I think that the lower pitches would be harder to play given the mouthpiece is the same size, so as a result it just puts the harmonics a lot closer together in the played range, kinda like a horn but not in tune :P

And Colton's right, the mouthpiece makes a huge difference. To me the biggest difference is the much lower Q factor, meaning that the lips have way more pitch range available.

I have an idea. If you have a trombone that you don't really care about, you should take off the outer slide and duck tape a piece of garden hose to the ends of the inner slide.

Tape a sax mouthpiece onto trumpet, I did it and it works decently (takes a lot of control tho u have to be good at sax overtones)
