    I was Peter’s Course Officer at the School of Infantry, Gwelo, on Inf 25/23. I had the privilege of watching a young man turn into a fine Infantry Platoon Commander, and a good man. So much crammed into so short a time. Great interview and just delighted to have played a modest part of his remarkable journey. Pat

    The one thing I have picked up on this channel is how bad is spoken about the South African Defense Force. It looks and sound that Rhodesia trained the South Africans how to fight a war. Were South Africans that incompetent in fighting, especially the national service men?

    • @glendodds3824
      @glendodds3824 Год назад +1

      A lot of what is said about South Africa has to be taken with a pinch of salt. Sadly, some Rhodesians like to score points at South Africa's expense. Moreover, some Rhodesians give the impression (either in books or on social media) that Rhodesians had to travel to South Africa to see racial discrimination when racial discrimination was in fact also deeply entrenched in Rhodesia.

    • @hennies9509
      @hennies9509 Год назад

      @@glendodds3824 I noticed that and that is really below the belt. The hospitals, clinics and free medical we provided in the 70's surpassed the American Health Care System, okay today it is not so anymore, very sad. One thing that irks me is that we supplied just about everything to keep them going during the war time but we only get mentioned when we had to scale down due to international pressure and then we still continued. Fuel, ammunition, medicine was send even our boys to fight. We gave them intel on the traitors and much more. Maybe I am just feeling a bit off due the pain, the big C my friend. I still like this channel a lot. The guys had guts but SA ruled.

    • @peterbaxter5750
      @peterbaxter5750 Год назад

      @hennieswart. No. The SADF was a very effective fighting force. 3,000 soldiers kept 50,000 Cuban and 50,000 FAPLA troops engaged in Southern Angola in 1987/88. The system was a National Service one, so, many of them did not want to be there. Then you had the old English/ Afrikaans issue too. But it was a very effective army.
