    I notice that luxury seating doesn't have those terrible headrests that shove a smaller traveler's head forward painfully.
    I traveled Air New Zealand, LAX to AKL and because my head came to just above the base of the headrest, I spent nearly 12 hours with my chin shoved nearly to my chest. It was extremely painful and on the way back I had to beg a flight attendant for 2 pillows so I could put them behind my back to push me out of reach of the torturous headrest. I almost didn't get it for safety reasons.
    I don't see why only those able or willing to pay more should have the luxury of not having their head shoved onto their chest for the duration of the flight.
    Here's some feedback, Air NZ: How about you make those headrests height-adjustable, or removeable? Not everyone is a Kiwi giant.

    My initial thoughts were why o why did they keep the dreadful reverse herringbone design in business class. However, I can now see the angle of the seats are way way less raked away from the window. Only slightly raked now, so you can still look out the window, which is hard to do now without hurting your neck!. And on reflection, I think I actually prefer this new light and spacious looking design for privacy reasons, over the seats angled TO the window. In seats facing to the window, anyone can be standing behind you observing you working on your laptop, reading a book, watching a movie, surfing the net. Creepy. Also I think its quite rude to have your back to the crew, other passengers. Perhaps that's just a cultural thing just like its rude to point your feet at others (a problem with the current design). This new design seems to mitigate these concerns and strike a balance between the dark claustrophobia of the likes of the Qsuite etc and the sheer lack of privacy on some aircraft. That all said, I think the biggest advances are down the back and that's groundbreaking for ultra longhaul flights.

    Please ask Jacinta our protest to put b747 back in production

    • @rp7784
      @rp7784 Год назад

      It's Jacinda not Jacinta, she's the Prime Minister.
      And can I ask you a question, what the hell can Jacinda do to bring back the production of the B747 and why would she want to do it if she could.

    • @rp7784
      @rp7784 Год назад

      @DoDa Z What's wrong with Green Technology, that doesn't really have much to do with the decline of the 747.
      In terms of fuel efficiency well that's an extremely important factor.
      The newer Aircrafts allow Airlines to carry nearly the same amount of passengers, with less fuel, less weight (due to having only 2 engines and not 4) and therefore with less costs while improving speed, decreasing drag and improving performance efficiency and fuel efficiency and therefore having less impact on the environment while saving on costs.
      No doubt there are people who love the 747 but no Airline is going to want to fly them, simply because they have become uneconomical.
      With the Technology we have today a 787 all though half the size of a 747 it can still fly the same distance with less power and fuel and far more savings.

    • @rp7784
      @rp7784 Год назад

      @DoDa Zmmm come to think of it I guess it depends how you see, Technology contributed to the advancements of the aviation industry, but going green was one of the reasons behind the 747 decline.
      Like I said, why keep on operating large and expensive hunks of metal when you can pretty much get the same results for less input, Efficiency. 747 and even A380 are just not economical anymore.

    • @rp7784
      @rp7784 Год назад

      @DoDa Z I guess it does but many Airlines seem to have the same business model, hence why Boeing has discontinued manufacturing of 747s due to plummeting demand.
      Why? Industries innovate and progress, and companies follow suit if the next gen product is better, it's how industries and economies advance.

    • @rp7784
      @rp7784 Год назад

      @DoDa Z But it is better because like I said many times the 787s are more efficient, they cost less to operate, they save fuel and are much more Technologically advanced in structure material, computer technology, engines etc.

  • @chrismckellar9350
    @chrismckellar9350 Год назад +1

    At least the airline is catching up to the real world world with premium cabin design for both Premium Economy and Business Premier. Why is Air NZ still using inward facing herringbone seating for Business Premier?. Little mentioned about the seating from Economy Class other they will be using 'slim' seats being used on the A320neo/A321neo fleets with more padding. Are Economy seats on the B787's still going to have 78cm/31inch seat pitch and what will be the recline?

    • @rp7784
      @rp7784 Год назад

      One of the reasons Air NZ retained Herringbone was because of consistency in seating, due to the design it ensures every passenger gets an equal experience in seating.
      Such an objective can be achieved in Reverse Herringbone but another reason why Air NZ decided to stay conventional was because many people can feel claustrophobic with Reverse. Depending on the angle of the seat Herringbone can achieve a higher feel of space and openness than Reverse and judging by the design from Air NZ that was definitely a goal, ease of aisle to seat access and vice versa must have been another goal.
      In some aspects Privacy is pretty damn good with this design, seeing as your head will be away from the aisle and the standard business premiere seat can deploy the sliding panel for more privacy It may give a feel of equal privacy to that of an exposed Reverse Herringbone.
      The last argument against the Herringbone would be the increased difficulty for looking out the window but studies and tests show that passengers only look out the window during take off, landing and 2 percent of the time during a flight so That feature is of little benefit or consequence in Herringbone or Reverse.
      All seat pitch and width measurements will remain the same, some may increase.

      @@rp7784 - I am not sure to take your comment seriously or not. unless it is an 'official' response from an Air NZ employee.
      One of the biggest complaints by most Air NZ Business Premier customers and other business class or premium customers they hate the current the configuration which has been dubbed 'coffin' class.
      The new Business Premier hard product is a 1000% improvement and has easier access to aisle for window seat passengers which some customers like but I prefer reverse herringbone for window seats.
      So will be the the 'new' seat pitch and seat width for standard economy seats?

      The current configuration I can understand, but it's hard to judge this kind of Herringbone design especially when there are very few airlines with layouts like this.
      This is very different, much more roomy and a little more private, I guess time will tell how people feel but from analysing the designs and from what the design team has stated Im kinda liking this design.
      Standard Economy measurements are the same.
      Economy stretch seat pitch will increase to 34-35 inches with the same seat width.
      Premium Economy same measurements.
      Tv screen measurements in all classes will increase.

      @@rp7784 - There is a lot of airlines using both herringbone and reversed herringbone seat configuration for Business and First Class. Air NZ has caught with the rest of the other airlines in Business class hard product design and layout. What is interesting with the Business Class seats that Air NZ will be the first to use 'zero' gravity effect padding that the Business Class seats will have designed for better sleep on ultra long haul non stop flights.
      Beside the additional 2 B7879s and B787-10's will be delivered with the new cabin design, the B787-9 'V2' being the last 4 delivered have more premium seating for long to ultra long hauls compared to the the original 10, will be upgraded first followed by the remaining older 10 B787-9's.
      Currently, Economy Class seat pitch on the B787-9's are between 31 - 33” (78 - 83cm).

Stacking horizontally with people above and below and across is entirely different. You're seeing their entire body stretched out boxing you in plus when people lie down to sleep they snore and toss and turn and take off their shoes it's just so much more disgusting to think about being stuck in that configuration, looking across a foot and a half and seeing three people stacked up breathing ugh.
