I had forgotten who moving it was to see this performance of Fragile in the context of Sept. 11. The line, "if blood would flow, if flex and steel were one..." gave me chills. Beautiful song, beautiful man. Namaste.
This is the only thing that got me through the loss of 70 of my husbands colleagues and the 3 firefighters was this song. Originally Sting wrote it when John Lennon was killed. How fitting to resurrect it on 9/11.
I can't even imagine how surreal it must have been for him to perform that song on 9-11 given the lyrics. This is an incredible song and it must have even more meaning to him now than it did before.
I too am a professional musician/songwriter and like Sting from being young to mature so has the subject matter and meaning of my songs. We're all human beings, that's what this song is saying, no matter what atrocious, sinister act you're caught up in it's all a huge sin and abomination. We as human beings need to love, and if we can't love at least respect one another. We can agree to disagree and can confrontate with no violence. At the end of the day there is still peace. OMG! come that day.
The final look of his face after he finishes the song...just unbelievable. It displays the painful helplessness of the artist who can do nothing but capture the emotion of the moment for eternity. Magic.
