    One of my cousin's high school football coaches served and when I found out he'd served I thanked him for serving and his immediate response was "you know, I really appreciate that. You have no idea how many people would just as soon call me a baby killer." I think that's really sad, like ok you disagreed with our reasons for going to war in Iraq but that doesn't change the fact that, at that time and even today, in the US we don't have a draft, meaning that you cannot be made to enter the military and that everyone who serves today or served in that time period did so of their own volition, not because they were drafted. It takes a special kind of person to, when evil shows itself, go "you know what, I don't have to do this, but I'm going to enlist, get the skills, and fight that evil wherever it may be." It's just sad how little respect police and military get.

    14:29 if I recall correctly; once spices became widely available to the British populace the nobility, being the og hipsters, decided they didn’t want to use spice now that the peasants had access to them. The nobility then proceeded to popularize traditionally “peasant” food; the common public then, proceeded to mimic the nobility.

Like cities in general suck especially if you don't have the money to live in the nice part of them. As far as the meth dealer sampling their own product that's unfortunately gonna be a thing pretty much everywhere at this point, like some areas are more heroin based like Seattle but meth is so incredibly common now

    47:00 Yes I would have loved to serve with him, and did serve with men alot like Jake in my time, and I as well had a little “Jake” attitude in me too though not enough I didn’t follow orders or regulations, but did “bend” the rules a bit.
    Jake is an absolute Legend at Fort Sill in Oklahoma (the State Jake was born in), I’m Army Cold War era, was both 11B (infantry) and 15D (Lance Missile Crewman/MLRS Sergeant), went through Basic Training and PDS (permanent duty station) at Ft. Sill. Never knew that one of my all time favorite movies “The Dirty Dozen” was about Jake and his men.
    Also would like to mention that as much as you (Kip) and others think the Marines and Navy Seabees are awesome (and they are don’t get me wrong), but the Army was who did the largest Amphibious Landing/Assault in history, D-Day. As well the Army has our version of Seabees, called the Army Corps of Engineers. The 101st Airborne (Army), the 82nd Airborne (Army), Rangers (Army), Pathfinders (Army), Green Berets (Army), 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta, aka Delta Force (Army), The “Big Red One” the 1st Infantry Division (Army), so we’re kinda Legendary ourselves 😉😏

    A few things not mentioned in the video about the bridge battle:
    The reason the bridge got bombed by his own side was because the officer who was tasked with relaying messages back to base was KIA'ed during the drop. There was literally no way for communications to be established, so the US just assumed the bridge had fallen into enemy hands and had it bombed.
    Jake McNasty held the bridge while blind. During the bombing and mortar fire from the enemy, there was a blast that went off too close to him and Jake was temporarily blinded from it. This is also where he gets his mangled ear from IIRC. He still held his position and gave the men orders despite this. It makes his victory even more impressive. Man's was literally blinded and went "nah I'm still combat effective"
    The 700 Germans weren't actually Germans. They were Ukrainian conscripts, who's country fell to the Reich. The German officer was German, but the troops under his command were Ukrainian.
    Another thing not mentioned in this video: One of the other Filthy 13 who was also in the plane that blew up as Jake bailed out survived and eventually linked up with some Rangers deep in Nazi occupied territory. That soldier would singlehandedly trailblaze through enemy territory, establish safe routes, and play a pivotal part in the Rangers all getting out alive. Inspiring training that is taught to this day in Batt.

    • @bettyrose959
      @bettyrose959 Месяц назад

      Actually communications was only half of it. They blew the bridge because the Germans were in an all out retreat at that point. It was the reason that particular bridge was singled out for his original mission. It was a crucial bridge for troop movement, and was still standing. It was days later and no communication, they couldn't radio Jake to blow it. That bridge needed to go, at that point. Also was the reason Jake continued on, his orders came from far above that Coronel.

    It's not that hard to get onto a military base as long as you have a friend in the military or is a veteran with proper ID. You also might get turned away from the front gate if you have a passport from a country we tend to have political disagreements with like, say, China (in one case, one of my friends couldn't get on base and he had a Hong Kong passport). The only thing is that whoever is bringing you on base is gonna be "escorting" you almost everywhere you go, and you are limited as to where you can go. Training areas such as ranges are generally off limits and stuff like that. Either way, the only places you are gonna be going anyway is the PX/shoppette cuz that's where the fast food/junk food is (and usually its where you can get stuff that you don't need that boots tend to buy such as; Mechanix gloves, glow belts, knives, Grunt Style shirts, etc). Sometimes there are events that open the base up to the public like air shows. My old base on Okinawa had a "friendship festival" which I promptly ignored to go get my haircut and a sandwich at the PX before going back to the barracks.

    And yeah. They say the 82nd hasn’t changed at all, that’s cute my former unit units the record for most deployments. , most time deployed. Most combat hours seen. Most maintenance done. Least amount of accidents and misshaps. Also the highest dui and and divorce rate. And NC state troopers at mando fun days, with the strongest drunk goggles they had, well over 95% of us could still pass the driving test with golf carts, after we been drinking, with those goggles on. Their captain looked at us and said I don’t want to know, my response at 23, how many times you been to Iraq and Afghanistan and had fiancées and a wife leave you? He didn’t answer. Cause none, we deployed every year for 6-7 months. Every single year, and tons of training also. Inbetween training. And deployments, and leave, the record for
    Lowest time spent in NC…where I was stationed was 33 days out of 365. Basically 10-11 months a year I was gone overseas, or in NTC and or Yuma, CO for training, though fleet week in NYC was fun and great, can’t remember 95% of it. But was great, haha.

    8:10 fun thing as a civilian (at least in germany) you don't have to salute to anyone. Not even to generals. I think ot has something to do with it being a military greeting and you as a civilian not knowing the "correct" way to do it, but i'm not sure. I just know that i don't have to salute when i'm in a military base (i'm currently doing customer service work in a military base)

    • @KipReacts
      @KipReacts 8 месяцев назад

      As I understand it, in the US a civilian isn't required to salute. It may come across as strange if you're visiting a base or something and you do salute. But, I could be wrong.

    And ahh yes. A man after my own heart, so sad Jake wasn’t a Marine. He’d fit in 1000%. I definitely showed many of those same qualities, but calling our officers by nickname or call sign was normal. But yeah. On time/sober depending on when and what for, yeah, no. All the paper work and dumb shit. No, not good at that, nor did I care. Except for job related paperwork. And stuff for training new guys. But for me personally, I have zero fucks. I was there to do my job, and I did it very, very well. Drinking and fighting/being late at times, for things that didn’t matter. Oh they tried busting me down multiple times. Never happened. Worst I got was 30 days restriction and docking of pay, didnt care, didn’t join to make money. Had no illusions about that. USMC. Lowest paid branch of all. The only ones that could hope to be better than me. Was ones who did it for 12 yrs before me, even then. I smoked 99% of them. I’m naturally good at what I choose to enlist for, MOS wise. After my second signing and joining before I was 18, haha, doe to injuries, not my fault. That accident that shoulda killed me. Almost did, when I was 17 and already signed months before, is when I got my fuck it attitude, o did some good. Saved my best friend. Also had to watch his gf and my friend burn to death in a car accident. The floor boards crumpled around her legs, I couldn’t get her out. Like my best friend, I tried. And suffered even more lung damage and light burns as a result, before I was dragged away by bystanders that showed up and finally stopped. I still struggle with issues cause of that damn accident. Ex’s have asked well, what more could you have done, my response is always. Died trying. Well at 17x no matter how much adrenaline you got going. When one lung is fully collapsed. The other punctured and only 1/3 left working. Over a liter of blood lost, all your ribs broken. Abs all separated/torn. Spleen and small, large intestines torn, organs not in the right place after the impact, I can’t fight off 2-3 adult men, and bend steel to save someone, sadly, not was I given the choice to try that. Also sadly. That was going on 19 years ago, and the only thing that truly haunts me. All my ex’s and others when I my answer to what I coulda done different, “die trying” is pure shock, they don’t know what to do or say, not the right mindset. All 3 of us in the DEP for the USMC, me and him still got in, later than we wanted. But we did, and served.
