    holy shit that's why i don't ever go to Richmond unless absolutely necessary!! i've heard too many horror stories about bad drivers in Richmond.

    It's no coincidence that most of the accident videos are from Richmond. Some of the dumbest and most oblivious drivers live there. Must be a bad driver magnet in the middle of town, or something. Hmmm. What could be the reason?

  • @Porschik
    @Porschik 4 года назад +3

    Because those stupid automakers started to supply vehicles with always on instruments. Back the old days when it becomes dark, you won't be able to see/read your instruments without turning your head/side lights on. Today, the dashboard is always on, streets are well lit, and a driver will have no clue his/her lights are off. The good things is that newer cars will have both, front and tail lights mandatory DRL starting September 2020

    I notice many of the people who turn wide are doing the thing where you stare at where you plan to stop (which will be the middle of the lane) and that will often make you end up like that unintentionally. That’s why a lot of miscalculations happen on the passenger side, you will automatically go where you look and if that is directly in front of you in the middle of the road, and you’re not experienced enough, the passenger side gets sacrificed. I see it all the time when I train drivers, and you can see it in “Canada’s Worst Driver” eye of the needle course.

    • @WaldoBC
      @WaldoBC 3 года назад

      I never thought of this. I don't disagree. But, I have another perspective. It involves perspective. If they stare at the curb, it constantly looks like it's coming at them, so they steer away. I think the driver could have been staring too long at the left curb.

    I never get wide turners. My wife who JUST got her full license doesn't on my car which is a Jeep Compass, which requires a harder turn on the wheel then what she is use to training in a Civic or a Mazda3 or whatever. Some people seem to develop it like a bad habit where they are perfectly in the turning lane then suddenly crosses to the left/center lane to make a left turn...and vis versa.

  • @anthonydeguzman9967
    @anthonydeguzman9967 4 года назад +2

    The reason why they may make a wide left is because they are from countries that drive on the left side of the road (eg. Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, etc.). That's my thought because I had to adjust in Australia. However, this is the reason I avoid Richmond.

    • @InevitableTruthTeller
      @InevitableTruthTeller 2 года назад +1

      The wide left is the least of their driving problems. Blocking passing lanes, letting people out of the car in the middle of moving traffic, missing a turn so they stop and block everyone trying to get across three lanes, turning without looking, hitting barriers, rubbing parked cars, changing lanes without looking and on and on it goes. That said, they aren't the problem. The real problem is issuing licenses to them. Bad drivers are bad drivers, no matter what race they are from. If one particular group has a 90% failure rate, so be it. 4,000 pounds of hurtling death should not be operated by nightmarish drivers.

    • @seadub1630
      @seadub1630 Месяц назад

      The reason they do the wide turn is they forgot they are no longer driving the semi, they are now on their way home. Take that with a grain of salt if it didn't immediately sink in.

    • @farangatang
      @farangatang 5 лет назад +1

      Auto lights will always turn your rear lights on. They are driving with DRL on which means even if their car has auto lights they have the switch in the off position. All cars should remove headlight switches and just have full lights on when car is on!!

    The wide turn is definitely a unique Vancouverism. I think we just do a really poor job when people are first learning how to drive of teaching how to judge distance to the curb. People think they're right up alongside the curb when they're really not and to avoid rim damage they flare their turns.
    I agree it's annoying but I think if we had better driver education on this it wouldn't happen. I barely notice it when I travel elsewhere so I think it really is just a Vancouver / BC thing.

    • @Combatpzman
      @Combatpzman 6 лет назад

      Agreed. Outside of the lower-mainland I don't see it much. I think the driving force is the huge shift in recent years from smaller sedans to SUV's. The design of modern cars also makes it very hard to see where the front of the vehicle is, which only makes matters worse. I know if I didn't have my seat set to full height (I'm 5'11) it would be hopeless to see where the front of my car is. Never felt the need to swing the opposite direction to make a turn in any vehicle, other than the time I drove a 72 passenger bus.

      I'm an advocate for mandatory re-licensing and driving tests every two years. It'll get these goofs off the road and also give the gov't more money to spend on infrastructure and stop screwing the WORKING class on taxes yo pay for it all..... but then again its politicians, not smart people.

      @@wongscp1701 Me too! I wrote a letter to the editor about that back in 2007 after a string of silly accidents involving seniors pressing the wrong pedal or being in reverse instead of drive. As you might imagine it wasn't a very popular opinion at the time. God forbid you're ever held accountable for being a crappy driver.

    Lived in Asia where there are tons and tons of bicycles. I’m not 100% sure if this Is taught in driving school but I saw every single driver doing that extra wide turn was if they were a semi truck to have a full view on who is in your blind spots that includes, pedestrians running, motorcycles which are allowed to go between cars, Electric bicycles which are going like 35km/h and jay walkers.Drove cars and rode motorcycles for 7 years in Asia including japan they all do the same. This must be that explanation u look for !

    So many people are unaware of proper driving laws in BC. We see people turning into the wrong lane all the time. Seems the only time people can get it right is when it's a double turning lane

  • @peteryvr3329

    Reason no taillight is they use auto control for light which some cars turn front light on but doesn't turn taillight on, or thinking their daylight running light is on no need to switch light to full. Dumb people not getting educated to drive , blame it on too much reliance on technology and also no testing on this during road test.

    • @seadub1630
      @seadub1630 Месяц назад

    again, love your running commentary - keep it up!
    To address the issue of not turning into the correct lane / turning to wide - i think it come down to education. I think we do a poor job at educating new drivers. Yes we go through the graduated licensing, but there needs to be more emphasis on educating drivers.
    I have given up trying to flash my lights at people that don't have their lights on in the dark. Ignorance and completely unaware of their surroundings.

    I didn't particularly notice the wide turn (other than with semis and other very large vehicles) before until someone driving a Mercedes sedan (Car2Go) almost swung her car into mine while making a left turn. I horned her and she looked confused. Truly bizarre.
    I also heard the driver of the first vehicle was an 80 year old. Could it be a case of goosing the gas pedal instead of the brake out of panic? Should elderly drivers be re-tested at a certain age to ensure they are fit for the road?

    • @vancouversworstdrivers
      @vancouversworstdrivers  6 лет назад

      I know wtf that's why people need dashcams to defend themselves when someone swings wide! Someone commented on here that it might be a medical emergency...but yes if it's just old age I think older people should be tested again. My grandmother admitted that she was no longer able to drive which I respect. Some older people take soooo long to even get in their car....do you think they really have the reaction time to drive properly?

    Flash your hi-beams at their rear-view all you want, they have mental tunnel vision. All their attention is focussed on the pavement lines and markings 1-2 car lengths ahead, other sensory inputs suppressed. "Merge sign? Stop sign? Where? I'm just trying to find my way and it's even darker than usual!"

  • @cbman4767
    @cbman4767 Год назад

    People who drive without lights on do it because the dashboard on new cars light up every time the car is started and also so do the daytime running lights. They can see the reflection of the running lights on the car in front of them but don't know that none of us behind them can see them.
    I have some female friends from Pennsylvania and the law is even in overcast or light rain ALL the car lights MUST be turned on.
    I asked the VPD why they don't pull these people over and ticket them. They told me that most of the time the person is impaired and impaired takes too much paperwork to complete.

    as a fellow lower mainlander (richmond was where I grew up), all of these happenings are getting more and more frequent, the no lights on at night I blame on newer cars, cars from the 90's back had no LED dash lights or automatic dash lights, even pre 88 they had no day lamp function, now a days everyone thinks because the dash lights are on and the day lamps are on that all there lights are on. car manufacturers have made it easier for the stupid to drive sadly.
