      As someone who has been mechanicing for over 50 years on cars, trucks and heavy equipment, I would not recommend many of the new tractors. Many have become so mechanically and electronically intricate that the average person cannot service or repair their equipment. Honestly, if the older equipment will do the things you need to do, you are better off rebuilding older, perfectly serviceable rolling stock. Even better is that your initial price will be much lower. There were thousands and thousands of these older tractors built. It is often easy to find a second tractor of the same model, running or not, for a low price which can be used as a parts source.
      I think that a great promotion would be to get the local Massey-Ferguson dealer to work with the M-F corporate office to have the factory or local dealer do a complete restoration on the tractor. I can see how they could get a great promotion and advertising campaign out of it.
      I live about 2.5 hours south of Talasbuan and I will begin restoring the 1968 John Deere 2030 that I purchased from my neighbor. Really.

    Your PTO lever will not engage - the clutch has to be adjusted. Find an old owners manual to see how. On the snowblower, it probably has a slip/friction clutch. If so, tighten up the 5-6 nuts, to increase the friction. Thank you for your great channel! Bill

He lives in Minnesota where it is very cold in the winter as it is at your home. The name of his channel is "Northern Seclusion." If you could contact him perhaps he could help you with your old Massey. Another one of our faves is an owner of an old Massey. He lives in Canada. The name of his channel is "The Outsider." I hope one of them will be willing to help you. I had a Ford tractor and that was so long ago I don't think I'd be any help. You have a tractor that is highly prized by many folks, and I hope you can get it running smoothly.

    The ignition switch is wired wrong. You have a start position and a run position on the ignition key. Has the tractor been converted from 6 volts to 12 volts

    • @Talasbuan
      @Talasbuan  5 месяцев назад +10

      Aha! That could absolutely be the case. Yes, it is 12 volts now. I need to find some wiring diagram. Thanks!

    • @55sargeshotrods
      @55sargeshotrods 5 месяцев назад +8

      When you turn the key to start that energizes the starter solenoid. When you let off of the key it sends 12 volts to the ignition coil. If it has been converted from 6 volts to 12 volts that’s why you have the resistor

    Service and maintenance manuals for just about every piece of equipment ever made are all online. If you get the manual, there will be a wiring diagram for the tractor. It will be like a logic puzzle and you can see where the wires should be going. The service manual will also have drawing and photos of the hydraulic valve that is leaking. You may have to take the entire valve apart and compare it to the drawings. There may be a small gasket, o-ring, or copper crush washer missing from the previous repair. Comparing what you have to the drawings should reveal what is missing. I put an oil heater in my forklift's transmission so I could plug it in when I plugged in the engine heater. It made a big difference.
    The clutch should be a two stage clutch where you push down part way it will disengage the tractor's motion and pushing down farther should disengage the power take-off (PTO). That may be the source of your problem in making the engagement change.

    I wish I were there to help you with the tractor. Our family had a farm and a sawmill. I've been working on tractors, cars and trucks since I was a child. I have a pretty good idea what needs to be done. If the starter is going out and sticking in the flywheel, you may have one or both of two problems. The starter gear, shaft and spring may need to be cleaned and greased. The next thing to check is the spring that retracts the gear itself is not broken or is too weak to pull the gear back. There may also be a little friction clutch on gear itself on the side away from the flywheel that may need to be freed up or the starter gear assembly may need to be replaced. I know you probably have it figured out by now, but it would be nice to be able to speak with you on the phone. Good luck with the tractor. It is a good brand of tractor and should serve you well for a long time once you fix all the bugs in it.

    Does this engine have glow plugs? Probably so. That extra little relay is to energize the glow plugs. The ignition switch needs an intermediate position to support that or sometimes they just have a push button to energize the glow plugs through the relay. I hope this helps.

    Maybe a shear bolt in the snow blower is broken off. It is a soft bolt inserted between the drive shaft and the blower. It breaks when you happen to drag up a big rock into the snow blower so it doesn’t damage the power take off.
    I think you need a new key for the start. The square black box looks like a capacitor to push a little more electricity down the line. Might possibly added it because of the starter being bad, but I don’t know. Good luck with the repairs!

    Just watched the latest episode, love the work on the Massey Ferguson tractor, reference the not being able to engage the PTO without stopping the tractor, I recall driving a similar era David Brown 995 tractor in the British Midlands when I was a 14 year old boy and to get the PTO to engage or disengage you had to depress the tractor clutch fully until it touched the cabin floor, ie fully depressed, I remember this as I could only just do it at that age whereas the clutch only needed to be half depressed to enable the driving wheels/gears to be disengaged, might not be the same but worth trying?
    Love your videos :))

    The ignition switch might be bad. When you turn the key to start and let go it should go into the run position After watching the rest of the video I’m pretty sure the ignition switch is not wired right

    I have also a CubCadet snowblower and it is a really good machine that starts easy and I never use the electric start as it is so easy to pull start the machine. You have to change the oil every year and keep all linkage etc oiled regularly. In the spring you empty the tank from gas and oil all moving parts and when wither comes you start it up for some time to heat up and then change the oil. Usually snowblowers don't have any air filter to clean or change but check if you have and maintain it to and you will have good running machine for years to come. The problem with the PTO on the tractor could be the clutch system, if there are double clutch system the one for the PTO can be stuck and not disengage, the you are trying to release the drive with load on the gears and it will be very hard and not good for the gears. The electrical you should remove all and install a new starter lock with new wires to the solenoid so the power is only on when you are in start position with the key and when it goes back to the run position the power will be broken to the starter just as you little extra switch.

    Yay the tractor is working... at least to a certain extent. Why don't you guys try to do a "go fund me" so we could all contribute to helping you guys getting a new/better tractor? Yaaaay for the windows finally! We also have very cold temps in Montreal. I love winter so all is wonderful here! Beautiful video again dear friends and Ivar's smiles are such a blessing to watch! 🙏💙💫

    I remember years ago seeing a video of a house in Sweden that had put a large barn size greenhouse over the house they lived in.🤣🤣This meant their house was warmer and even on the coldest snowy days, the area around their house, was much milder with plants and no snow or wind. 😎Must have been very expensive though. On a smaller scale, a lean-to wall greenhouse could be added to a side of the house with a door, so this would be like a conservatory in summer and help insulate the living room in winter, as the exterior wall would then be inside the greenhouse. I have also read that if you pile up snow onto the side of a house it has a great insulating effect, just like an igloo (perhaps with a plastic liner to protect the timber). A large wall size log store might also increase insulation. -25c is the same temperature as a walk in freezer in a supermarket warehouse or food factory!

    I feel your pain. I have a Bobcat that, when its working, is awesome. We bought it at an auction and it came with no manuals, so when something breaks it's trial and error to get it working correctly. Keep on plugging away and you'll figure it out.

    I would love to live in Sweden on a piece of property like yall got it would be heaven to dip in my own beautiful stream and then relax in a warm nice sauna! I’ve lived in a very hot and humid climate (Florida) all my life so I would to move to Sweden! And Ivar is so cute I love to hear him talk but I don’t know what he is saying when you don’t put it in English at the bottom. Lol!!!😁😁😁😁😁

    You’re doing amazing
    We’re following with eager trepidation.
    We had the same issues with the pto clutch on our Massey.
    It has a two stage clutch, press halfway down to disengage the wheel drive and down fully to disengage the PTO. You can adjust it but it may be that it’s just worn.
    The key switch is just the wrong one that’s why the modern relay was added previously.
    Lucas key switches come in different configurations. I believe you are using the simpler on/run style but would require a version with on, run and a sprung start position too.

    Cool, in our Swiss dialect, we call an arrow "Pfiil"! And "Schneckä" and "Muschle"... ;)
    While I'm not very interested in tractors or machinery, it's all part of the package and I was pleased that you were able to get it all going, what a learning curve.
    I really enjoyed the privilege of seeing your Jul episodes (some of which weren't very short!). It was nice to see you both more relaxed and smiling. Everything looked very cosy and so nice to see you being part of your family and community. I know life must be quite difficult sometimes but occasionally it's a bit worrying when you are stressed, so it was nice to see you enjoy the Advent season with your Jul calendar.

      We are having the same 'issues' in CNY. it was very cold (single digits) for a week & now back up in to the high 30s-40s. All of our snow melted & rain, rain, rain. Feels like we are just constantly mucking thru mud this winter. nothing will harden up. snowmobile industry/& ice fishing industry (live near Oneida Lake) really taking a hit. Wondering how our spring will go????

    Putting the PTO unit on in some models needs to have the engine slowed down, clutch released, switch the lever to PTO give more it fuel and let off the clutch.
