Using a trash bag as a pack liner is the kind of thing we learned years ago in the scouts, the expensive (100 eur+) dry bags just don't make much sense at all unless canoeing or similar.
Bonus: bring spare trash bags so you can pick trash up.
Going to have to try switching from a mummy type sleeping bag, the quilt does look more comfy.

One reason I like the Nalgene style of bottles is the really wide mouth that they have. This is really helpful when filling up from shallow pools or creeks

I also stuff my quilts and clothes into a contractor bag to eliminate all that dead space; however I use 4 small Walmart drybags, 1 for a ditty/first aid, 1 for a poop kit, 1 for electronics, and 1 for my hammock straps in case they get wet or sappy. That way, I won’t have small random items just floating around and lose them.
Question: I’m trying to upgrade the audio on my videos. What lapel mic are you using and do you also use it for outdoor trip videos? I film everything on an iPhone xr.

Just got a new down bag, not really any lighter or smaller than my lightest synthetic bag but the comfort rating is upto about 10c better .
Might be able to compress it smaller but only got it yesterday so I'm letting it relax and loft up

    Great tips!
I'm still not sold on the "quilts are more comfortable" argument. Lighter, yes, but I have both a HG topquilt and a traditional sleeping bag, and I'll take the weight hit for the sleeping bag 9 times out of 10 when sleeping in a tent just for the ability to zip it up and eliminate drafts when I toss and turn throughout the night. You can unzip a sleeping bag to vent; you can't zip up a quilt to eliminate drafts. For me, hammock = quilt; tent = sleeping bag. Obviously everyone's different; that's just my opinion.
One more I would add - if you're already using a pack liner, consider ditching the backpack cover (I think this falls under "don't pack your fears"?) Maybe pack it if the weather forecast calls for unrelenting downpours, but for a typical trip, if you're using a pack liner, everything that needs to stay dry will stay dry, making the pack cover unnecessary redundancy, IMHO.

If you're getting draft issues on the ground, its usually caused by incorrectly positioned pad straps. I know a few of my friends had draft issues, but by positioning the toggles of their pad straps closer to the edge of their pads, it didn't cause the quilt to lift up when they roll around, so no drafts.

When you read this keep in mind I hike ( Hammock Camp ) in Florida so cold weather is not a problem. Know your gear and go with a pack made for that amount. A larger bag will cause you to dump more stuff in it. That's nothing but Human Nature , have a void ( empty area ) you have to fill it. Take what you need , not what you want. You'll find out the needs will be used and the wants will not be used. One of the greatest mistakes ( My thought ) is saying ... " This weighs nothing " Not sure about anyone else but the this weighs nothing can only be air or a void in the pack , everything else weighs something. Do you really need 6 changes of clothing? One to wear , one to change into should do it. Wash one wear the other. I always leave a complete ( clean ) set in the vehicle for after the trip. One other way to drop your weight that few folks mention. Lose some body weight if you are overweight. You carry that weight all the time so if you lose 20 pounds and have a 20 pound pack you balance out the weight to your bodies non pack weight.
    A.....200 without a pack , 20 lb pack = 220 lbs.
B.....180 without a pack , same 20 pound pack = 200 lbs. ( 20 lbs savings on you.) Myself I found that a ultralight pack is the Cat's meow. It's 8 pound base weigh is the same as one gallon of water. Close to the weigh of my empty pack was back in the 1960"s.

you're spot on with the "this weighs nothing" comment. One of these days, I think it would be cool to take one of my friends packs, and do a pack shakedown, and weigh out all the little things they think weigh nothing, and see how much it really is.

There are much lighter Nalgene bottles than the one in your video. I think they are called Ultralite bottles. I have a couple and they weigh 3.75 ounces, so they are only a couple ounces "heavier" than a Smartwater bottle. 4 or 5 extra ounces for two bottles isn't much at all. A Nalgene because it is much more durable, more than likely will last me the rest of my life. I can also take it to work and put ice in it, and use it at home as well, dishwasher safe too. Enjoy fatherhood, hopefully mom and the baby are doing fine, dogs too! By the way, saw Messier play in the old WHA for the Cincinnati Stingers.

Nalgene bottles aren't nearly as bomb proof as folks seem to think.. I've seen a bunch crack on trail, and my fiance has had 2 crack on her in the past year.
Seeing the moose in the WHA days would have been awesome! He was my fav player growing up, I even wore 11 when I played hockey in my younger years
