Hello Again Luke. When I used to work for the state highway department, I had two coworkers who used to drive a vehicle just like yours from outside Richmond to between Georgetown and Lexington every day until it gave up the ghost. I think that just about every one of those GEO/Chevrolet vehicles had cracked windshields that I had seen. Hopefully the engine in yours didn’t get too damaged from all of the heat from the hose situation. Those spark plugs can be “Doctored” to make them fire by removing the plug and taking a small file and filing the tip of the electrode to make it fire again. I have also held the plug wire away from the plug but yet close enough where it will still fire which causes the spark to be much hotter which will also sometimes make the spark plug come back to life. Seeing the roads that you were traveling brought back old memories of some of the roads that I used to drive in route to broken down equipment. It often took longer to get to the broken down equipment than it did to make the actual repairs. Our closest county to you would have probably been Montgomery County I think.
Yeah, I'm hoping it didn't hurt it. I'll have to do a compression check to make sure. Come to think of it most of the ones I have seen have had a cracked windshield too. Must be a badly braced window frame or something. These roads are something else around here. If I'm riding in the back seat on these roads I end up sick by the time we get to where we are going lol.
I worked in KYTC Equipment in District 7 in which we had 12 counties that we maintained equipment for. Although we had Lexington in our district which speaks for itself, We also had some pretty rural counties. For all of us at the equipment garage, we had to know how to at least get to the maintenance garage of each of our counties and would be escorted out to wherever the equipment was to be required or the project area if we didn’t already know the area. For Me, I always enjoyed getting to see different areas especially this time of the year with the fall colors really starting to show. We were usually very busy working on snow and ice equipment both brand new and older stuff that was getting mounted on different trucks.
That was an awesome find for the channel!! Sure glad you made it home after we dropped you off 😂! Looks like you had a cool adventure that’s what it’s all about!!!
Wow, that's some extensive patina there. Apparently it was literally rode hard and put away wet. Many times. I have heard that these are pretty good little rigs, for what they are. They aren't a Rubicon, obviously, but that one looks like it might make a fun little rig for fooling around. If it were mine, I'd put on new spark plug wires, install new plugs, and replace all the heater hoses since they're probably all the same age and condition. Heater hose isn't expensive, and it would be better than being stranded somewhere if another hose lets go. I won't ask how much you paid, but hopefully there were lots less zeroes in the price than there are holes in that body. Thanks for taking us along on your adventure getting it home. All the bet to you, Luke.
Thank you, yeah I got it for more or less scrap price. It has some new hoses in its future for sure. I'm planning on tuning it up and seeing how good the engine really is. I just hope the overheating didn't hurt it.
Great find Luke! But I hope you got it for free or very low cost. Glad you did the research to find out about #4 being tdc for timing. Ya, it's was easy to see what they did during timing it. Honest mistake I guess. Glad you made it home before time to go back to work, lol.
Yeah, it was basically for scrap price or less. I figure for that I can't go wrong. I was getting a little concerned for a bit that's why I stopped filming and focused on getting home lol.
Nice find - and lucky that it was pretty easy to get it running. Years ago, the timing belt on a Pontiac 1000 i owned broke and that led to bent valves and a junked car. I bet you'll have a lot of fun with this vehicle.
It seems like it will be pretty capable off road. Should be fun to play around with. That was one of the first things I researched for this engine. Weather it had an interference engine or not. If it would have I probably wouldn't have took it.
Hey Luke! Love the video! I have owned probably a dozen trackers and Suzuki sidekicks. Same vehicle same engine all of mine have been the 16 valve 1.1.6I currently have 119 97 Suzuki sidekick 4 door it's a 5 speed just like that 1 it's just not 4 wheel drive. Anyway I love the cars but I can tell you this Parts are often hard to come by even at a boneyard and I would definitely be able to point you to the places to locate them if you need them and I'm might even have some spares that I obtained And maybe able to part with. I definitely wanna see more on this adventure And I learned a lot from your video and I knew a lot of exactly what was going on and what you were doing and I was just kind of laughing because I know another mechanical stuff to be dangerous and that's about as far as it goes!
As far as driving goes, it surprised me how nimble it feels. I thought it would feel really top heavy, but it handles great! Yeah I've heard that about parts, Might have to have help with that some day lol. I have a few things in mind for it. Should be kind of fun to play around with.
as its four stroke, if you would have trurned the crank one more revolution, the marks would have linned up i think. but the belt was loose though. you should always turn the motor over two revolutions by hand when doing anything with a timming belt
@jaysonburns8512 yes that is definitely what I'm doing now. I just didnt have one with me at the time. I should have looked at that hose more carefully and I would have known it was swelled like that.
@ManuelLuisis I went by the mark on the crankshaft flywheel lined up with the 0 timing mark, and got the #4 plug wire close to where the rotor was pointing.

Yeah, thanks for taking me up there. It was an adventure, a little stressful, but it was fun.
Kool find, extra value for the weight reduction body with extra ventilation. 👍🏻
Yes indeed! I've got it running great now, just have to get time to do an update on it.

Very smart!!
That vehicle could be a supporting cast member in Jar Wars II.
Could be!
My car also has the ventilation add on 😂...dealer was out of stock on the tomato box battery cover though
Yeah those battery covers were a limited run. Very rare.

@paulmoso2375 thanks for the tip. That sounds correct.
Great Video, But You Are A "Madman MacGyver Genius" Mechanic!!😂
lol thank you!
Next time, I would just replace the hose and use 2 new worm clamps
@jaysonburns8512 yes that is definitely what I'm doing now. I just didnt have one with me at the time. I should have looked at that hose more carefully and I would have known it was swelled like that.
Good video I enjoyed watching
Buy two new doors, give it a tune up, make it a beater daily driver
It would make a good one.
How did you know that the car was a top dead center
@ManuelLuisis I went by the mark on the crankshaft flywheel lined up with the 0 timing mark, and got the #4 plug wire close to where the rotor was pointing.
Fix it up and put it back on the road
As long as the title isn't a problem. I'm going to try to do that.
