I see that you can "Check" for an update. Is that looking for an updated MERLIN version or is it pulling from stock ASUS firmware updates? Just wanna be sure I don't have to reset to stock and then redownload a newer Merlin update and redo this process all the time.
Hi. I have watched all your videos and am currently still using the GT-AX11000 as my main router and another one of them as a AiMesh node. Just curious, are you still using this router as well or have you upgraded to something else? If so, what did you upgrade to?
Still using the GT-AX11000, was going to upgrade to the AXE-11000 but did not make sense for me cost wise as have no WiFi 6E devices. Also waiting for the beast of AXE-16000 hopefully out in a few months.
Thanks for the reply. I am pretty happy overall with the AX11000, but I'm always looking as we L. Did you end up sticking with Merlin firmware or roll back to stock?
@@EclipseReviews I'm debating this right now only thing is I'm getting 1gigabit Internet service installed and I don't have any asus router. Trying to figure out should I go with the ax or the axe
Probably depends on your VPN provider as well as on your router specifications, running a VPN right on the router takes a bit of resources and can affect performance on old router models.
The very best would be two GT-AX11000 Routers, but in most cases this is overkill. TheRT-AX92U is still one of the best AiMesh Routers, and still receives regular firmware feature updates.
I have ordered an Asus ET8 router. I didn’t see model ET8 on the Merlin website. Did I miss something? If I don’t use the factory firmware do I just provide the path to the Merlin website download to use it?
Need your honest recommendation on asus rt-ax88u vs tp-link archer ax11000.... which one would you purchase and why? there are nuances and you can find features that one has over the others, but this seems like a difficult choice. Assume that bot are the same retail price of $299.99 USD.
Assuming both are the same price I would buy the Archer AX11000, reason being is this router will last longer as more devices are added around the house. It seems these days everything is wifi enabled, also this router supports the 2.5Gb ethernet port to help with getting the best speeds. Having the third 5Ghz band helps when you have newer devices which support 80/160Mhz so you can get the best speed from them, with out older devices slowing them down. I hope this help.
I believe this would not work with your router so would not try and install it, you can try asking in this forum www.snbforums.com/forums/asuswrt-merlin.42/
I have a GT-AX6000 and the merlin package came with these files... GT-AX6000_388.2_0_nand_squashfs.pkgtb, GT-AX6000_388.2_0_rog_nand_squashfs.pkgtb, and sha256sum.sha256. I have no idea what to use.
The Asus manual does not confirm anything but the theoretical hard limit for any modem or router for wifi clients is 255 , so as there is no setting for the Asus , then that is the maximum limit but would not recommend to have 255 clients.
Main purpose is you can install third party add-ons / software on to the router using the builtin AMTM / Entware app repositories. Other things is you can customise the router more, but if you are not interested in these and the router is working like you want then I would see no need to change.
If you are having issues then please go to the Wireless Menu and then 'Professional' tab here you can change the options. Just make a note of what you change so if it does not work then you change back. Perhaps first check the channel number and fix this to a channel like 1 on the 2.4Ghz.
@@EclipseReviews 60 / 5.000 Resultados de traducción and can you upload the firmware of the rt-ac5300 to the rt-gt5300? the problem I have is that the 2.4 ghz band does not give me internet
Performance has been good, to be honest I have not seen any improvements in speed but the firmware is stable and I have been running other add-ons and performance has not slowed.
Also the thing to focus on more is the quality of your network and not so much the speed. Even networks that have gig speeds can suffer from poor quality (bottlenecks) etc. Data packets can only go as fast as the packet in front of it. So the thing to do is make sure that your router is sending packets efficiently so your devices receive the data in the order they are supposed to. Cake most likely will slow your network some but it will make sure there are no bottlenecks in your network allowing clients to stream, game and upload efficiently.
@@EclipseReviews I would recommend not using the automatic setting for whichever QOS you decide to use. Use the manual setting instead. I generally scale back my speed parameters anywhere from 5% to 15% of whatever my Speedtest results are (for both upload and download). That gives me the best results for my network in my trial and error tests.
Will have to try this , thanks again for the video

I wonder if there is a firmware upgrade for ROG Rapture GT-AC5300, thank you. I only see RT-AC 5300
How's the performance while on a VPN connection? I've been getting 0.51% packet loss while connected to ExpressVPN using OpenVPN UDP.

It may do if you have multiple people using the internet at the same time as the QOS (Cake) is better than stock firmware.
