How to Install the Fully Dressed Curved Zipper in a Vinyl Window

- Our loyal customers have been asking for a video tutorial on how to install a weather-resistant curved zipper in a clear vinyl window. We had no good technique, so we went to the drawing board and made several prototypes until we had a great solution. In this new tutorial video, we will show you how to make what we call the "Fully Dressed Curved Zipper in Vinyl Window” for your next enclosure curtain project. Not only does it help prevent water from leaking through the zipper, a problem with most curved zippers, but it also is completely dressed out in canvas and takes the curves with minimal wrinkles in the clear vinyl. After watching this video and ordering your supplies from Sailrite, you will be able to install curved zippers that function and look their best.

Been in boating for years, both salt and fresh. You and your team and the benchmark to quality and communications.
They are
Thank you for sharing this technique, , this will be a big help for us on our upcoming DIY canvas projects 😀
Thank You!! Great video. Thanks for figuring out the best method and then making such a good video with lots of tips and tricks. This will help me a lot.
I see how it would take a few prototypes to get the technique. That double edged tape makes all the difference. Good teaching
Great video and a really nice looking smiley zipper install!! I can only imagine all that you went through, to come up with this technique. Thank you so much!!
Perfect, been looking for this! Thanks for making and sharing this video
Sailrite is the BEST
Love my ULTRAFEED
Love their products and videos
Outstanding demonstration
I'm very happy to see your work....
Great video!! Would love to have a day to spend sewing with you!!
This addresses an important gap that had existed in Sailrite's syllabus. It is a BIG DEAL that you filled this gap and should give Sailrite far more of the respect they deserve.
A supplier, teaching and nurturing the trades they supply is exactly what should happen.
Kudos Eric, et al!
Great instructions and another great video. Thanks.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad you found the instructions helpful and enjoyed the video. Your support means a lot to me!
Awesome video. Love how you show every step of the way creating the project. I am interested in that worker bee now. Still getting to know my Sailrite. Loving it, but it does take some time to get used to that speed not having a worker bee. Smiles. Was planning to take my machine down south but its way to heavy to transport to the boat. And I am worried I may have to pay custom fees to bring it to the Caribbean where our boat is.
Well done!
Thanks for this good explanation!
I keep hoping I see you guys making a replacement pop up camper canvas.
thank you for all your investigation and making a video for a water resistant roll up window a.k.a. smiley. I do need some clarification if you can. It looks like this window rolls up on the outside of it and not from the inside (helm or cockpit area).
This video is Awesomeness Extreme!
Thank You
You are very welcome! It took a lot of prototypes to come up with it.
Thanks!
Thanks.
This is fantastic! It works well for enclosure panels
with curved sides also (which is what I used the technique for). I am planning a curved zipper opening in a future panel to be used as a door that will be sideways with the zipper part foreword and the stops aft. Is there a way to adapt this (or some other) technique to make that leak-proof?
Thanks for your kind comment! Not sure I understand your request regarding "zipper part forward and stops aft" can you send more info or pictures to me for evaluation? ericg@sailrite.com
Whoever came up with the name smiley face was a sadist, never had a smile on my face trying to make the bloody thing!
How would I add a screen to this?
We attempted to make one with a screen and it did not work. With a lot of prototyping im sure there is a way, but the process we used doesn't seam to allow for a screen.
Be very careful, I ended up cutting my tooth thread one time 😢 😭.
