for those that are curious, you don't have to go under the car like this guy says in the video to change the rear 02 sensor, it's right behind the engine, in the middle down on the exhaust pointing up, just make sure you have a long ratchet extension
Thank you for the information. I had this code at 120,000 miles. Considering my engine was never smoking, or lacking power. I didn't think my catalytic converter was bad. It was still getting good mileage, per gallon. I watched a Scotty Kilmer video, on how to check it with an exhaust back-pressure gauge. I changed the O2 sensor, and problem solved.
@@WorldWideMediaGroup1 did you get p420 fixed? I changed the upstream sensor and did not fix the code. i might change the 2nd sensor soon. I have changed the valve cover when i got the car, just to rule that out.
@@ejrc314 Well... Turns out. The head gasket was broken. The mechanic told the warranty company, something that voided the warranty. After he took the engine apart. I had the car voluntarily repoed, because of mechanical malfunction. The lien holder, Chase bank. Took the car, sold it in an auction. For more than I owed, and less than the repair. It totally recked my credit. Even tho, the bank got out way better. A vehicle repossession really wrecks your credit.
Thanks Dad! I’ve replaced my PVC Valve about a year ago and it went away after that, rough idle, difficulty climbing hills, low speed, all fixed. Now it’s the same code, but, about two days ago it went away. I’m at about 88,000 miles, any thoughts.
My 2014 Cruze has 72,800 miles on it, and today my check engine light came on. I got a scan tool to it and this came up. Very disappointed, couldn’t even make it 100,000 miles without a major repair. I consider this a major repair because this is something that is more than just regular maintenance, and is expensive to replace. At my local autozone they showed me some ranging from 300$ all the way up to nearly 1000$! Also my coolant is leaking, and I have yet to find out where.
i had the same issue. I replaced the reservoir plastic tank, did not fix the issue. I could see water on my driveway but did not know where it was coming from. Found the leak. Facing the car, the leak was on the radiator elbow, bottom left corner. That worked for a while and then I had to replace my water pump and timing belt.
My cruze threw a circuit short code for my o2 sensor and I replaced it recently and my catalytic converters was replaced less than 35k miles ago but now it’s saying it’s working less efficiently, what could be wrong
The upstream and down stream oxygen sensors are exactly the same. They just plug into different areas of the car. So it doesn’t matter what the amazon link says it will fit in either upstream or downstream
ACDelco 213-4699 GM Original Equipment Heated Oxygen Sensor - Upstream $43.97. ACDelco 213-4698 GM Original Equipment Heated Oxygen Sensor - Downstream $29.33. One is a lot more than the other. Not trying to fight. But can you see where I'm coming from. Thanks for getting back to me!
Thank you for the video. Do you have the wiring diagram of downstream sensor to the ECM please? because I might have a short in somewhere because I have upstream sensor readings is higher than the upstream one.
I replaced my O2 sensor and new converter at same time no luck code came back on when I replaced the converter looked up and noticed looked like a crack in the tubro near the gear lacking power up a hill the original converter was clean as CAn be so don't let a garage tell you need a converter it's not the problem at all
Hey brotha! Thanks for sharing the video. I just have issue with p0420 code on my Toyota Echo. I am going to troubleshoot it. Seems like fuel economy is not effected. Cheers!
catalytic converter for 2014 Chevy Cruze 1.4L Turbo: I bought one from 1A Auto part number @/1aeem00830. My garage mechanic installed it and 30 minutes later P0420 resurface again. what should I do next?
if it is an off-market catalytic converter, then you should buy an OEM one. it may be more expensive but it has to meet certain requisites that the off-market doesn't meet.
had this code on my daughters car.. had the dealer swap the cat and o2 sensors and the light still came on.. just put new plugs and coil and now no code
I have a 2008 Chevy malibu I replaced both catalytic converter both 02 sensor's and flex pipe run 100% better but check engine light came back on. Help!
Yout mention that clip is a little "funky". Any chance you can explain how to disconnect it, for the life of me I can't figure it out!!! I've got the O2 sensor disconnected from the engine, but can't get it unplugged from that electrical delphi connector!!
Bryan Certantes yes, I used a flathead screwdriver to pry the plastic piece on top on the connection. Pull it up far enough and it slides right out, that top sleeve locks the connection in place.
Dude, you need to actually show us what you’re talking about. You didn’t take any parts off in this video and show us anything you did to the engine. Doesn’t help that much.

Part number for new 02 sensor??

Chevy Cruise vehicles are lemons ! Nothing but problems, and when you fix one issue then it will be something else
180k on mine. Besides a PVC issue and wear and tear items likes plugs and 02 sensors, I've had zero issues.
Yes. Nothing but minor issues on mine but the good thing is that most parts on not that expensive. But I still regret buying this car!
Normal maitaince 2013 115000 miles
Indeed worst car ever
Worst car

Coolant leaking could be the water pump
Could be the coming from the fill reservoir to the thermostat housing. Just right if the oil fill cap.
Same boat 2016, 91K
just happened to me today 2014 at 65k miles 😑 atleast it's a easy garage fix!

You from Kentucky? Sounds just like my brother
Thank you for cutting to the chase that's all I wanted to know which O2 sensor is the most likely to go bad with this code
Can a broken flex pipe before the cat cause this code?
I’m not sure about that. Does anyone viewing or in the comments know the answer to this?
@@dadfixesreviewsridesandinv309 yes it would be an exhaust leak.
Did you replace both o2 sensors in the end or just the upstream? I've read I should replace both at the same time regardless of which one is faulty
You Definitley should. Might as well
could it be second( downstream) sensor???
I have 211,000 and just got the code for p0420, I changed the oxygen sensors 60,000 miles ago.
P0429 has plagued me for months and I can pass me smog. Gonna try your reconditions keep my fingers crossed.
I'm confused with my Chevy Cruze Lt 1.4 tubro I have replaced converter and O2 sensor and still have a code Po420 any help would be appreciated

Hey man you ever figure that issue out??
Just got P0420. 2012 Cruze 1.4L Turbo. 168,100 miles
Trying to understand... You said it would be the Upstream Oxgen sensor... The part you listed from Amazon is the Downstream. Help please?

I would go by what a deco specifies then. The upstream o2 censor is usually the one that goes bad and needs to be replaced
Sounds good. Thank you so much for you time.
I had the same code changed the cat paid 200 for it and the whole exhuast and the code came back on a month after , 2004 Honda Accord ex sedan
Thank you for the video.
Do you have the wiring diagram of downstream sensor to the ECM please? because I might have a short in somewhere because I have upstream sensor readings is higher than the upstream one.
No I don’t. There is a Cruze talk forum that probably has that. Search for them on google

If your car has 200,000 miles its also your 02 sensor if you get p0420 why do I know well use scanner give you more than just the codes
What scanner do you recommend? Thanks...
Changed valve cover 02 sensors and the Catalytic converter and the check engine light is still on
Listen for an exhaust leak
Clear the light and see if the same code comes back after a few drives...you may well have more than one issue going on.
maybe ur pcm is bad
My wife's car has that code and now it doesn't want to start. Is this issue related? There aren't any other codes at all.
Hey man I was dealing with the same problem come to find out it was the coil pack try changing that
Can can a value cover the gasket have a leak can it cause 420 because it mess with the fuel trim
No it's exhaust related

Thanks Dad for showing how to fix this . Gonna be attempting this soon.
Well a bad catalytic converter cause Reduce Power to Engine, Traction Control and Service Needed.
Not always. What your explaining sounds more like a clogged cat
Hell yeah it does f Chevy Cruze
My check engine light will go on for this then after a couple days turn off
My 11 cruze has 225,000 miles and I just got the 420 code.
What was the result? What did you do to fix it?
What happen ? Did you change the hole cat or just senor.?
Did you ever did the PCv Valve? Please respond
Yes but it was covered under factory warranty at the time so I let the dealership do it
YouCanFixIt oh ok. Can you kindly do a video on it ??

Good info, thanks for sharing!
I have 148k on my cruze right now maybe I need a new one 🤔
What did you end up doing? Did you replace the Cat? Or did you find something more simple?
if o2 sensor or pcv valve goes bad you get a code for them. p0420 is a bad cath converter buddy
My cat was replaced 20k miles ago. P0420 is back on. 😪
jeremy about the same for me too, and mine just came on yesterday. From what I hear it could also be oil leaking through our piston rings
I cleared it and it hasn’t came back on since. Mine doesn’t consume any in between services.
jeremy I cleared mine too and reset my fuel trims and it hasn’t came back on since so hopefully we should be good
jeremy how did you fix it
So, ultimately it was NOT the Cat... Please tell us what you did to fix this....
