E. coli Study Extended, Making Progress

  • Researchers at 18 different institutions are continuing a major study aimed at finding ways to identify and mitigate a deadly strain of E. coli in beef. The USDA-sponsored study began in 2012 and has been extended for at least a year. So far, researchers say they're getting better at identifying the differences between harmless E. coli and the dangerous Shiga toxin-producing kind that can cause illness and death.
