    For non-Se-doms, the effect Se has on us is telling. I'm a male INFP (Se is not in our conscious functions) but my girlfriend is an INTJ (Se being her inferior conscious function). We are both often clumsy, but how it manifests is interesting. With me, if an Se event happens, like I trip over something, or worse, my computer acts up, it is annoying but I move on quickly. Se is not a conscious function so it doesn't typically cause me suffering. But with her, because Se is conscious, it affects her much more. If she trips, she registers it and swears. If her computer acts up, especially if it pulls her out of her future goals, she has a complete meltdown, like her world collapses if she cannot fix whatever it is that is holding her back from working on this project. My Ne will quickly find another option, a work around, but with her, she is literally stuck, and her Ni cannot function until this Se problem is resolved. I love her Ni brilliance, which I lack, but it is interesting how little things (well, what I see are little things) can trip her up.

    11:18 INFP here and I can relate. Just this morning me and my INFJ friend were in the backseat of a minivan riding around and she said she was getting seasick because of the way the driver was driving and the car was moving back and forth... and I hadn't noticed AT ALL until she said something and suddenly I became slightly dizzy and felt off.

      I think it depends on whether or not you want the actual sensory intensity or if you want the possibilities that slawn from a sensation. If thebformer, Se, but if the latter, Ne.

      @@9KariKiri6 My working hypothesis is there's a bias to do with class and access to stuff when it comes to how people talk about Se-doms and variety. Like rich kids are probably going to travel more in general, no matter what type, but more so the ExxP types. Whereas if you are in that range where your environment is relatively stable, but you also cannot really afford to travel, naturally you're going to be more apt to stay where you are. Same thing with stuff like clothing and food, it costs money and like if you try something to eat that's new and it sucks, you may not be able to afford to eat something else right away.
      Anyway, I relate with a lot of what you say about variety.

    This video is making me reconsider being ISFP over INFP. I was always confused between INFP and ISFP, still not sure.
    I'm FI dom for sure, caring a lot about my inner world and feelings and my identity and values. I also come off IxFP in every test. But I thought I was INFP for a long time, cause I'm usually dreamy and fashinated by abstract stuff and fantasy and art.
    That could be both... but I think many people are confused by this:
    The main thing is that I don't perceive myself as physically adept at all. I feel very awkward and not so connected with my body, physical activities and manual and mechanics. We always think that a high Se user would be like that, so I say ok I'm not.
    What I learn tho, is that ISFP Se is more subordinated to Fi, and usually linked to art or creativity... so if an ISFP really likes something, he will be proficient and use his Se with that. I love music and photography and I'm really good at playing and basically anything about music and video/photography and it comes natural to me. If I have to fix something Im not nearly as practical.
    And yes I see myself as clumsy and distracted but I'm also really aware of the enviroment and the sensory details...even if I'm in my inner thoughts and zoning out I'm still usually aware of what happens around me, maybe someone talking, a noise, or something I see... it can even distract me from my internal thought process.
    I'm also quite interested in esthetic and expressing identity through appearance etc and I dont see that as very INFP.
    Still, at the same time, I resonate a lot with Ne definitions. I also like symbolism and building a meaning over things... but I also struggle thinking about future plans and working to realize my vision.
    And I'm not really that type that jumps into action really quick.
    Could be because of looping?
    I also wonder the difference between Fi-Si and Fi-Ni loop.
    I think ISFP vs INFP is one of the hardest pair to distinguish.
    Sorry for the long and selfcentered comment but I think maybe others would relate to these doubts.

      Ahhh did you STEAL my mind or something? Because I 100% am having the same struggle with these 2 types for all the same reasons you listed. Something I learned that I think is worth mentioning here is something regarding intuition and daydreaming. Daydreaming and having an active “inner world” aren’t signs of being an N type as much as they are signs of introversion. Anyone who’s dominant cognitive function is an introverted one (i.e. Ixxx types) will be more prone to spending time in their head entertaining their ideas/thoughts/daydreams. This does kinda make it more confusing to differentiate between INFP and ISFP when considering this we realize that BOTH of these will be people who have emotional fantasies and daydreams due to their dominant Fi. However, the single most helpful thing that I heard that showed me that I’m most likely an INFP (even though I’m still not 100% sure of it) is the question of where these 2 types’ energy comes from. Being an Ne user, INFPs will place higher value on abstract ideas and concepts when interacting with the world. They get their “energy” from the ideas and possibilities they extrapolate from their experiences. it’s not so much the actual experience in its raw concrete form, but the entertainment of ideas and abstractions that the experience fuels. ISFPs, on the other hand, thanks to Se their “energy” comes from ACTUALLY DOING things, and the pure realism of their physical concrete experiences and NOT so much the abstract interpretations and ideas that they generate from the experience. Rather, they enjoy the present moment purely for what it is. Of course, both types can experience both sides to a certain degree, it’s about which one you naturally tend towards and which one defines your life better.

    • @lawrencedreams
      @lawrencedreams 3 года назад +1

      @@micahbarker935 yeah that's a good point, Fi is a very difficult function to have cause it's always pondering your decisions.
      In my case I tend to close into myself a lot and I enjoy the abstract, but when I think about possibilies and future it's usually in a negative and pessimistic way, it really stresses me out until I have a clear path or something to do. The only thing that helps me to come out of that is actually start doing something, getting out of my head.
      Or I would always be using escapism to comfort me.
      I know stereotipically escapism is NP but I think every user (expecially Fi as u say) can like it. I think NFPs are much more able to think about future possibilites in a good way cause Ne.
      I don't, but I'm very perfectionistic about details and analysis due to Ni-Se imo. I thought I had Ne but Ive probably mistaken my strong Ni for it.

    @vm44844 5 лет назад +24

    Does this explain why Intps always feel like they are on the outside looking in. Or I suppose Infps come off so dreamy.
    Se is like a drug for Infjs really. People often seem shocked by our behavior with it, as it often comes in like a flash of lightning and then can quickly dissapear, leaving them to wonder who we really are.
    Just adding the amount of times ive been on a Fe-Se bender, made friends with just about everyone, did wild somewhat stupid things at a social situation and then quite happily retreated myself back into my Ni-Ti cave for a month or so to ruminate on life and ideas with little contact or outside activities. No wonder people think we are mysterious, its really in part inferior Se.
    I guess being an Infj is about learning to navigate between these two alternating stages with more ease and comfortability. It would remove our awkwardness, improve our social interactions to which we can create better ideas on how to help others in a wholistic, realistic and more present way.

    • @dew3968
      @dew3968 4 года назад +4

      You described it so perfectly!!! Me, as an INFJ, I also feel like, as a child, I had these "Flash of lightning" Se impulses (but, in my case, I just regretted it and felt so bad about it afterwards most of the time lol)...
      The thing is, I think Se is a gateway to our subconscious, and is deeply related to our Fi. I think we repress so much how we feel sometimes for the sake of "harmony" (Fe) or our "logical system" (Ti) that we just get to overindulge in Se to relieve it (but also, sometimes, overindulging in Se makes us ignore how we feel for the reason of being on an emotion grip of Se or bcz it's "paired" with Fe in a way that makes us just overindulge in other's company and feelings and suppress our own, temporarily...
      I also noticed that; people get so surprised by our Se... I think it's bcz they're so used to us being deep and caring about the meaning of everything that when we do something just out of sheer curiosity, like, just for randomly liking how it "feels"/how the experience is, they just get paranoid thinking "it must mean something, it always does" lol
      Just like when we post music... I'm used to posting meaningful songs, when I post something just cuz I liked the meaning, but just for the experience of discovering/listening to it, people just get paranoid thinking I'm trying to communicate something with it xD
      And I think that's kinda nice, to be unpredictable sometimez...

    I'm an ENFP and I just had a thought about why I hate exercise. This was such a helpful explanation for me. I have to make physical activity meaningful. For example, when I started increasing my endurance in swimming because I wanted to surf really well. My first surfing experience was amazing and I wanted to recreate it; however, I didn't have the endurance. So I started swimming 4-5 times a week in order to do it. I never felt so amazing in my life. Thank you for helping me connect these dots!

    I'm an INFP. I thought this happened to everyone but perhaps it is people with lower Se...getting bruises/minor injuries and having no clue where they came from.
    Also, not rememerbing certain details of how something looked, like the interior (or exterior) of someone's home or landmarks on a certain route...because I guess those just aren't the details I'm taking in? My mom (ISFJ) will ask me if I remember something about somebody's house or whatnot like, "They had this (thing) in (a specific spot) and there was a (thing), right?" And I'm like, "I don't know! I didnt notice..."
    She will be surprised when I don't notice things that are so obvious to her. I feel like she takes in more physical details than I do. Or when people say, "You know the gas station on such and such a street? (a street I am familiar with, mind you) and I'm like, "oh there's a gas station? No I don't know..." 😛 I understand better now why I don't notice things like this. Or, hopefully this is the reason!

    This was a fascinating video, and I think lots of people are intrigued by Se and even jealous of high Se users. I can name a ton of ways I experiment Se blind spot, but there are two I’m curious if other INPs experience.
    Sometimes when I close my eyes or I’m completely in the dark and not moving (usually in bed) I feel my perspective or “being” shrink inside my body. It’s kinda like my eyes sink back, when they’re not being used for long enough, and my entire sense of my body in space loses connection. It’s not an emotional experience, but an internal sensation. The other is the flip side. When I drink alcohol, I find that same sense of “perspective” or “being” completely fill out my body. I’m aware of all of my body, like my skin and muscles, and I feel I can look around the room or the street I’m on and take everything in better. I tend to not feel anything involving my body in space so it’s quite pleasant and alive feeling when I get it right. But of course, it’s alcohol so it’s very easy to go wrong. Let me know what you think!

    Wow, this is all so spot on. I work closely with an ISTJ and that guy cooks his same kind of meal, same foods and eats it at the same time and the same way every day. You can set your clock by him and the whole process for what he is going to eat and how he's going to prepare it has been set the exact way he likes it and he doesn't deviate. I find it very interesting as an INTJ and am actually trying to learn from him in that way so I can optimize my own cooking (or lack thereof) to try to get myself to eat at home more consistently too, for health and financial reasons.

Around people, Tertiary Fe kicks in and smooths it over so I appear connected but there is a filter separating me from the world... when in nature, I try hard not to “wander off” internally, so I can enjoy the place where I am. Interesting take on 8th slot Se. Kind of explains why I as an ENTP have been able to befriend a lot of Se doms. I am of course the oddball of the group but we all are flexible when it comes to exploring our environment. I typically am the one to give the Se doms ideas on what we should do and they make it a reality. However there is always an insecurity that I suck with Se and they often view me as being cautious but still a willing participant.
    But the game completely changes if you bring an Si dom or an Se PoLR type around. These types are more rigid and avoidant of trying new things or having daring sensory experiences. The Se doms may view them as wimps or stragglers.
