    2 Truths & Trash Playlist (All Episodes): • 2 Truths & Trash
    Here's a list of questions that will be answered in this video:
    - Can you use a phone speaker to blow out a candle?
    - Does hitting one tuning fork cause the other to make noise?
    - Does spraying Febreze on a Red Apple allow you to turn it blue with a heat gun?
    - Can you use a magnet and Styrofoam to easily make a compass in water?
    - Is hose water flammable?
    - Does cutting through a plastic bag with a hot knife create two bags?
    - Can you make a perfect circle with a string and a bubble soap film?
    - Does steel wool lose mass or gain mass when burned?
    - Can you pour water between two glasses using string?
    Note: A couple of years ago, I saw a video of someone pretend to use a heat gun to change an apple's color, and I wanted to credit them, but I can't find the video unfortunately.

    Defied my expectations on the steel wool one. I absolutely expected you to say it got heavier, since it is rather counter-intuitive.
    Well, since the claim was that it gets lighter, I knew immediately which one was fake lol

    • @tylisirn
      @tylisirn 4 месяца назад

      Everything we burn gets heavier when it's burned, because it's capturing oxygen from the air to form oxides. However, most things we burn have *gaseous* combustion products at ordinary flame temperatures (CO2 and H2O - steam), which means the extra mass floats away and isn't left behind with the ash. Iron oxide (rust) is solid at any reasonable temperature, so it remains in place.

    • @solsystem1342
      @solsystem1342 4 месяца назад +1

      @@tylisirn
      Actually, everything gets lighter. Assuming you look at all the ingredients and products. Combustion releases energy in the form of heat which means that the total reactants (oxygen and the fuel) lose some chemical potential energy and due to E=mc^2 that loss in energy causes an itty bitty bit of mass loss. It's totally unnoticable but, I think it's bonkers to think about the same way that nuclear reactions in the sun convert mass to energy so does the metabolic processes powering our bodies (just waaaay less of the mass by percentage)

    Round 1: I know B is true, it's called resonant vibration. The others seem equally believable to me. But I'm gonna vote A, because I thought I heard someone blowing with their mouth. So I'm gonna say A is trash. (Wow, you really got me there. Should've known better than to think you'd actually let that slip through!)
    Round 2: I'm voting B on this one. I know that A is true, that's just the mechanism behind a compass. C is also very believable, since if the plastic stays molten long enough, it should just weld together. B, on the other hand... I know that some contaminates can make water at least appear to catch on fire, but I'm pretty sure that's for a flammable gas being dissolved in the water, like methane. I don't think the stray particles from a garden hose will do that. So I'm gonna say B is trash. (Sweet! Got one!)
    Round 2.5: I'm gonna say B again. While your ISP can't see the address on your internet data requests while using a VPN, the data does still need to go through your router, so they should still be able to measure the raw volume. So I'm gonna say B is trash. (Got it again!)
    Round 3: Man, B cannot catch a break. Steel wool actually gets heavier when you burn it. This is because combustion is an oxidation reaction, and the oxidation product of steel wool is a solid, iron oxide. This means that the formerly gaseous oxygen is now a part of the solid mass of the steel wool. This differs from carbon-based fuels like wood, whose oxidation product is gaseous carbon dioxide, and thus gets lighter after combustion. So once again, B is trash. (Happy I got it, but pissed at myself for not noticing the scale not being zeroed. I clearly saw the negative sign was lit up, but that didn't register in my brain as how you'd faked it lol)

  • @christopherg2347
    @christopherg2347 4 месяца назад +1

    3-1 Unfair. I know sound fire suppression works, but it doesn't involve any blowing sounds.
    3-2 I knew that is how compasses work. And actually worked on a Haribo machine before, they use hot knives and press.
    The reason not to use your garden hose is because it won't do anything most of the time, but puts you in danger all the time.
    2.5 not even a question how fake the middle one was. The ISP sees the VPN traffic they are delivering.
    3-3 Damit, you got me confused on the direction of the weight change.

    Round 1: I’m pretty sure that A w/o post-it note works and that shouldn’t change it, and I know B works, so C is trash.
    Round 2: B is trash. Like, obviously. And the other two should work as described although if you aren’t careful you might make a mistake and flip the polarity of the magnet for A.
    2.5 B is definitely trash; the data still flows through your ISP, just encrypted so they can’t read it. A can be too, depending on the service; often those times are global not timezone-based. C is true as regards a VPN but I don’t know if its claims about The Office are.
    Round 3: A is true. B… I’m not sure about; conventionally, burning reduces mass, but with some weird materials it can increase it, and steel wool might be one. C might work if you’re *very careful* but I’d expect you to spill more often than not.
    --
    Yay, I got them all this time, if I count round 3 as a success. I would have gotten it right if I could ask how to grade C’s “yes in theory but you’ll probably spill”, so I’m counting it.
