no he does not, don't kid yourself..i've been listening and watching Eric since mid-1984, he is definitely not the same anymore... age will get us eventually; i just watch him perform in the G3 reunion tour, his arthritis is getting worse and you can tell... still love him though ❤
@@kspocketngroove3973 His arthritis? So you have access to his medical records? Of course he doesn't play like he did in his 20's...no artist does. Obviously that was an exaggeration 🙄 And what exactly is "mid 1984"? June of 1984? If so, what a noob. I saw him and Christopher Cross playing in a bar in Shreveport La before the album "Christopher Cross" was released. No one knew who either of them were, but the rest is history.
This dude is 69 years old! Props to him. That’s a phenomenal song. I remember when I was a teacher about 15 years ago I taught the kids about the best guitarrist in the world and used that song. We had a rock theme and the kids were about 5 years old… it’s cool to see after 15 years some of those kids now have bands and love music. I remember we rented the theatre and made a big rock festival and invited all parents and other classes to watch us rocking! I was the only adult on stage playing the guitar and kids had instruments they made themselves. We rehearsed for months and they recorded everything. I felt so accomplished… I wish I had that footage! Now it’s just memories
Its always just a pure joy to listen to EJ play. 70 years young and can play circles around today's players. I only hope that more young people look at their guitar roots and look to Eric Johnson's clean and crisp style.
Still smokes after all these years! And for all saying "sad" or "look how many mistakes he's making" I'll remind you that you won't even be able to make it down the stairs when you're almost 70, nevermind shredding a guitar this well, warts and all. Honestly, dry up and blow away.
Agreed ....99 percent would not be even holding a guitar and playing a chord progression let alone play Cliffs of Dover or Trademark...Thats why i have immense respect for people like Eric or Gilmore or A. Young or the Maiden trio or the likes in their genres who still perform to their best of the abilities so that many people can have their first show of their fav artist ...age catches up these guys are legends who healed us all with music. If Eric even playes Happy birthday to you i would pay and see it.
Great to see Roscoe Beck on bass. Saw him early 90's at Nakano Sun Plaza in Tokyo with Robben Ford, and he damn near stole the show. Robben was gracious enough to give him space, and let him solo at length, and he brought the house down.
I actually have a theory on this matter. Johnson, Satch, Vai, and Petrucci are all aliens. See, they were just boring open mic guitar players on their home planet, so they decided to come to earth, and make us little humans worship them. Lol! 😂😂😂😂😂
Eric's a badass! They all are! Great musicians... It's like colors flooding music they're so good at what they do! Listen watch Jesus I love this! He say Roscoe on bass?
It’s sad watching this great guitarist decline. He may have made a mistake or two on this live performance in his 20’s but he’s making many in this one.
What's sad is you expecting someone to play something note for note 100% the exact same way for 30 years and not be bored to death. He hasn't fucked up once in the entire video. He's ALWAYS improved little licks here and there like any guitarist who's worth a shit. If I went to see this man and it sounded exactly like the album I'd be upset. I hear there's a Tupac hologram tour or some shit you might enjoy. Or motley Crue. I think both of those are played to a backing track. Just close your eyes and it's perfect...
@@barryjones3915 I get it, he’s noodling/ improvising, but if you can’t hear the mistakes you’re tone deaf. I love Eric, it’s just sad to see the decline, akin to watching my own parents decline.
@@ctusserAgree 100%. God forbid you have a different opinion. Honestly like you said, just a great player getting older. There’s just gonna be some things with age you lose. He’s still a great player. Nobody said he wasn’t. But you are correct. If you can’t hear certain things like missed chords, notes, tempo you’re in denial or deaf. Relax people.
@@Killerklownsfromouterspace it’s more of a perspective thing than being ‘in denial to “Eric’s decline”’. Personally I think it’s more about the joy of coming together through music through all the years. Despite everything else going on in the world and in our lives, we all cheer to the sound of cliffs of Dover when Eric goes into the intro cue 🎸🎶 and most of us can watch it at home lol
He is the embodiment of "I bought the whole guitar so I will use the whole guitar"
Ja😂
Metaleros: pues yo puedo hacerlo solo en la 6ta cuerda😡
😂
😂😂😂
He is an eficiando, but that IS NOT cliffs of dover
Sometimes less is more. That intro was painful
He plays like he's still in his 20's, aging like a fine wine! Love you EJ truly an inspiration. Long live! ❤🎸🙏🏻

Eric is a genius.. A magician ❤
7:36 i love how this riff has evolved trough the years
Country ❤
I'm still as impressed with his performance of this song as when I saw him play it on Austin city limits many years ago!
Watching all of these artists age through my life is daunting. Excellent sound on this one though! Thanks!
A true tone chaser and wonderful guitarist.
6:27 It's about time, Eric. Love ya!
6:27 justo cuando creia q la cancion no podia ser mejor y este hombre me vuelve a sorprender 👏👏👏👏
Somehow his playing gets more open, spontaneous, and adventuresome with every passing year
Eric Johnson is astounding
Hard to believe all of these years have passed. I remember seeing him play over 40 years ago. He is just as good now as he was then.
Sounds great, can't wait to see him in Seattle.
One of the best
❤ plays guitar like a piano he even said so ❤ love this song so upbeat.
The best noodler EVER!
Thank you for sharing and posting this! Very much appreciated! Cheers from Idaho 👍
Lovely footage and audio. Thanks for sharing cousin. ❤

Preciosura de canción!
what the crowd doesn't know is that he played the whole song in reverse before the band even joined in..
Did you tab it out player?

dude Eric Johnson must've made a deal with the devil cause that level of skill is inhuman
For countless years and decades in succession, there has been a continuous practice of playing the guitar.

yep, that's him : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roscoe_Beck
👍🏻
When he warms up for the main theme he sounds like a guy trying out a guitar at guitar center.
He made a deal with God
16th note sextuplets extravaganza !
Who is his drummer?
this intro gets worse and worse the more times he plays it. the early 90s versions were magical.
Elegant gracious incredible tasteful precision and beautiful
He's amazing... but his chops were smoother and better in the 90s...
Mr. Tone: it sucked in this video.

He has a show almost everyday. I think it is natural to have fatigue and also find ways to not be bored by playing something for 30+ years.
Kind of dark and muddy sound.
rushing.
