press this specific button while falling to do a plunging attack*
"So I can press any button to do a plunging attack?"
.....
***** Preach.
+Kctang1130 Still...casuls.
+Kctang1130 Really i just dont like idiots who on top of that are american
+RisqClash No need to hate all Americans, just because of the few.
Fraser played just like anyone who had never played before would, even when i first tried it I had the same opinion as him "Dark Souls is frustrating and fucking hard!'
You guys can continue this, it's not so bad when you get used to it, use the chat when you don't know what to do, and don't hit random NPCs, redo the game, take the master key instead of binoculars and don't take the deprived class, it's easy, really, and this game's story is a MASTERPIECE.
that last part was amusing, i feel like he inadvertently used respite (the counter after parry) move with the club
seems fun if a bit of a game breaker with that guard never calming down
while may not work for the show definitely should play later
hopefully dark souls 2 fixes those problems
33:46 I God damn love when Ben decides to reference AVG.
You haven't played Dark Souls. Argument invalid :P(not being serious)
Ed L If you like rpg you should ge it, the combat is fantastic and the bosses are pretty unique. Probably my second favorite game this past gen after fallout3.
Dragon's dogma is crap.
The only game without Fraser mode
I think part of the reason he disliked it was using the Club and only using the strong attack
Anyways, back ot the original post: ******
I have a feeling fraser didnt really look at the meters on screen. he just mashed attack and complained about the lag on moves, but the reason his attacks were lagging was because he kept draining his stamina.
Wow.
Thirty two lines... you must be really serious about... this... game.
*****
I'm not sure if it was JUST luck or mostly luck and some skill, but he managed to get through the first area better than me or anyone I've ever seen :D
"You won't get anywhere by clowning around."
Stopped reading right there. It's VGA, that's how they roll, get over it.
Very good constructive criticism frashier.....not
dislike....wrong
Denis Haskins, aka Mr Belding is a huge wrestling fan;
dude even has hookups for tickets and inside info.
You can't help but love that guy.
That is amazing!
Was this the last thing they did this night or is there more show and trailer not uploaded yet?
ahhh i cant believe i missed this live!!! man i love darksouls!!!
and watching ppl play through for the first time
whooo darksouls2!!!
This 'playthru' was pure trolling by Frash
I don;t think it was a playthrough at all... it was a first look and a hell of a fun time.
***** glad you had fun with it Frash! It was great to watch!
For the love of god TARGET LOCK
Picks deprived and binoculars, says game is needlessly difficult.
Why in the world are there so many dislikes? People requested this like hell (most likely to see the deaths/frage) and when it finally comes and there is death and a little frage, which is hilarious, people get angry? OH YOUTOOBS, you so silly.
I think the dislikes are from the closing minutes of the segment. That could be just me though.
^w^ it's really not that difficult. Now screwing around in it WILL make it difficult XD hehe
I laughed my arse off when he attacked the NPC who then proceeded to kill Frash every time he respawned. Some people need to lighten up, it was a fun little quick look, nothing more and nothing less.
For the people wondering if Frasher is going to continue this game or not,he said on twitter that he likely will not, because it makes carpal tunnel flare up really badly.
nicolas teixeira On twitter he just got past the capra demon, so he's getting there.
This was great (including the S&T). I always think the best episodes are the 2 or multi-player episodes where you guy's enjoy yourself be it the game or just having fun! Looking foreward to Donkey Kong (mentioned in S&T) this weekend so see you there:)
Following Fraser's Twitter right now is like reading a text adventure Let's Play of Dark Souls. Kinda fun to check in on.
MrJBarracudaL yeah it's interesting to see what he is saying, though I think he is going into the game with too much of a negative mindset.
For all the haters, this is how they play. Get over it. DOnt expect them to be good at what they do. They just play for fun.
*****
I own both dark souls 1 and dark souls 2.
Because *gasp* they want to fuck around and have fun.
You can have fun while playing seriously and actually paying attention
Maybe they didn't want pay attention, that's the point they don't care at the moment, they don't have to play seriously the second they start the game.
As a Souls gamer it just pisses me off
I've senn them play games I like, waiting for them to get to certain points only for them to talk over or play it
"wrong" but I didn't get mad, it turns out people play games differently and Dark Souls is no exception of this fact.
why didnt anyone one on the live stream just tell him that jump attack is only situatonal and that he should have usd his rb and two handed rt on top of that no one told him that the roll was used for dogging enemy attacks to save stamina
I love the old lady narrating voice . if my teacher read like that in English class I would listen more often. it makes it sound so epic
Can you show any less enthusiasm for Dark Souls, Fraiser?
Either way both were pretty funny.
the pc port is a nightmare without dsfix.

"Oh look at that. I've been impaled." :D
Good timing. I'm nearing the end of this. :)
*****
No way - it'd take absolutely forever. It is indeed awesome, though. :-D
Will you guys ever have the Totally Awesome Combo! on Fangamer again? I really want it.
Good lord, I wanna see them fight Ornstein and Smough!
Also, I felt kinda the same way about the combat at first, Frash. But play the game for a week or two and you'll realize that it's actually more solid and in-depth than it looks.
Yeah I don't doubt it. It just feels stiff on first impression for me.
*****
It was like that for all of us first time players, from what i've heard the combat in DS2 feels smoother
***** Very understandable, man. I'm just glad you guys decided to give it a go before DS2 comes out in a few weeks.
***** Many people seem to forget what their first-time play was like when it comes to their favourite games.
I'm so scared to watch this. I'll probably be annoyed as fuck...but I really want to see FrizzFrazz play Dark Souls...
Man did i enjoyed this show like always. :)
33:25 - 33:47 was my favorite part.
what was yours? :D
Hyper difficult? My daughter got further in less time. You're old enough to remember when games were hard!
