The display you were speaking of at Lowe's was a Kraftmaid kitchen and they are semi-custom cabinets not "box". That filler you discussed was for a blind corner cabinet that is necessary for that cabinet. All the things you pointed out in the custom kitchen can be achieved with semi custom with the exception of custom color.
My reference to the term “custom” is meaning a craftsman who hand cuts and measures specifically for your kitchen…not a large company who makes set pieces to be used. Those items are custom additions from their line but it’s all prefabricated. And yes… the blind corner was the only similar items to use for my description of filler. Had to make my point with what they had in store in that area. Just working with what I had in the moment 😜
Custom cabinetry is for those who have a lot of money to throw at a kitchen. Pre-made units come in a range of prices with a huge variety of styles and many different finishes. You can get a perfectly serviceable and stylish kitchen provided you don't go too cheap with off the peg. The place to spend the money is on appliances. Always go with a good named brand and avoid the bundled package.
Cabinet pricing is changing in our crazy world. Right now our custom cabinets are just about the same price as pre-made! It’s crazy! But I agree…plenty of wonderful pre-fab options available in many price ranges. Spend what you can on that portion and definitely invest in appliances if you actually cook😜
Those fillers in the corner are so that you can open the drawers without running into the hardware on the other ones. Also that's a blind corner cabinet. Fillers are also needed so that you have room to open doors fully if the cabinet is against a wall or a panel. Also the filler against a wall will be scribed to the wall, since the cabinets will be square and the wall generally won't be.
Yes those are the reasons for those particular fillers😁 My explanation was just to show an example of what filler is while standing in Lowe’s and that was all that was there🤷🏻♀️😂. It was the easiest way to show people what those filler strips look like 😜
Thank you for this informative videos, it helps a lot. Can you please tell us the different wait time? I assume the box cabinets are ready made so no need to wait unless it is out stock, how long it takes to make these custom cabinets?
Custom cabinets depend on who’s making them. Our company can get some made within a week or two but it all depends on how many jobs the craftsman has going. Typically it’s within 30 days for the most part unless you have a smaller company building them with many orders in line.😃
That's like asking what a car costs. I build cabinets that start at $400 per lineal foot for lowers. It wouldn't take a lot of add ons to get them up to $800 or even a grand. Truly custom cabinets are so much more than size and end panels. Furniture quality cabinets use far better materials (lumber that is hand picked for color and grain consistency), thicker material (doors/drawer fronts finished at .80" rather than .75"). Book matched panels, continuity of grain across drawer fronts, doors, face frames, etc.
I just got these quotes for my kitchen island cabinets: - Stock: 1200-2000$ depending on brand (mid-grade, plywood etc…) - Semi-custom: 2400 - Full custom: 3400 This is all Lowes above - Full custom at a local cabinet dealer: 3000
Lowes “Luxxe” cabinets are just like that, and they are in stock in our area. Valleyvood is the same, however it is cheaper RTE, and it is delivery with 2 weeks.
It depends how big your kitchen area is, but let's say that you have a standard size kitchen 12×12 you can get prefab cabinets for $6000 -$7000 ,plus installation maybe another $2000 ,so basically you can get a new kitchen (prefab ) for $9000 -$10000 with installation, now a custom made kitchen would be around $18k to $25k its gonna be better, prettier, stronger, better hardware and material you can add all the details you want and is gonna last for decades ,the reason why custom made kitchen are more expensive is: labor, better quality materials and they are made from scratch...
Looking to buy prefab cabinets from Lowes But I don't wanna do the installation myself. Does anyone know how much does Lowes or Home depot charge per cabinet to I install? Thanks.
I don’t mind you helping educate the people. Thanks for the input! I don’t have a script. I just talk…and sometimes that means I swap terms unintentionally😜

Wow the Custom kitchen looks amazing ..Loved the tall doors above the counter. Could you please tell me what is the height of the cabinet doors? are those 42inches? Thankyou
Custom cabinets are as good as the painter the customer hire. If he/she knows how to properly paint or stain cabinets then custom cabinets is a much better option. Of course price is a major factor between custom vs prefinished
Many things can be done with certain boxed cabinet lines. BUT there are still set dimensions for each unit/piece. In full custom you can make any dimension you want for any piece to maximize your space. One is not better than the other. Just different options🙂

You're correct, but fillers in general are to cover a big gap, that's what you get when you buy a prefab kitchen, you get what you pay for...

Well explained. What is the % price difference for your custom kitchen if you went for the box cabinets
Depends on who makes your cabinets and what materials they use. For us…Custom costs about 15%-20% more🙂
@@design.build.style. : thanks. For a new construction it makes perfect sense to opt for custom cabinets.

Which material do you use for making cabinet and shutter
Can you tell me the name of the handles of your custom cabinets? Thanks!
I don’t remember the exact name but we source a lot from Top Knobs
Were those custom cabinets made locally or a manufacturer like Wellborn?
Local! 😃
Is it possible to find cabinets in stock built with plywood cases, solid wood drawer with dovetails at Lowes or Home Depot?
Lowes “Luxxe” cabinets are just like that, and they are in stock in our area.
Valleyvood is the same, however it is cheaper RTE, and it is delivery with 2 weeks.
Very informational and helpful, thank you for putting this together!
Glad it was helpful 😄
The extra cost of custom is how much more?
That’s my question as well.
It’s more than double the cost of Lowes cabinets.

Prices vary based on amount of cabinets. Best bet is to get the approximate amount of cabinets needed and go and ask.😃
Drawers, use slides or runners, not hinges, those are for doors. Sorry for clarification

Very true as with most things in construction! The finish work is so important😃
They are “stock” cabinets, not “box.”
Depends on where you live. Both terms are correct 🙂
Everything you just showed in custom can be done with those cabinets from Lowe’s. Especially their Diamond Intrigue line.
Very misleading!
Many things can be done with certain boxed cabinet lines. BUT there are still set dimensions for each unit/piece. In full custom you can make any dimension you want for any piece to maximize your space. One is not better than the other. Just different options🙂
